(Different spin, but figured this would go here. Join in where you see fit)

In a forest that was known as man as a place never to enter, things of a magical sort went on. It was said that in this forest, nothing grew old and nothing died thanks to a single gem that resided in the center of this forest. It was said that this gem allowed the creatures of the forest to live well and never have to worry about anything. But something else would happen in this forest. Humans that entered it were taken back by what would be known as illusions. The creatures in this forest would take on a human form but with their animal features. A sight that either compelled the humans to enter more or to run off scared.

~*~

In the middle of this forest, a wolf lay about by the clear waters edge. She simply minded her own business. Tongue cleaned the fur on her paws. Pelt was shades of brown/red. A Red Wolf. Ears flicked as this femme slowly sat up and shook her fur, floofing it some as she stared at her reflection in the water. Gold eyes just blinked some as her head turned quickly, ears perked. From a bush arose, a rabbit. White fur glistened some as it made it's way towards the water.

"Evening, Mrs. Cotton." The femme spoke softly.

In this forest animals only took what they needed and all animals understood that for due to this gem the animals got along well.

"Evening, dear." The rabbit spoke before sniffing the water before drinking softly.

The wolf soon rose to her feet. Legs were slender as the rest of her fit herself well. To many, she was a rare sight. A beautiful female. Paws soon walked away as she moved deeper into the forest. The Forest of Illusions.

~*~

In a village that wasn't far from this village, a young woman was leaning against the fence. Emerald green eyes watched the forest in it's glory. Darker coloured hair was picked up in the wind some. She wore a soft smile upon her lips as she watched. Her mind wandering with the many things that may be wandering in the forest. She had been told many times that she was not to enter the forest but she had come many times to disobeying that. Her curiosity was soon going to get the better of her and she wasn't sure what she was bound to find. Her mother feared that her daughter would taken by the forest and never to return. For there were rumors that had been spread around the village to keep the children from running into the forest.

In the Forest of Illusions, there are monsters that take small children. By luring them into their depths with things that they want. Be it food or a family. Once in their grip, the forest and it's monsters will take the soul of the child and that child will forever walk restlessly through the forest. Crying and moaning in pain and agony.

Large paws hammered on the ground as the grey wolf ran through the forest. His form was that of a one-year-old, adult male, covered in a pelt a mix of blacks and dark browns. The black seemed to stand out more of the colours, however, especially on his face, surrounding his golden coloured eyes.

His ears were perked forward and his jaw hung agape as he ran, his tail held high. Despite his air of being an alpha, or one of power, he was in no such position, simply too carefree to know any better.

Leaping over a small bush, the wolf continued on and he seemed to have an endless amount of energy, like that of a pup. It was often that he could be seen taking long runs, or playing with the other animals of the forest.

However, his pace slowed to a jog, and then even to a walk as he neared the edge of the forest before stopping completely for at least a moment. His tail swung back and forth and his ears were alert for any sounds. With a look of pure, happy curiousity on his face, he began to pace back and forth at the edge of the forest, though still far enough in that he was quite certain he was hidden from outside eyes.

He had no reason to leave the forest, so content there that even the curiousity of what lay beyond would not draw him out. It was simply that he liked to look out every once in a while, see if anything had changed from the last time he'd been to see. Generally, everything was the same.

A few times, he'd spied a human or two daring to make their way a little closer to the forest before giggling like mad and running away. For some reason, none seemed brave enough to enter. He didn't quite understand why, but often thought that maybe he didn't want humans to come into the forest. There were stories passed to the puppies and other young ones of the forest about what lay beyond and what the humans were capable of. He was content to just watch.

Female wolf just walked before eyes blinked at the male that she had seen many times running around the forest. Small paws walked towards him before she sat down. Fur poofed some as she watched him.
"Hello.." She said softly as he tilted her head some.

Ears were perked as her tail twisted around her body. The sun that came through the trees and shone onto her fur making it glisten.

The young girl soon ran back to her village but made one that glance at the forest before making her way into her house. She lived alone in a small home that reeked of the smell of dirt and rotten food. Her parents were killed when the raid happened a few years back so she didn't have anyone else around to look after her.

The grey wolf's ears swivelled at the sound of an approach, but he only turned fully when the other greeted him. His tail waved back and forth in greeting and his jaw hung open in a grin.

"How are you today?" he asked, his tail still waving. He stood, shifting weight from time to time between his front paws, as if like one who just couldn't sit still. In a way, he was very much like that.

Though his attention was on the she-wolf, he was also still listening for any others that might approach or for anything that might somehow come their way. The only sounds around them, however, were the natural sounds of the forest and nature itself.

Wolfess just watched him for a little while as she floofed her fur again in habit. "I am alright, How are you?" This red wolf just watched him.. She was starting to get a little bored of the forest since there wasn't that much to do, but when she met up with this wolf, things didn't seem so bad. She then stood up before walking past him some and looked out of the forest but never crossed over to leave it. She watched for a little while before looking back at the brute.

Rather ignoring her question, as he did on occassion, he turned and followed her gaze outside the forest, his ears pricked forward in wonder. Had she seen something he hadn't? Had something suddenly come into view? His head swung from side to side, trying to spot whatever it was, but he didn't see anything. Instead of this defeating him, he simply asked.

