There are many stories in the wizarding world. Probably the biggest is that of Harry James Potter, the boy who lived and conquered the dark lord.

However, Harry's story was not the only central one happening. Whilst he and his friends were struggling year after year, other students experienced their own problems and triumphs. Each student is unique, they all have their past, present and future.

It's time to take a turn in the magical world that wasn't in the original books.

Potions Class 1: An Introduction to Potions; Open to all. :)

The potions classroom still managed to retain its musty, creepy, atmosphere over the years, perhaps due to flickering candlelight which bounced off the walls from the sconces. The windows were closed and the room was dim and chilly.

The main floor of the classroom was filled with large work tables, each accompanied by two stools. Each seat in the class had a stand suitable for a standard cauldron and a small bunsen burner for a fire source beneath it.

The walls of the room were lined with shelves, laden with jars of every shape and size. The entire room was fastidiously neat, and all the jars were organized according to size and shape. Each had uniform, detailed parchment-coloured labels describing their contents.

Most of the jars appeared to be filled with innocous liquids or plant materials. However, many of the jars housed more insidious ingredients: there was one jar that appeared to be filled with bloated pickled toads, another stored fat eyeballs from an unknown mammal, and still others seemed to contain the visceral organs of animals - spleens, newt tails, a whole jar filled with tiny black beetle eyes, and wriggling, fat flobberworms. There was one jar that appeared to hold some sort of severed hand, suspended in gelatinous fluid as though it was waving to the class.

Black marble shelves along the perimeter of the classroom held a host of common lab equipment: stills, crucibles, pestles and mortars, an open jar filled with glass and wooden stirring rods, empty phials and corks, knives, evaporating dishes- everything a young potion maker may need was on hand. There was also a fairly large collection of ancient books on potion making at the back of the class.

At the front of the class, there was a chalkboard, a lectern, and a large locked cabinet which housed the more dangerous potion-making supplies and brewed potions. There was also a shelf lined with cauldrons that were steaming and bubbling, brewing whatever the professor was working on.

Sat at the large oak desk at the very front of the dim classroom was a pretty young-looking witch with a warm smile to her face. Her long caramel brown hair was tied up in a bun on top of her head, her bright sparkling blue eyes were frame by small rectangle-shaped glasses, her skin was lightly bronzed, her cheeks were spread with just a little rose pink blusher, her heart-shaped lips were covered with a light coating of pale pink gloss.

She wasn't dressed like a usual Professor was, she was dressed younger looking. She wore a tight white bloue with the first two buttons unfastened, a black pencil skirt that reached just above her knees, skin-coloured tights and black shoes with a small heel and a silver buckle.

She smiled warmly to the Classroom, waiting for her Students to arrive.

Written on the board behind her was;

A joke of a romantic.

Rumors spread through Hogwarts like wild fire, first one person would spread it through their house then it would branch out through the bridges between houses known to Oliver as inter-house friendships. No one knew of this phrase or they would look down on him as some sort of weirdo. So naturally he kept small things like this to himself. Eventually the school's hot new rumor reached his noble house of Ravenclaw, there was a new potions master in town, there was also a new Charms professor but he didn't have Charms until last period, he had double potions now.

He walked down the narrow stairway into the dungeon corridor, just as dark and dingy as he remembered it, Lovely place for a class he thought as he wandered through the dimly lit corridor, he remembered thinking the same thing when he was a small, curious, black haired little midget that the school fondly calls first years. He had indeed done some growing up since then, for one thing he no longer brought his cat everywhere. That wasn't really by choice, Salem had gotten to the point where he didn't have the energy to climb the stairs of the north tower like he used to so he stayed up there until Oliver carried him down which he rarely did.

The Potions classroom was as dark and miserable as it had been in Snape's teaching day, he looked to the front of the classroom and he saw who he assumed the new Professor, although if the room was full he would have thought it was a student who forgot to wear her uniform, she looked so young, and for one thing she was certainly better to look at than Snape, maybe staying awake in Potions wouldn't be so hard anymore. Oliver showed her a warming smile as he took a seat in the middle of the classroom, this way he wasn't too close so she thought he had a thing for her but he wasn't so far away that she thought he was avoiding him.

Hunter was racing towards the potions room, he had to go into the potions class with some of the 6th years as well, mainly because he was been told to by his head of house, but also because it was on his timetable for some reason, and already he was running late.

As he got in he stopped for a moment as he caught sight of the new potions teacher he had heard so much about, she was younger than he expected and a heck of a hotty as well.

He caught his breath and sat at the back of the classroom in his usual seat, he wanted to be at the back because not only was he the only gryffindor there, but he wanted to see what this new teacher was like without getting in the way.

Professor Ball smiled warmly at the two boys that had entered her classroom. The first she recognised as being Oliver Halliwell, the Ravenclaw Boy.

"Good morning Mr. Halliwell and how was your weekend?!" She smiled brightly at him. She watched as he sat down and she nodded. "I hope you're ready for class. We've got a good lesson today." She said as she adjusted the glasses on her nose.

Then the door swung open once more and Hunter Phoenix walked in. She chuckled a little to herself. He was gawping at her, he obviously found her attractive.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Mr. Pheonix. Father of my future first Great-Niece." She smirked a little and walked over to where Hunter was sitting. She extended her hand.

"Professor Ball. I'm married to your Fiancee's Uncle." She laughed. "I bet you wasn't expecting that!" She winked, but only in a friendly manner and went to sit back down at her desk. "So is my brat of a Niece driving you insane yet?" She asked.

