The show is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island, and exhibits much of its humor in the form of cutaway gags that often lampoon American culture.

Main Cast
Peter Griffin, played by Seth MacFarlane (4/4/2/2/3), is the father and breadwinner of the Griffin family. A jovial if overweight middle-aged man, Peer loves his family intensely, though he often endangers them as a result of his lack of intelligence.
Louis Griffin, played by Alex Borstein (2/4/2/3/2), is the mother and homemaker of the Griffin family. A smart and beautiful middle-aged woman, Louis is the brains of the family, and she spends much of her time trying to clean up the messes her husband makes.
Chris Griffin, played by Seth Green (3/4/3/1/2), is the oldest child in the Griffin family. The apple truly did not fall far from the tree for Chris, who is very much like his father in every aspect, though a bit less jovial.
Stewie Griffin, played by Seth MacFarlane (4/4/2/2/3), is the youngest child of the Griffin family. Though only a toddler, Stewie is an evil genius, who spends many episodes pursuing schemes to takeover the world or kill his mother. Stewie can be understood only by certain characters but, despite that fact, he appears in episodes more often than any other character.
Brian Griffin, played by Seth MacFarlane (4/4/2/2/3), is the dog of the Griffin family. Brian is an incredibly intelligent liberal, though he never completed his college education, and has failed miserably to finish writing a book he's worked on for all nine seasons. Brian maintains a close bond with Stewie, appearing just as often as the family baby.
Joe Swanson, played by Patrick Warburton (2/4/4/2/2), lives in the Griffin family neighborhood and is Peter's best friend. A disabled police officer, Swanson is often the voice of conscious in the series, though he can lose his temper easily.
Glenn Quagmire, played by Seth MacFarlane (4/4/2/2/3), lives in the Griffin family neighborhood and is a close friend of Peter. A "ladies man," Quagmire is the opposite of Swanson, often proposing untowards activities. Quagmire, who goes by his last name, hates Brian, and is in love with Louis.
Cleveland Brown, played by Mike Henry (2/2/1/2/1), used to live in the Griffin family neighborhood and is a close friend of Peter. Brown now stars in his own show, The Cleveland Show, but makes guest appearances regularly on Family Guy

Guest Cast
Meg Griffin, played by Mila Kunis (4/4/4/2/4), is the middle child in the Griffin family. Although somewhat intelligence, Meg is extremely ugly, and she often appears in episodes solely to be insulted.

While their numbers decrease, the guests attempt to identify who among them is the murderer; they eventually point to Tom Tucker when a corpse is found in his room. The day after, Lois finds out Diane Simmons was the true killer. Diane explains she had set up everything in order to frame Tucker and kill Woods. As Diane prepares to murder Lois as well, she is ultimately killed by Stewie, as he wants to be the one who will kill Lois, and nobody else. Error: When Muriel got killed both Meg and Tom Tucker were there at the scene even though after the break they come running up to the group because they got into traps before.
