Each student is unique, they all have their past, present and future. It's time to take a turn in the magical world that wasn't in the original books. Join The Magic! Find out more |

The sixth movie based on Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince is finally here! Feel free to leave your thoughts after you have seen the film and reflected on it. What did you like? What changes didn't you like? And, did it live up to your expectations? I will say no more, as I'm sure you'll have plenty to discuss having seen the film.

Honestly guys, I think it was probably the worst potter movie yet, there were some ok changes like ginny and harrys kiss, but the worst was the fact that harry wasn't petriefied, he just let snape by and chickened out instead of doing something. no funeral, and i couldn't tell if harry picked up the elder wand or not. Harry and giny had no relationship just a kiss. How did dumbles wand ened up on his desk if Malfoy disarmed him in the astronemy tower. That and even though they know the inportance of both dobby and kreacher their part was taken out. They knew what Malfoy was trying to use and Harry even saw it but didn't think abiut it when they wer ein the room of hidden things, no mention of the diadem at all. So basically you couldn't get what was happening if you hadn't read the book. after the credits rolled i just kept telling my girlfriend bullshit over and over again. **side note, Ginny's like 2 inches taller than Harry, instead of him being a head taller than her.** |

Was released in the UK yesterday, so I went to see it last night. My thoughts: Impressive. Most of the plot points were in there. I haven't read the book in a while so this was a nice recap of the story. Because of this I had forgotten about some of the finer details such as Dobby and Winky. The odd thing bothered me; such as how the beginning was changed and the cafe scene. I guess it is different to starting every movie at the Dursley's, yet it seemed a bit odd for Dumblefore to just appear. In relation to this, I could not help characters just popping out of nowhere. For example, Hagrid at Hogsmede (the trio could have met Hagrid and walked with them instead). Another is how Snape appeared out of nowhere in the bathroom (he could have come in shouting about why the floor had become flooded and realised what had happened). Just seems a bit deus ex machina. I think there was too much humour. In a way, this was good because the screen was full and the atmosphere was great. However this is one of the darker tales and should have had fewer laughs. Dumbledore's death was not as moving as I would have hoped on screen. But had some nice touches such as using the wands as candles. They are just niggles, but it did not stop me from immensely enjoying the film. |

I have to say that I thought it was one of the better potter films, it did miss stuff out like they all do but I thought it was a good adaption of the book however it did miss stuff out such as the battle at the end and Dumbledore's funeral. |

Going to use the exact same post I wrote in another forum, because really, all I wanted to say was there: (some edited parts of course! ;) ) I would have posted earlier, except that since I haven' slept since I watched the film (some 24 hours ago) and I really needed sleep =) Anyway.... While I do agree with both Zhu and anti (and Ivan, and James) about the lack of some things I regard the HP movies as a parallel universe, so I'm not exactly disappointed because there was a distinct lack of Severus Snape handing Harry his arse on a plate at the end, nor am I disappointed because there was no funeral for Dumbledore, nor any house-elves showing up, let's face it, they were not key ingredients of the overall plot so in a film that has two and a half hours their lack of appearance is understandable and welcome, I for one wouldn't want to waste 5 minutes watching Kreatcher trying to not submit to Harry, the 30 seconds with Harry and Ginny were all the waste I could face (even if the kiss is, in a way, important to the epilogue, not the plot per si). The only scene I actually missed and that I'd like to have seen is Harry snob Ginny Weasley, because let's face it, that's what he does in the book. But no matter what, I still find that the lack of Rufus Scrimgeour (sp?) and the mention of a new Minister of Magic got them a negative point or two. I mean, the change of Minister IS important to the overall plot, because it's Scrimgeour, not Fudge that lays his life on the line to keep Harry's location safe. I was actually quite surprised with the quality of the film, I was used to mediocre quality at most! And then.. they go and hand me, well... this! I was indeed pleasantly surprised!! Must go and watch it again =) Actually the film has several bonus points that we didn't get in the books, such as it hints more of Harry being a horcux, it doesn't throw us that information right at the end of the series and expects us to deal with it. Also there's more of a Harry/Hermione feeling than any Harry/Ginny or Ron/Hermione... And can I just reaffirm my love of Alan Rickman?? My GOD! As one of my friends says 'I just lost my panties' and it happened several times along the film. But specially during Slughorn's party when Harry says 'where did he go?' and Severus gives him a loooooong look before stalking away, and at the very end during the Sev/Harry confrontation. Dumbledore's death, even if expected, was a blow. It was so much more emotional than in the book!! In the book it was '"Severus, please!" "Avada Kedavra" *dead*' In the movie I got to watch the emotions JK kept off the scene. And I have to say, yet again, that Alan Rickman was bloody FANTASTIC in this film. The scene in the bathroom, healing Draco was one of the most emotionals in the film. Btw our golden trio was also fantastic =) Much better than I expected it. A special notice for Bella and Cissy (that only got one scene, but it was more than enough) that took insanity to a whole new level of freakiness. I guess working with Tim Burton did her a lot of good! Can I just say that, the scene in the cavern was AMAZING! I was, of course, expecting the infery, but when the creature grabbed Harry's arm it caused me to jump out of my chair and give a whispered shout (as much of a contradiction as that is) 'Fuck!' All in all a film I really must see again! |

I'm going to partly agree with Jonathan here. I have stopped going to see the films expecting to see an adaptation of the book; but rather an alternate retelling of the story. Another reason why I do not feel as disappointed as some; is because sometimes, it is easy to forget that Deathly Hallows is to be a two-parter film. For the film producer's sake, and for the fans, I hope they start the film with Dumbledore being buried with the Elder Wand. I just hope they have moved some things around in order to isolate everything related to the Deathly Hallows into those two films. In part II, there will be a large duel at Hogwarts anyway, which will more than make up for the lack thereof here. When the hand grabbed Harry... The screen I was in was the last available one, as the other showings were all full. In fact, I could only see one available seat in the one I was in. So you can pretty much guess, when that bit happened, the whole cinema moved. |

When Dumbledore died, me and the two other idiots (who I fondly call friends =P )went all teary eyed, sniffing and amazed by Alan Rickman |