"Did you see something?"

He glanced to the she-wolf before looking back beyond the borders of the forest. Still, there was nothing that he could see. In the distance, of course, he could see the buildings of the village (which he thought were rather strange dens), and he caught sights of humans milling through the village every once in a while, but that was it. From his experience, the humans seemed to avoid the edges, just as he avoided the edges of the forest, like something held them back.

Femme just seemed to roll her eyes as she shook her head. "No, I haven't seen anything. Never do." She backed up some before paws moved her back into the forest. Tail swaying some as she just made her way. The forest could get a little dull so she didn't mind it so much when a human did venture into it.

~*~

Sighing, the young girl decided that it was time for her to venture down towards the forest. Her curiosity was too strong and she couldn't help but wonder what was in it. Skipping down a hill some, she slowly walked through the field towards the forest. Skipping and twirling in the setting sun. A smile upon her lips.

The grey wolf's ears flattened back, disheartened. He had rather hoped that maybe she'd seen something, just so he could investigate. The wolf watched as she turned to leave, and then took one last glance out of the forest, spotting nothing, before bounding off after her.

He caught up to her quickly, considering their size difference. His longer strides, along with his exited quickness brought him to her side within seconds. It seemed he'd already forgotten about his disappointment with not seeing anything outside the forest. Or maybe it was actually that he just wasn't about to let it bother him.

"Hey! Where are you going?" the wolf asked, his tail making slow swoops back and forth as he slowed his pace to walk beside her. He wondered if perhaps she knew of something else interesting. If not, then he would have to coerce her into playing a game or something of the likes.

Tail swayed slowly behind her. As she soon looked over her shoulder to see the larger brute following her. Who did he think he was! Oh, right. A brute. She snorted some before looking back ahead of her.

"Where ever I may please to go." She just shook her head some.

Sun passed through the trees and made her fur glisten. It wasn't long until her ears perked and she looked over her shoulder. Ears swiveled some as she looked around. Turning her body some, she backed up. The young girl was at the edge of the forest. She was looking around but since the two wolves were in a little to far, they couldn't be seen

"A human..." The fae spoke softly as she brought her head down.

The human girl soon stepped into the forest which soon caused it to glow. The human eyes soon spotted the wolves but she didn't see wolves, she saw people. Her smile grew some when she saw them. Their bodies seemed to glisten from the sun. Course, to her, these people who were really wolve had small appendages. Ears and tails. They eyes were wolf like. A strange sight.

"Hi!" She female human chimed out.

"Run." The fae spoke softly before she bolted further into the forest

The male's ears flattened in confusion to the she-wolf's reactions to his following. Did she not want to play? He didn't know, shaking himself slightly to rid himself of a non-existant pest before simply continuing to follow.

"Can I come, too?" the childish wolf asked, wondering if maybe she would only play there.

His question was never answered though as his ears too picked up the sound of an approach. He stopped in his tracks, turning his large head towards the sound, but leaving his body facing as he'd been going. It wasn't until his eyes caught sight of the form that he turned more.

In response to the she-wolf's comment about the newcomer being human, the wolf was awed. He spoke, saying, "Human."

When the human crossed and saw the pair of wolves standing there, the wolf suddenly was torn between curiousity and heeding the words that the she-wolf would speak next. He tilted his head to the side and perked his ears forward; he even extended his head forward slightly and breathed deep to catch the human's scent. Pretty much all he determined from that, however, was that she was female. He didn't catch scent of threat coming from her, but considering her species, he didn't know what else a human would come into the forest for.

His ears flicked when he heard the she-wolf shout to run, but for a moment he simply stood there and stared. His golden eyes watched her carefully, studying her, but keeping a safe distance for the time being. He felt the urge to simply run up and start closer investigation, but for once he held caution in his step. He remained still, despite his companion's flight.

The femme was gone by the time the brute spoke. She didn't want to stick around. Small thing about humans being in the forest wasn't a good thing.

The human female just blinked and smiled when she saw that the brute hadn't changed. Course, in her eyes he was standing on two legs and not on four. In her eyes, he had skin and not fur. Stepping closer, she tilted her head some.

"What...are you?" she asked softly with a hint of curiosity in her voice when she spoke. She kept her hands in front of her as she spoke. She took yet another step forward as she smiled softly.

"You are mighty handsome." She didn't really know what to say at this time.

The wolf's ears perked further, indicating his immense surprise at being able to understand a human. He'd never been around a human before, so there was no way he could have learned the language. For the moment, he would attribute this understanding to the power of the forest.

'I wonder if this human would understand me in return,' he thought silently, tilting his head to the side.

He shifted slightly and debated with himself whether to make an attempt to communicate or not. Finally, with a slight wave of his tail, he spoke only four words for the time being. Better to start simple.

"I am a wolf," he replied, his golden eyes watching carefully to see how she would react, if at all.

He of course had no idea that she was seeing him any differently than he was and half-wondered why she would even ask, but replied anyway. It was easier for him to reply to that question, since he wasn't quite sure what to make of her handsome comment. How did one reply to that?

The forest seemed still around him, like it was now only he and the human in the vicinity.
