The next thing I decide on will be the final decision, so you won't have to worry about me waffling again. It would help to know what Kev is going to be. Since I am willing to play anything, I agree it is a bonus for his decision. Right now, I am leaning towards Monk. I will be able to keep many things: alignment (LG), background (Truesilver), ancestral weapon (Crimson Fate). I will still be a trained combatant. I will take martial weapon proficiency, so I can then take Zen Archery. I see no reason I couldn't be in the Shields of Cormyr either. I see him as being somewhat haughty; a very composed, elitist type of attitude. While he would be a fighter, he would rely on his skill intead of armor. Also I will take the decisive strike alternate class feature that replaces the flurry of blows with one attack that deals double damage.

"Still between you toast and phil, there is all kinds of bananas shit being thrown at me." I totally understand. I think Toast and I forget sometimes that you are less familiar with the myriad options of 3.5.

So, I think the Monk option works. It feels right to me, which when you get right down to it is the most important detail concerning PC generation. Also, it is not banana shit crazy. the Green Star Adept thing is a little off the beaten path.

So, let me hear back from you nick. How does the monk option look? As far as your background work, it all stays pretty much the same.

Again - go ahead a make what you want, and well take it from there. Also, if you wish to keep your PC options open until later - that of course is fine too.

So, now I am leaning toward the Duskblade/ GSA. Toast, what are those feats that give you maneuvers from Book of Nine Swords? I think they will mesh well with the Duskblade. I will go Spell storing first on the ancestral blade. With the quicken spell Duskblade ability with the spellstrike ability, the spell storing, as well as the maneuver, I should have a pretty meaty sunday punch. Is activating the maneuver a free/immediate/standard action? I wonder if they would work with the spellstrike Duskblade thing... Anyway, I am looking for ideas for feats, since all I have so far is Ancestral weapon and Endurance for GSA.

Nick, I talked with Toast last night about feats for Duskblade. Will conference with you on thursday. I will be kind of a glass cannon. Tenth level of GSA, you lose your CON score because you become a construct. So if I put an 18 in there, I would lose 40 HP!!! Still if I don't have enough hit points to live till then... Should be interesting. I will be able to deal some ridiculous damage, but will not be able to soak as much as a true frontline combatant. Ours will be an interesting party.

Instead of the Fridge type body, I will be much less meaty, since I am going with a 12 CON. The way I see it happing is Saubon grew up training in both martial and arcane disciplines. The strength part of the training which is not very time consuming, combined with his body type, made bulking up easy. But the time he could have spent developing endurance had to be spent studying, sitting around in damp cold libraries. So Saubon is quite strong, but lacks the toughness that more physically focused soldiers develop. He makes up for this, he believes, with the arcane boom-boom of the Duskblade, his family the Truesilver's secret training. The Keanu/Speed persona still stands. They still call him The Spearhead. Sword or Spell, Saubon has an answer, and is always ready to gamma mike. He believes he can deal enough damage in the first few rounds of a stand up fight to beat any opponent. He may maneuver or ambush first, but once Crimson Fate starts flashing, its Charlie's Angels 2, Full Throttle.

Nick: I got sucked into reading a whole mess of opinions about the Green Star Adept online. Now most of it is crap power gamer bullshit, but there were a few pretty good points. The only ones I might consider changing, were I the DM, would be starting the DR at 3 or 5 at first level GSA, and having it progress to 10 (some said have it progree to 15, but that is too high) and changing the 1 HP per hour fast (fast? 1/hour) healing. Regen 1/ min seems good. Since at tenth you will be a construct, if someone lops off your arm, your repair ability should reattach it. Not made of flesh. and 1 per minute makes it totally ineffective in combat. Or 1 per 5 minutes or 1 per 10 minutes. 1 per hour gives you 8 hp back for 8 hours of rest. 1 per ten min gives you 48. or you could do 3 per hour, 24 per night of rest. Losing the CON score doesn't just lose you CON bonus to HD, you lose the 0 to -9 buffer too. For 3/4 BA, half spellcastiing, and losing CON, regular old fast healing 1 wouldn't be over-powered. Toast, you are good at balancing these kind of rules, what do you think?

I will play the class as is. I love the flavor of it. The only reason I bring it up is everything I read about it says its under-powered. The funny thing about what people were saying about it is that the main thing wrong with it was that being a construct sucked. They almost universally said living construct was better. But living constructs aren't immune to death effects! and only partial resistance to critical hits and sneak attack. When the evil clerics at higher level start throwing around Slay Living, and the evil wizards start throwing around finger of death and power word kill, would you rather have a CON score or be immune? HP loss is not the leading killer of PCs.