Hunter was lost for words, he had just ben gawping at his future Aunt. He was a little shaken up to say the least. When he got back to the present and wasn't blown away by it all he managed to shake hands with the new professor.

"Nice to meet you, I'm looking forward to lessons, and no she isn't driving me insane just yet, I'm just been careful because of the mood swings right now"

Hunter smiled and then changed the subject.

"sooooo....what we learning today then Professor"

A joke of a romantic.

Oliver cast the Professor a casual smile, "Professor I'm always prepared for Potions class," he said. Oliver thought that it was always a good idea to get on the teachers good side no matter how much you despise their subject, "and my weekend was somewhat uneventful, not many friends you see," he added in no way intending to receive sympathy.

He sat back and listened to the conversation he Professor had with the Gryffindor boy he now knew to be called Hunter, well it is true that you learn something knew every day. Oliver knew of Roxy's pregnancy but he did not know that Hunter was the father, or that Professor Ball was her 'Aunt' via marriage. Hogwarts was getting more like a muggle soap with each passing day.

Yet again, David had set off to his next class, which was potions a few minutes early. He did not particularity spend his break talking to others, as he had woken up late. He had spent the entire night walking through the grounds and thinking things over.

He proceeded down into the dark and dingy dungeons and heard the familiar dripping of the damp falling from the ceilings. And the familiar footsteps echoing throughout the hollow space as he, and other students, walked from and to classes.

David found the classroom he was looking for. There was nobody waiting outside, which meant he was early or was late. Without hesitation he pushed open the large wooden door with a loud creak and let it shut behind him.

The classroom was the same as it always had been, full of bottles, jars, cauldrons and desks. However there was a difference, as he was not expecting the same teacher he usually had. The teacher was actually fairly attractive. David was not crazy for potions, but at least some eye-candy would make it more interesting. Judging by the name on the board, he gathered her name was Professor Kelly Ball.

"Hi Professor" he simply said. David never said anything much. Then he proceeded to a seat, grabbed his books and placed them on the desk. There were a few others, already in the room.

"Well Mr. Phoenix, you will be discovering that once the Class is full, won't you?" Professor Ball laughed a little. She moved from her seat at her desk and walked around to the front of it, her heels clicking on the marble flooring. She hoisted herself up onto the desk and sat on it, crossing one leg over the other and letting out a deep breath.

"I hope you lot are going to treat me with care! I'm a little nervous about today!" She smiled warmly as more students began to fill up her class.

"and my weekend was somewhat uneventful, not many friends you see,"

"Oh don't talk like that Mr. Halliwell!" Professor Ball looked a little sorry for the sixth year Ravenclaw boy. "I'm sure you have friends! You're lovely! Maybe you and Mr. Phoenix could pair up for the lesson, eh?" She winked at them both.

Then the last student walked in wearing his Gryffindor robes, David Rowe.
"Hi Professor"

"Ah! good morning Mr. Rowe! Great now that we're all here we can finally begin!" Professor Ball looked quite excited. "You'll earn house points for hard work, you'll have house points deducted for slacking off. I'm not as harsh as Professor Snape was, don't worry kids, I know what he was like, I had him when I was your age." She rolled her eyes. "Greasy old git if you ask me!" She laughed.

"Okay, getting started..." Professor Ball waved her wand at her chalkboard and the work that she had written up earlier quickly appeared.

Underclassmen:
CALMING DRAUGHT
1 pint water
6 drops fluxweed oil
Inner membrane and fluid from 3 bloodroot stems

* Add 6 drops fluxweed oil to warm water.

* Split the bloodroot stems lengthwise with your knives and s******e out all fluid and fibrous material from inside the stems. Crush with mortar and pestle into a fine paste and add to the cauldron.

* Stir slowly until a light steam rises from the cauldron, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise stirring.

N.E.W.T. level students:
ELIXIR TO INDUCE EUPHORIA
1 pint water
12 drops fluxweed oil
1 vervain root, minced finely
Inner membrane and fluid from 3 bloodroot stems

* Add 6 drops fluxweed oil to warm water.

* Split the bloodroot stems lengthwise with your knives and s******e out all fluid and fibrous material from inside the stems. Crush with mortar and pestle into a fine paste and add to the cauldron.

* Stir slowly until a light steam rises from the cauldron, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise stirring.

Professor Ball looked at the students.

"This is the first step for each potion. As you see, there are a great deal of similarities between the two in both ingredients and brewing methodology. In virtually all potions that change a physical or emotional state, the first ingredients in the potion are those that invoke change. Fluxweed is a very common ingredient in potions that demand change; for mood-altering potions, we use very little of it and only the oils. In potions that create a dramatic physical change, such as polyjuice potion, the entire plant may be used."

Professor Ball paced back and forth in the front of class as she spoke. She watched the students carefully to see that they were all being attentive and using safety precautions.

"Can anybody venture a guess as to how a sprig of peppermint would effect the Euphoria Potion? Oh... and while you answer, you may all begin your brewing process now. Remember-- only N.E.W.T. students should be brewing the Elixir to Induce Euphoria."

Hunter got all of his equipment ready and began working on his potion, he was doing the N.E.W.T level potion and was going to have to work on it pretty hard.

After following the instructions, he soon had the beginnings of a good version of the potion and he was also thinking about the teachers question about what peppermint would do in the potion, then he remembered something Snape had once told him about it last year. He called out

"Professor, wouldn't a sprig of peppermint counter the effects of the Elixer, like the excessive singing and nose tweaking"

Hunter hoped he was right, but he didn't hold much hope for it and he just kept working on his potion, making sure he was following the instructions and checking his potion all the time.
