...There's not already a topic for this? o.o At least none that I could find... Anyway...Record-breaking, best-selling series that I guaruntee you have to live in a nice little sheltered bubble to not have heard of it by now. It's an excellent series, and for those of you who don't know, I'm going to summarize to the best of my ability. Let's see...Basic outline is that we are introduced first to the Dursleys. They live in a nice, normal, 'perfect' little town, are very stuck-up, and think everything they do is right. They have a secret though, which they hope no one else in their town hears about, and that is that they're related to the witch and wizard Lily and James Potter. We then learn that Lily and James have been murdered by the power-hungry Lord Voldemort, but for some reason their one year-old son, Harry, was able to survive the attack that had killed thousands of other wizards, and all that remained of that was a lightning-shaped scar above his right eyebrow. Harry is sent to live with his aunt and uncle (the Dursleys). Growing up, he is constantly bullied by people at school and his cousin, Dudley. His room is a closet under the stairs, and he is given second-hand clothes that belonged to Dudley, who is a lot larger than he is. He was never told that he is a wizard, that there is a wizarding community, and whenever he asked questions (which usually resulted in him being hurt or yelled at) about his parents, he was told they died in a car crash. Around his eleventh birthday, he gets a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His uncle grows furious at it, they don't tell him anything about it, and take away the letter. Since he didn't reply, Hogwarts sends more letters, and Harry is still forbidden to know anything about Hogwarts or reply to the letters, or even look at them. Since this could go on forever if I kept doing a complete synopsis, I'll summarize more. Harry goes to Hogwarts, makes friends, and finds out Voldemort isn't dead, but only part of him remains. I would explain that more, but it'd be giving away a big detail in the sixth book. And so, to not give away major spoilers, I'll just say that in the first book, he posesses someone. In the second, his memory acts for him. In the third he gets one of his servants back. In the fourth, I can't say. And I can't say about the fifth and sixth either. The seventh and final book is due out on July 21st. Personally I'm starting to read the books over, to refresh my memory. I love this series. It's a book everyone can enjoy; little kids love it as much as the adults. Its theme is death, and many people die. I mean, the book opens with two murders. It's got as many sad parts as funny parts, and once you pick it up, most people can't put it down. So who else reads it? |

I don't much care for it either, it never really grabbed my attention when it first came out. Unlike thousands of other people, i never went rushing out to buy the books....... |

I did read the post. I asked that to emphasize that no one can really honestly say they don't like something unless they've attempted to like it, in this case, attempting to read it. Same reason I asked CH if he read it. |

Haven't read it (to save the inevitable question
), as, like General said, it never really caught my interest. Stuff about witches and wizards and the like has never really appealed much to me; I do enjoy some fantasy, but not really anything witchcraft-related.Not that I'm going to say that there's anything wrong w/ people who do enjoy the series--to each his own, in matters of personal taste. |

The Prisoner of Azkaban is the third, it's better to start with the first book if you're reading any series. And the movies stray very far from the books. |

I'm in the process of re-reading the series, I reserved a copy of the book a while ago at a bookstore, and I'm going to the midnight release party the store is having. |