First off, I believe there is an important concept with the GSA. That is you do not actually become a construct. While for mechanics you become the "construct type" - this is the best way to define this classes abilities in a meta sense.

When you say the class is under-powered, what does that mean? Underpowered compared with what? The best comparison is probably with the PCs proposed for this party. I have a feeling based on your ability to create PCs - that this is not going to be issue in the upcoming game.

Whats wrong with the DR advancement? If you lost your con earlier I could see having a higher DR out of the gates - but since you don't loose it till you cap it at 10th - seems like a realistic build up for the DR.

As far as the healing - remember that in my game, the daily healing(rest) rate will be your con bonus ONLY. So the "fast" healing rate actually looks pretty good to me. I think repair is fine for reattaching all the limbs you WILL be loosing, and I love the idea of you having to carry your head around until you get a chance to repair yourself - lol

I agree with the "construct" concept. Thats why I thought the Living Construct type many people preffered was totally wrong. As far as underpowered, I was referring to other prestige classes of the same type, fighter/ caster. The one that was mentioned most often was Abjurant Champion. The GSA, in comparison, is not as good a fighter or caster. But I hear what you are saying about how it relates to the pary, and I agree the class is just fine as it is. And you are right about the healing too. healing 8 a night would be the equivalent of having 26 CON. And the headless Duskblade would be hilarious!

Considering feats for 6th and up. May not go with the maneuver feats, or maybe just Bonecrusher at 9th. Nick, I might consider Craft Arms and Armor. With the plethora spellcasters and use magic device in the party, my limited spell list won't be a problem, since other people can cast requisite spells for other effects than enhancement bonus, which I can do (Magic weapon is on my spell list.) Other bonuses would be making magic arrows and bolts and armor. I also might consider brew potion. I think the whole party having three potions of True Strike on them at all times would be fantastic. And since other players could cast into the potion, I could make healing and divine potions. Or craft wondrous item, since we saw how useful it was for Goldshanks. I guess I'm looking for whether or not item creation feats will be useful.

If anyone else has any ideas, let me know, for feats at 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th. Improved crit is actually a real strong possibility at 9th. 15-20/ x2... Toast, is there a feat that lets you add a random spell to your spell list?

Toast, is there a feat that lets you add a random spell to your spell list?

Extra Spell Known

Type: General
Sources: Complete Arcane
Tome and Blood

You learn an additional spell.

Prerequisite: Caster level 3rd.
Benefit: You learn one additional spell at any level up to one lower than the highest level of spell you can currently cast. Thus, a 4th-level sorcerer (maximum spell level 2nd) gains a new 0-level or 1st-level spell known with which to expand her repertoire. For classes such as wizard that have more options for learning spells, Extra Spell is generally used to learn a specific spell that the character lacks access to and would be unable to research.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time, you learn a new spell at any level up to one lower than the highest level of spell you can cast.

So, looks like power critical at 6th, improved critical at 9th (I will just have enough base attack, and Bonecrusher at 12th. I considered cleave, but Saubon is more of a one hit/one down kind of fighter, not so much the kill mass groups of foes kind of fighter. I see him as the guy that takes down the hard target (probably right before I die). Brew potion and craft wondrous would be of extremely limited use. Craft arms and armor would be somewhat more useful. But considering Lindrom, Sebastian, Braddock, Alice and I all have 18-20 threat range, Bonecrusher seems really useful. I could take it at 9th instead of improved critical, and instead make Crimson Fate keen. I'll have to look at the chart and see when +3 is available for the ancestral weapon. (+! at 4th, Spell-storing at 7th, and I think 9th or 10th is +3 total). Then maybe 12th will turn into extra spell known, or arms and armor. And Ike, don't feel left out of the 18-20 threat range club. I know you are going to come up with some awesome shit. After all, the cleric really is everyone's best friend.

Power critical at 6th, bonecrusher at 9th. The keen i will get for Crimson Fate either with the ancestral relic power or with, as Toast suggested, Scabbard of keen edges. Upon further review, spell storing has to be my first special quality on Crimson Fate. It will always work, while critting is much less reliable. Also, the spell storing will allow me to wield spells from the many other spellcasters in the party. the +3 enhancement bonus does kick in at 9th, so I can get keen then, or just save up for impact (+5 dmg) when I can get +4 at 11th or 12th.
