No way. Had a Gamecube (dusty), Wii (dusty), GBA (dusty), DS Lite (now Emily's).

As much as I think the tech is amazing, me and the big N just seem to be a bad match.

I hear you, although I think the money for my GC was well spent - for Eternal Darkness, Wind Waker and Resi 4 alone!

I'm very tempted, but simply because it's shiny and new - but no question, of my 3 consoles the Wii has gathered the most dust!

I think, had there been some actual news about Sony and Microsoft's propositions, I wouldn't be giving the Wii U a second thought!

I really like the idea of the WiiU - specifically the ability to carry on playing using the gamepad.

As someone who ends up in bed early a fair few evenings because of pain, I like that I could lie and play "proper" games instead of handheld stuff.

I'd like to see the quality of the screen though, and I am certainly not paying £300 for the privilege. But it does hold a certain appeal.

One thing pissing me off though, is Nintendo really pushing the whole "if someone is watching TV you can carry on playing on the gamepad". Without addressing the fact, that actually, if you have kids it is next to useless. I can see families thinking "yeah, the kids could use this while we watch TV". BUT.....only one gamepad can be used with the machine, so unless you only have one kid, the whole thing is rendered useless. So the ability to use it while the TV is tied up, becomes not quite as useful as Nintendo would have people believe.

If I could have snagged one on Amazon when they posted them up at £199 I would have probably jumped.

Fair point actually. I have two kids but if they think they're getting there mitts on any news console I get they have another thing coming ;-)

I can't see the screen looking any better than a retina display or Vita etc! I'm not sure what the specs (resolution, display etc) but sure it can't be that bad?!

One off putting thing for me is the two display thing. Which do you look at and when etc - read this can be quite disorientating.

Indie: the WiiU gamepad screen resolution is 854 x 480 and is a 6.2 inch screen. That's pretty shit to be honest. My phone with its slightly less than 4 inch screen is the same resolution and is considered low res compared to many smartphones.

The Vita has a higher res for example. I'm not convinced that games designed to be 720/1080p are going to look that great. That's why I want to see one first. And of course, not forgetting Nintendo are cheap bastards so there is no way it will be OLED either.

One other off putting factor, is that eshop games carried over from the Wii and the emulator games won't actually play on the screen at all.

I can see me getting one at some point for the Nintendo stuff for sure, but still need to have a good mess around with one to properly judge it.

The lure of a new gadget is strong so I have a preorder in, but, to be honest, I don't really know why.

Although my 3DS gets a fair amount of use, I really don't get the whole Nintendo thing: I don't like Mario games and their ilk and have got bored with all the Zelda games I have played well before the end (the launch day Wii Zelda game is still in its wrapping). Like most of you, my Wii just gathers dust apart from my son occasionally playing Mario Kart, although he's moved on to the DS version now. Nintendo release great new hardware and then just rehash the same tired old franchises.

So far there doesn't seem to be that much third party support, apart from Ubisoft, who will make games for any new console at first, so I'm not sure there will be much to interest me.

Shame really, because the touchscreen controller shows much more potential than motion controls, which I've never really got on with either.

This.

And I think about 90% of the people looking at Wii U would feel exactly the same.

Yep...pre order madness for the Wii U is definitely being caused, in part, by the fact people like Juz like splurging money on new consoles, when we don't even need them yet ;)

But it is true of course. The initial shipments for Wii U will sell out in next to no time. But if the new Xbox and PlayStation are shown at next years E3 and are a huge improvement graphically over current gen, then Wii U will die on its arse. Especially with the hardcore.

And not forgetting the obvious, Nintendo will once again find themselves a generation behind with ports of games becoming less frequent. Devs will find themselves in the same position they are currently in, of not wanting/being able, to port games across to the Nintendo console.

Sooooo, any intentions I may have had toward buying a WiiU are now out of the window. I have been reading reports (from Nintendo themselves) that the wireless signal between the machine and Gamepad, doesn't pass through walls.

This literally means that apart from a scenario where you might need to give up the TV to the wife and sit next to her, the whole thing seems fucking useless (to me at least).

Oh and they have said voice chat is on a per game basis and not universal. When are Nintendo going to step out of the 80's and join us all?

Well, I stuck it out and got my Wii U on Friday. I don't doubt that, once the new Xbox and PS come out, the Wii U will be left to gather dust but, for now, I'm quite impressed. The tablet adds more to games than the Wii motion controls ever did, in my view, even if you only use it to play away from the TV.

Of the two games I've played so far, Zombi U has really hooked me in - it's close to being my game of the year, despite being bloody hard in places (even at "chicken" level). The tablet controller is used really well and you often have to choose to look away from the TV screen to use your inventory or remove a barrier from a door or loot a dead body and risk being taken unawares by a zombie. It makes the game bloody scary, just as a survival horror should be. The way it handles your death is really cool too. If you die, your character becomes a zombie and you are reincarnated as another character and you have to go back and kill your original one to steal back your stuff. If you die again in the meantime, the stuff is gone for good. Other cool stuff is that other players can leave messages on walls etc in the game.

Downsides of the console: the UI is very slow and there's a problem which makes it a pain to get it to connect to your network without tossing about with manual settings.

All in all, I'm glad I got the console, and I really like the tablet controller and hope devs come up with good ways to use it, like in Zombi U. This is in sharp contrast to the original Wii where, right from the off, I kept wishing for a normal controller instead of the crappy motion controls.

I have to admit I do like what I've seen of the social aspects of the machine so far. But having some games like ZombieU only be playable on he TV and not on the gamepad, diminishes part of the main selling point - namely that you can carry on playing on the gamepad if someone wants to watch TV.

Not knocking anyone who has bought one, but after watching the latest Nintendo Direct presentation today and seeing that nothing of note is now due out until March 2013 onwards, means I'm happy to wait to be honest.

If I had friends who were interested in playing things like Nintendoland, it might be another story. But the fact the only game I was interested in can't be played in bed on just the gamepad, has turned me off any chance of buying one for quite some time yet.

Lol @ Juz. I know the Wii U will old hat once the next Xbox and PS arrive, but I don't care because a) I'm enjoying the Wii U now and b) I'll buy them too!

I wonder if Juz's missus has secretly got him one for Christmas.
