There are many stories in the wizarding world. Probably the biggest is that of Harry James Potter, the boy who lived and conquered the dark lord.

However, Harry's story was not the only central one happening. Whilst he and his friends were struggling year after year, other students experienced their own problems and triumphs. Each student is unique, they all have their past, present and future.

It's time to take a turn in the magical world that wasn't in the original books.

Micheal Gambon or Richard Harris?

Which actor do you prefer as Dumbledore? Which actor do you imagine as Dumbledore in your mind? Possibly one of the greatest discussions in the Harry Potter world.

In my opinion it has to be Micheal Gambon. Richard Harris in the first two movies was just "old man in chair" he had none of the life that JK Rowling described. In the books Dumbledore is described basically as an old man with the energy of a much younger man. While Gambon might not have the look that Richard Harris has he has the great deal of energy, the humour, the charm and the wit. He is my favorite, I can imagine him as Dumbledore in any situation, in the serious scenes and the comic moments. That bit in the Prisoner of Azkaban when he rants about Armando Dippet's strawberry fields so the trio can escape still makes me laugh (I suppose it's the subtlety of the humour) but I'm ranting so I'll leave it there. But in my opinion it has to be Gambon!

What do you think?

Richard Harris is how I imagined Dumbledore. However I think later when he gets into battles, he turns into a more of a Micheal Gambon Dumbledore.
Dumbledore is supposed to be a clam, wise man. However he can have a fiery temper when angered. That's a bit of both actors I think.

Micheal Gambon suits the darker themes of the newer movies well.

Richard Harris, definitely. He looked so perfect on the first two movies. Michael Gambom seemed too fast-paced. I dunno how to explain it but he always seemed so angry(?) Though I liked the energy he exuded on the OotP movie with Voldemort, I still have my doubts whether Richard could have done it better.

Richard Harris, on the other hand, was so calm and wise-looking. Plus, he looked so much like the Dumbledore I had in mind when I read the books.

Like Tigscat said Richard Harris is the image of Dumbledore. However Micheal Gambon is a far better Dumbledore in the fighting scenes.

I disagree, I don't think he looked wise at all. He seemed to emit no emotion at all in my opinion... like I say; old man in chair.

I don't know why so many people dislike Michael Gambon, I think he was perfect and not at all too angry. But all to their own I suppose ^_^

Honestly, I'm not too hot on either of them. In the DH scene with Dumbledore in the 3rd to last chapter, I actually imagined Ian McKellen for some reason.

Ian McKellen would certainly be interesting in the part... but I imagined Mr Gambon
