It's a sci-fi show that my friends kind of got me hooked on. I'm only about 7ish episodes in, but I like it so far. From what I can gather of it, it's hundreds of years after the Earth was ruined, and it focuses on this crew of people on a space ship called Serenity. They basically get hired to do odd jobs that are of questionable legality, like smuggling things.

It gets into more detail than that, it's just kind of one of those things that's hard to explain. The characters are great, you get attached to them rather quickly and they've got such interesting personalities and histories and interactions with each other.

If you're going to watch it at all, don't start with episode 1. Start with the pilot episode, so that it explains a whole ton of stuff you would otherwise be confused about. It's a good show and it's definitely worth watching.

Heard of it, but never really seen it before. Sounds like something I'd want to watch, though, and every review I've seen is a good one.

Saw a copy of Serenity (the movie) in the Food City video rental place today but didn't buy it since I've been wondering about something:

Would it be possible to watch the movie as a stand-alone and still enjoy it, or is there a lot of background that's covered in the TV series and that would have me totally lost if I tried to watch the movie first?

Well seeing as they changed the characters a bit, i wouldn't have been lost by watching the movie first. It does give it background, but it stands alone enough not to be one of those if you didn't see the series your just not going to understand it type things.

My friend Val watched the movie first. All of my friends, who are completely and utterly obsessed with this series at the moment, say that there aren't many spoilers in the movie...

I just finished watching the series yesterday. I want to watch the movie now ^.^ I really liked the 14 episodes that they did, I just wish they'd continued...maybe, years from now, they will?

I think from what I read somewhere (probably TV Tropes; I'm way too obsessed w/ that site ATM), Serenity was actually supposed to be a sort of finale for the whole series, but I could be wrong.

It kind of was, but they've revived 'dead' series (...serieses....series's?) before. I dunno. It's just wishful thinking ^.^

Yeah...except they're not going to. Ah well. It was good, and I love it, and it'll never die. "Can't stop the signal" and all.
