Battle:
She tries to avoid battle, but would die before leaving a friend alone is battle. She wields 2 kukri with grace and speed. Not to say she isn't handy with a bow! You will most likely to find her scouting ahead of the group rather than with it. As time goes on I plan on having 2-weapon fighting, combat expertise, Improved Critical, Power Attack, Cleave...you get the idea. Whirling ball of doom ^^

Personality:
Alice loves easily and is very easily loved*. She is kind, caring and playful. Even those closest to her have not seen a dark side to her. She is so light hearted that she does not carry a grudge easily. It has been jokingly said that she has the soul of a halfling, which she does not take offense to oddly enough. Because of her understanding personality and her lack of judgmental attitude she is very easy to confide in.

Looks:
Alice is small even by elven standards. Standing at 4'9" and weighing only 85 pounds it is easy to not notice her in a crowd. She is also younger than most adventuring elves at only 101 years of age. She has just announced she is an adult and changed her name from Lia Amastacia (her child name). Her skin has a slight blue ting as is common with Moon Elves and short dark blue hair. Her eyes are light green with gold and sparkle as much as her personality.

* Alice loves her friends and people close to her, she is not easy/slutty. I know what some of you would say about that comment, you know who you are. LOL

I am unsure of favored enemy yet. Probably Humanoid-Orcs or Humanoid-Goblinoid. I am having a hard time as she is not one to hold a grudge or hate. She probably just knows them well, and where they are most squishy :D

Very Nice.

Consider for your background - your age. In the not too distant past, the Elves formally retreated from their long held home of Corymanthor to their ancestral home of Evermeet. At one time, Corymanthor once encompassed all of the Dalelands and even Corymr. The reasons leading up to the "retreat" is a long story and we can talk about it elsewhere. But, many elves stayed behind in the Dalelands and other places in the realms for various reasons (children, lovers, etc..). It sounds that your character may be best suited to be a younger elf whos parents did not wish to leave their long time home. Obviously your restless and free-spirited nature is what compels you to leave the eleven woods to "Adventure". Just some ideas for you.

One other thing to consider is your knowledge selection. [this is just a suggestion - and if you have a good back ground for this that fine] I generally consider Geography to either be known by someone who is well traveled, or has spent a good amount of time studying various maps of the known world. This could be your character - but as a elven ranger - knowledge Nature may be more appropriate for your PC (at first). Also for the group - it may benefit you to have ranks in nature and someone else in geography (as it will be a useful knowledge set for the party). Consider talking to Phill and Bob about what knowledge sets they plan on taking. I could see either of them with geography.

That said you may want to consider taking ranks in both over time to take maximum advantage of skill synergies. Again - I want you to make the PC you want - this is just a suggestion.

Alice sounds great. Should be an interesting party. Wish the others would get in gear. I can't imagine what Bob's character is going to out like. And at least this time yours and phil's characters will be friends from the get-go! Should make things more friendly.

Nick I think you are right I will have to swap some stuff around. I like advice, I know you would not push me to change something I did not want to.

"Corymanthor once encompassed all of the Dalelands" is that why it said I get knowledge local: Dalelands? Not Corymanthor? Or both? Sorry I was a bit confused on this point.

I will work on my background a little bit too!

Alice is friendly and easy going so it will be pleasant all around I think. She should not be so dramatic.

I talked to Bob today and sent him the link to this (again?) so hopefully we will see something from him on here.

We have plenty of time though I think. I am enjoying Toasts game, but at the same time I am excited about playing Alice as well :)

Yes. Prior to humans, the forest extended from Corymr to the Moonsea. While the wild woods have been largely converted in the dales, it is still forested, outside of the converted pasture lands. Sembia and the eastern dales are the least forested - most industrious - while Cormyr and the western dales are still quite green. Some places are still untouched though - and remnant to the ancient wood (i.e. the elven villages in Deepingdale...)

There is still large undeveloped forest known as "Cormanthor" acting more or less as the northern barrier between the Dalelands and the Moonsea. Geographically it is associated with the Dalelands (at least for the purposes of "regions". Read the Cormanthor entry in the Setting book for a good idea of what lives there now...

So 3E calls the wood "Cormanthor" (i just noticed this) - where 2E spelled it
"Cormanthyr"

I noticed that too and checked it out. Cormanthyr was the name of the elven nation were as Cormanthor is the name of the woods themselves. Since the retreat the nation of Cormanthyr pretty much ceased to exist so the region reverted to the forests name.

A couple things that might be useful for Alice's background.

Nick hasn't said the exact year yet but it sounds like his campaign is going to start around 1369 DR (he can correct me if I'm way off). Cormanthyr used to be a major elven nation but in 714 DR it's capital Myth Drannor was conquered and destroyed by an army of demons. the city's ruins remain a fiend infested blight on the forest and the events sent Cormanthyr into a slow but steady decline. In the year 1344 DR the elves began their retreat to Evermeet and over the next couple decades ninty percent of the elves of Cormanthyr left. In time humans, goblinoids, monsters, and later on drow moved in to fill the gap. This could be motivation for your favored enemy.

Most rangers worship a deity that's somehow connected to nature but really you could choose any god that doesn't conflict with your alignment so you have a lot of choices. If your interested in a more secular ranger the Complete Warrior has a ranger variant that replaces spellcasting with a number of other class abilities.

One thing to remember about FR is that the deities are usually very 'present' and are constantly meddling in the realm of mortals. The second most important event to occur in your life (other than the elven retreat) was the Time of Troubles which you should read about in the Campaign setting (page 264). The reason I mention this is that the fact that because of these events there are not too many atheists in the world. Most people have at least a patron deity who they feel the most aligned with (in a portfolio sense) - how ever most honer several deities as the time and circumstance warrant. Like you may say a prayer to Tymora before a roll of the dice - and you may whisper a prayer of respect to Umberlee before making a over ocean voyage... The amount of focus you put into any one god is entirely a preference.

Thats the key. I think you can look at the "favored enemy" how ever you wish. It could be hate, or just knowing you enemy. I personally like to view it as they enemy you have fought with the most.

So it is possible that you have encountered Humaniod-goblins, or orcs. You may have also dealt with fey in the forest - but I would guess your relations with them are not adversarial. Undead also exist and occasionally turn up in the forest. You may have fought various beasts in you day, so that could include dragons, magical beasts, and abberations. The tough thing with those is justifying really knowing them at first level. It makes more sense if there is a story behind it - something that makes you "hate" them or seek vengeance, and you have studied that creature ever since for the next time you meet...

As far as humans, it is likely that the most trouble you have experienced would be from the Zhents of the north - who are constantly causing problems in the dalelands. Other antagonists are your neighbors to the south in Archdale, and a few other dales to the east.

I'm guessing you are going with the animal companion class feature for the ranger? There are alternate ranger class features for the animal companion, I think. Pure ranger? that is best, unless there is a specific cool thing you are going for in a prestige class.

I want to be a pure ranger! What alternate class feature could make me want to give up my animal companion?
