Anyone else here a Terry Pratchett / Discworld fan? Been reading a bit of his stuff lately, and I have to say it's very amusing
 For those not in the know, Pratchett writes comedy fantasy, similar to Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was for science fiction (except slightly less over-the-top... well, at least the later ones are). It originally started out as a straight-up parody of epic fantasy in general, but since then it's gone on to spoof detective stories, power politics, and a number of other genres and settings. The stories are actually quite good in their own right, too. Don't worry too much about reading them in order; all of the books can be read as stand-alones, although some of them (the City Watch, the Lancre Witches (haven't actually read any of those yet...), and the Rincewind books) can be grouped together by recurring viewpoint characters. |
