There are also many similarities to the Dark Ages or early Medieval times. From the extensive use of close combat weapons to the high value of faith to the lack of interest in technology (for the most part), it certainly bears a lot of similarity to Ye Olde Days.

But the late Roman Empire analogy works too.

Oh, and bob, the Tau aren't all squeaky clean either. There was some renegade commanders and infighting amongst them in the second Last Chancers book...which is a seriously fethed series, I might add.

I know, but nowhere near as much.... but they aren't anywhere near as developed either. I don't really know.

An interesting thought regarding the Tau...

If one extends the medieval analogy a little further, one might say that the Tau resemble the Islamic world of the time quite a bit--they seem to have a bit of a better grasp of technology that's been "lost" to the Imperium (miniaturized plasma weaponry, combat walker "battlesuits," etc.) while still being deeply religious (at least from the examples I've seen). Again, I'm only going on what I've read so far, so I could be making bad assumptions here...

It's been said that Tau most resemble Toaism, which is more of a peaceful serene nature but that's just what I read.

No, Spec, I think you're on to something with that. Hell, I never even thought about that...

But at the end of the day, the Imperium has waaaaay more people in it. The Tau were absolutely amazed by the population of one hive city, which is comparable to one of their planets. So the Imperium could grind 'em down if the orks, daemons, necrons, eldar, heretics, and rebels laid off for a few years... ;)

...Which takes us right back to the "late Roman Empire" analogy ;)

Well, hey... If you insist, I can expound upon that remark in more detail. Not right now, though, since it's getting pretty late...

I Borrowed SP's Caiaphas Cain books, and allthough i have yet to read a whole book, i find it to be very intresting. And it has to be really good for me to read it, i am picky when it comes to books.
