Yay for this anime! In my opinion it's the only halfway decent vampire anime out there.

Anyway...it's about a girl named Yuuki who doesn't remember anything about her past. The most she can remember back to is when she was saved from a very monster-like vampire by a "good" vampire named Kaname. She was then brought to live with the headmaster of a school called Cross Academy. Cross Academy has day students and night students. The night students are vampires, the day students don't know it and aren't supposed to. This is actually a sort of experiment to prove that vampires and humans can live together cooperatively and without conflict.

Another character, Zero, is brought in. His family was slaughtered by a vampire, and he was brought by the headmaster to live with himself and Yuuki. Yuuki and Zero share a close friendship since they've had to live with each other, and now that they're older they're prefects at Cross Academy. They mainly keep the day students (who are, apparently, rabid fangirls) away from the night students. They also patrol the grounds at night to make sure the night students don't take it into their minds to hurt the day students, and so that the day students don't go anywhere near the night students.

The plot does get much more complex, especially the situation with Zero, who very early on we can see is not a normal person, and his family and the attack is explained as the situation with him worsens. There are 13 episodes out already, and the second season starts (in Japan) on October 6th of this year.

I like it very much, personally. The idea that vampires can be monsters or not monsters based on something other than personal choice appeals to me, since it's something I haven't seen before. I don't like other vampire anime because of...well, all the vampire hunting going on, and all of the stereotypical takes on vampires. Also, the plot can get thick, but it can still have a bit of humor to it, and that's something that all stories need (can we say 'comic relief'?). It does get a bit reverse-harem-ish, but not as much as a lot of other anime I've seen.

Hm...if you like Fruits Basket but also like vampires and a sad and mildly violent plot, this is good for you.
...An enemy that is pure evil? Right and wrong are not what separate us and our enemies. It's our different standpoints, our perspectives that separate us. Both sides blame one another. There's no good or bad side. Just 2 sides holding different views.
