Main Cast
Richard Castle, played by Nathan Fillion, is one of the two main stars of this program. Castle is a best-selling mystery writer, who becomes a NYPD consultant after being interviewed about a group of homicides based on his books. Castle hopes to gain inspiration for a new series of books based upon his work; he also hopes to become closer to Detective Kate Beckett.

Detective Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic, is one of the two main stars of this program. Beckett is a renowned homicide investigator, who unwillingly takes on Castle as a quasi-partner, though she comes to enjoy his assistance after a time. Beckett is a workaholic, thanks in part to the unsolved nature of her mother's murder, but she develops feelings for Richard Castle during the series.

Detective Javier Esposito, played by Jon Huertas, is a detective on Beckett's squad and a former Special Forces sniper. Espesito is highly sarcastic but also highly skilled. He is close friends with Kevin Ryan.

Detective Kevin Ryan, played by Seamus Dever, is a detective on Beckett's squad and a former Special Forces sniper. Dever is very much an optimist, who is often willing to buy into Castle's crazy crime theories. He is close friends with Javier Espesito.

Dr. Lanie Parish, played by Tamala Jones, is a medical examiner with the City of New York. Parish has an upbeat outlook on life, despite her morbid work. She is Beckett's best friend.

Captain Roy Montgomery, played by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, is Beckett's commanding officer. Montgomery is a hands-off supervisor, who checks in to ensure progress, but lets Beckett control her own investigations.

Alexis Castle, played by Molly Quinn, is Castle's daughter. Incredibly intelligent for her age, Alexis is far more mature than her father, and she enjoys school greatly.

Martha Rodgers, played by Susan Sullivan, is Castle's mother. She lives with Richard and Alexis, helping the former raise the latter. She is free-spirited with a very active actress and socialite.
