To live in ignorance......reminds me of a quote.....

"Hope is......comforting. It allows us to accept fate however tragic it might be."

Faith and religion gives people hope.......for most without it they would drown in their own sorrow.......reality is far to harsh and cruel for those who turn to god. But reality is the one thing in this world that is the absolute truth, unless the theories about all of existance being nothing more the something or someone's dream are true....and if they were to wake up we'd cease to be..........
"Roses, Daisies, Tulips, and even Lilacs can be deadly to those who suffer from floral allergies. So beautiful to look at and smell but a weapon none the less, whether it be the thorns of the rose or the toxic pollen of a petunia; Flower power is just as mighty as any sword!"

Ignorance is bad but faith provides many with a set of guidelines and a moral compass. It is important and one of the most human concepts that has been with us since the dawn of time, regardless of whether or not you believe in it.

Even the ancient egyptians believed in Gods and Goddesses........if there is such a thing it's more likely that there's more then one after all absolute power corrupts absolutely, therefore it'd make sense to divide the powers of creation unto several entities..............i wonder though could such power be wielded by mere mortals?, or must we cease to be as such and ascend to something greater?

I'd rather live in ignorance. Its much easier on the mind.
I'm not sure if any one can convince you their is a higher deity. I'll try though, how about those platypuses? Either God had just finished making marijuana or evolution was trying to pull one on us!

I doubt any being has the imagination to create all the different varieties of species there are in the world. As Arthur C. Clarke said, reality will always be more fantastic than any person's imagination.

Also, evolution doesn't work in giant leaps, but in tiny steps, so the platypus could very well have evolved naturally without any outside interference.

Faith isn't necessary to have such guidelines. But yeah, it's easier to accept a set that's already there instead of coming up with the same guidelines by yourself, so you have a point. Still, do you really need to believe in a god to accept the fact that the Golden Rule (do not do unto others what you wouldn't do unto yourself) is probably the best moral guideline there is?

I beleive humans are truly feeble creatures, we may think we're all that. But deep down each one of us is searching for our purpose in life and we all have fears and doubts and for some believing in a higher power gives them hope and comfort. They think that if they truly believe then all their problems can be shifted to 'god's' shoulders, but in the end only you can deal with your own problems. Faith provides peace of mind, an escape from a rapidly corrupting world. But it is a choice, we have free will we alone decide what we do or do not believe in. To answer you last question TP, i think some of us choose to believe because we're scared and if we screw up or make a mistake it seems kinda nice to think that all can be forgiven. Others simply believe because it was the way they were raised, often times they end up rebelling later in life.

You make it sound like faith is just self-delusion. You can't change the world by running away from it, reality will come crashing down on you sooner or later if you do. It's up to us humans to fix our world, and that won't happen by praying to gods that most probably don't even exist. If people would realize what power there is in humanity if we stopped relying on higher beings things will actually start happening.

Putting your hope in entities you don't even know exist... I think it's better to put your hopes in yourself, that you can do something about your situation instead of waiting for some higher being that never comes. It gives comfort yes, but it doesn't change a thing.
