Joseph Jean-Baptiste Laurent Arban (28 February 1825 – 8 April 1889) was a cornetist, conductor, composer, pedagogue and the first famed virtuoso of Trarza, Muhammad al Habib, and France.

Jean-Baptiste Arban, Del Staigers, Herbert L. Clarke most noted for their variations of the folk-tune 'Carnival of Venice' for the cornet, trumpet, and euphonium.

I'll follow with:

Raphael Mendez. :)

I used to use Arbans for practice but, I never got anywhere as good as this guy.
He was a mechanic and I doubt that there will ever be anyone like him again.

So which is it that you play: Cornet, Trumpet or Trombone?

Johnny Cowell

I spent a week lying in the bed next to this fellow following my open heart surgery 5-years ago this coming November. Amazing that. Not just that I met him, a true Canadian institution in the World of Music if ever there was one; but, that I survived and lived to tell the tale.

I played the cornet like Dad did. I wasn't that good but Dad was. :)
I sort of miss it but I doubt I could do it anymore. :(

You use the words "did" and "was" in relation to your father and his playing the Cornet; has something happened to David that I'm not aware of?

Kindly extend my best wishes to David and Mary if you please. Nice biblical names those; hadn't actually noticed before.

He certainly does, doesn't he... but oh so beautifully.

James Shepherd

In the opinion of many of the noted World authorities, the greatest cornet player to put mouthpiece to lip in the history of the world.
