Ah, I was hoping someone would see that. ![]() DNDOG (DnD Online Games) is a Play-by-Post site; kinda like this one but it's focused on DnD. You can play or DM games (or both, if you have enough free time), but be warned: what you may be able to do in a month in RL game sessions once a week will take months in PbP because people generally post (At most) once a day per game. You can introduce yourself in the New Member Introduction forum, and you'll get helpful information to start with there. You can make a player application in the Player Ads forum, but that doesn't always work well (since DM's have to come find you instead of you finding them). So, you should probably browse the DM Ads forum to find a nice lowlevel game to start with a DM who can help you with char creation and the like. |

Thanks Will, i may see if i have time for this, would be looking for a low level eberron game, i was guessing it was firly slow paced, but one more question i had from a glance around - dice rolling - is there some sort of client that you download or is it on trust? |

Neither; it's part of the forum. You use dice tags to roll dice where everyone can see it. Like so: [dice]1d20+5[/dice] There's a thread in the I'm Confused forum to test out your dice skills, so you can tell whether or not you're doing it right. Also, a word to the wise: NEVER edit posts with rolls in them. The rolls will have a nasty red "Fixed" next to them, and your DM will probably make you reroll them. If you messed up, either PM the DM or post OOC about it; don't edit the post. The reason for the "Fixed" is that when you post a dice roll, the forum changes the coding in what you posted to a certain code. That code shows what you rolled on the dice, and each time you roll a code is selected at random for that type of die (eg; a roll of 1d20 would select from the 20 codes for d20's, pick one, and replace the "1d20" in your post with that code) So, if you learn the codes, you can actually roll exactly what you want to every time. To prevent this, the "Fixed" is implemented. |

Just be warned; games tend to die out frequently. I've joined three so far and all have died within a month. But, if you manage tio get into a good game, it could last for years. I think the longest still-running game has been going for 3 or so years now; not sure. |

I used to play D&D a lot in real life...but I realized I don't like it. Most of the rules are completely stupid. And the rules keep changing from edition to edition and DM to DM. I only enjoy the game when I'm the DM and my players don't know the game at all, because then I do what I want and my players don't mind because I'm nice, fair and creative. If my players know the game, we keep fighting on rules. The main problem is that I LOVE roleplay but HATE powerplay. I don't even want to touch a die. I mean, in most fights we all know the players will win, so why even bother? And sometimes the players will lose, so again, why bother? The only time I'd like the players to fight is when they could win OR lose without disrupting the scenario; e.g: when the outcome actually mattered. The problem with doing the fights normally is that players want to always win so they keep pushing for great equipment. I'm too nice to say no. I seriously don't see how people enjoy rolling dice and adding up numbers. I want the game to be pure roleplay. I just tell my players to give themselves whatever stats that fits the character they want to play and give themselves whatever equipment they think is necessary. In my last game, one of the players was a rogue who had robbed his old guild, so he was full of magical artifacts; whereas another was a barbarian who only had a plain bow and a sharp stick. We started off with roleplay, and it was going great. They were all having great fun, even though I was pulling everything out of my *** at that moment. Then we got to the first fight... I panicked. An enemy bard disabled three of the characters. Then the rogue turned invisible and the mage wiped out 80% of the enemy with one spell. I made the enemy minatour captain sniff out the rogue just to annoy him, and I bullrushed him to make him drop into the water. He argued that he was invisible so the minotaur wouldn't be able to stop himself and fall after him. That wasn't in the rules, but I said okay. Then he whined and wanted a reflex save. I said okay. He caught the edge of the ship. I gave the minotaur a reflex save too, and he wrapped his arms against the rogue. The rogue knew he couldn't win in a grapple check, so he used his escape artist check. They tied. He wanted to roll again. I said that they weren't actually tied as I'd give him a penalty AND that if it was tied he wouldn't be able to escape anyway. He kept yelling for a reroll. I rerolled, tied again. Another reroll, he rolled a 20. He said he kicked the minotaur off and climbed up. I repeated that they were never tied as I gave him a penalty. He said "Fine, he dragged me down and I'm dead then!" and stormed off. All the other players were already asleep, as it was about 4 AM. We never played again. I'd have been only too happy to just tell them they won and caught the minotaur captain and the bard alive without all that fighting; but some of the players(mostly the rogue) were deeply tied to the rules and wouldn't ever accept that. Their loss, my roleplays are always fun. |

Well, DnD doesn't sound like what you want then. DnD is part RP and part game with rules; you want pure RP. There's places to do that too, though not on this site. Look and you will find... ![]() Though on the site, everything is usually RP-heavy. Mainly because instead of trying to come up with things in real-time with everyone around a table, you have pretty much an entire day(if not longer) to plan what you want to say. Still, there's nothing quite what you want there (you want a 20 on a scale of 0-20, with 20 being Role-Play only and 0 being Roll-Play only; the highest really done on the site is around a 16, with a lot of roleplay but a good amount of ruels as well.) |

I can live with rules... But if some moron throws a stone at a dragon, rolls three 20s and says "OMG INSTANT KILL", I feel disgusted. And it's just that most rules suck! No man in plate armor can jump over a chasm without the aid of magic. Having +35 to jump is completely stupid! D&D characters quickly become superhuman, and I don't like that. |

Well, the triple-20 instant kill rule is optional, and even if it's being used in some instances it makes no sense. Also, remember DM's perogative: the DM can basically do whatever he wants if he feels it's necesary, from changing a rule to taking away magic items to even disallowing the use of a skill in a certain circumstance. All depends on the DM, and if you're DM'ing, then you make it the way you want.

Yes, but I disagree with and change SO MUCH, I'm practically writing my own game system. I don't mind doing that at all, I'm just saying it's not D&D anymore. |

I have a D&D campaign going in one of the Magic forums I frequent. It actually finished one adventure and we're starting another. I take care of all of the dice rolls though. I've participated in what Grash describes too, but they kinda peter out, mainly because the person running them stopped logging on
