Saubon Truesilver

Human Male

Shield of Cormyrr

Saubon has been trained from an early age to serve the crown with absolute loyalty. He bears the honor of wielding the heirloom blade Crimson Fate, the ancestral bastard sword of his family.

Here is how I envision Saubon's development, though in-game events may change the course. I am open to taking a different class if makes sense for the character:

Five levels of Shield of Cormyr, which is a modified Fighter class focused on loyalty and service to a Lord.

Five levels of Kensai prestige class from Complete Warrior. I look forward to wielding both my ancestral blade as well as my Signature Weapon. Too bad they don't stack!

Ten levels of Anointed Knight, prestige class from Exalted deeds. This class continues the theme of improving the player and his weapon. Eventually (if I live) I can make my ancestral weapon intelligent. Reawaken the spirits of ancient warriors!

Feats I am thinking of taking:

Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword

Weapon Focus: Bastard sword

Combat Expertise

Two-Weapon Fighting

Oversized Off-hand weapon

Iron Will

Improved Critical: Bastard Sword

The cool thing about this character will be wielding the ancestral blade in one hand and the signature weapon in the other. Regardless of what the DM does about money, Saubon's blade(s) will be magic. The ancestral weapon's enhancement bonus is based on character level improved with gold piece equivalent offerings of ancient spirits, so it will keep going up no matter what class I take. The signature weapon's enhancement bonus is based on Kensai level and improved by XP sacrifice, so the bonus (from the Kensai class feature, at least) will only go up to 5. My plan is to make both straight enhancement bonus. Once the ancestral weapon's possible bonus gets to 7, I will take the Deep Impact (is this the one I am thinking of?) special ability, which is a +2 bonus that simply gives you +5 damage. The idea behind Saubon's fighting style is simple: hit the other guy as often as possible, and don't let him hit you. Saubon is not a combatant full of tricks. He is simply not going to miss that often. And swinging a bastard sword in each hand is going to add up.

Sounds good. A few things:

Is the blade magical at 1st level? How does that work?

Being that we are not using XP as a penalty, we may need to look as how to balance it other wise (signature weapon).

Deep impact i think is a feat from the CPH, expend psionic focus to make a melee attack vs a touch ac.

The blade is naot magical at first level. There is table with the minimum level required to awaken X amount of enchantment in the blade. This begins at +1 at 4th level. As far as the XP penalty goes, we can just make it a gold piece equivalent, perhaps using the ancestral weapon table as a template or starting point. I'll look into it and make a pitch to you.

And the special ability i was thinking of is Impact, not deep impact.

Saubon Truesilver is like S.W.A.T. The Shields of Cormyr are a step above regular guardsman, but not nearly as well trained as Purple Dragon Knights.
I envision playing Saubon like Keanu from Speed. Lawful Good, but not paladin Lawful Good. His skills in Climb, Jump, Ride and Swim reflect his action oriented outlook. Also, I see his low wisdom as a result of long years of just jumping into things and being okay because of his natural strength and toughness. Definitely a kick-in-the-door, ask questions later kind of guy, but only if the situation warants it. He is Lawful Good. No wanton meyhem and violence. But he won't ever shy away from a fight.

Normally, I hate to low-ball wisdom. too many save or die spells are will saves. but I like how it works with this character. And also I need 15 STR for two weapon, and 13 INT for Combat Expertise, and a higher CHA for Annointed Knight. So there we are. A likeable, strong, tough soldier.

Saubon the Spearhead, they call him. This is a soldier who always lines up in the front rank, who is alwyas the first man through the door.

For Saubon the Spearhead, action is life. The only things that has tempered his 'initiative' are the oaths he has sworn to his house, the Truesilvers, his King, as well as the loyalty he feels for his small group of action-seekers.. He would one day like to be a Purple Dragon Knight, but has the feeling that the vagaries of chance will lead him down a different path. Saubon expects that he, Alice, Lindrom and the others have great things in their future.

What is the Realms equivalent of Heironeus? A God of Honor and Valor and War? Truthfully, Saubon the Spearhead isn't really concerned with religion. If he has any strong religious beliefs, they are generalities. He would know all the rituals and rules of his religion, and practice it faithfully, yet it would not be the center of his world. He would take seriously the taboos of his culture, wether or not he believed or understood them, like the sacred cat in Cormyr. As the game progresses, Saubon will undoubtedly learn much from the two clerics in the party.

Also, looking at height and weight, I think 18 STR and 18 CON would probably come out more in the 310 to 330 range. 6' 10" seems reasonable still. I'm thinking that in a fantasy medieval setting, 18 STR and CON isn't a 2% body fat professional athelete like the MMA or Boxers or something. More likely would be the World's Strongest Man body type, or the Fridge from the 85 bears. look up some internet video of the Fridge and the 85 Bears. A big man that can run and jump and do stuff. Honstly, the half-orc starting out with 20 STR would be more like the Strongest Man type. So yeah, combine the Fridge and Keanu from Speed and throw in some King Arthur, and there you go. 320 pounds of doom. A guy that can march a week without food and fight a battle on a broken leg.

What is the Realms equivalent of Heironeus? A God of Honor and Valor and War?

There are a few gods that are similar.

Helm is the LN god of guardians, protectors, and protection. He is the most common god worshiped by soldiers in Cormyr.

Tyr is the LG god of Justice. He is popular among paladins and judges and is also widely worshiped in Cormyr.

Torm is the LG god of duty, loyalty, obedience, and paladins. He is a subordinate of Tyr although his worship is much less common, though not unheard of, in Cormyr.

The Red Knight is the LN god of strategy, planning, and tactics. She would be very exotic in Cormyr and is usually only worshiped in small numbers in the Western Heartlands west of Cormyr.

Looks like Helm and Torm are good choices for Saubon. Protection and Loyalty. Some common expressions: Helms Hat! By the beard of Torm!

I have been thinking more on the Shields of Cormyr. The Truesilver Secret Family Style is two-handed with bastard swords. What about the other families? I could come up with their styles, if you want, Nick. Or if thats something you want to do, cool. Would all the styles involve the ancestral weapon? I think they should.
