I like the book, but there are somethings in there that are dead to me. Just ask Toast. As far as ships and shipbuilding, there are some holes, and frankly they seem to have dropped the ball there. I mean why is there an iornclad? I will likely use an old 2E book for ship specifics, though I still may defer to SW for things like battlements and improvements. I would just not worry about it, I am a wizard.

As far as ship to ship (assuming this happens) I think I am going to use a narrative style to resolve combat. If PCs become more proficient in sailing, and want to take the helm, I will add more tactical stuff. This bridge should be fairly far off though, so no real concern here yet. The first 1/3rd of the story arch is terrestrial.

Cool with me. Upon further review, I think I was just feeling out if people were interested in getting deeper into the details. I think the narrative style with a few rolls is a great way to go.

If Saubon were a sailer, his goal in life would be to have a ship with a hull of mithral. How freakin badass would that be? Darkwood is a less preposterous idea, though. The hull would only be ten times more expensive... so 100,000 for a sailing ship, as opposed to 10,000 for a regular one. But the ship would be half as heavy! Imagine how fast and maneouverable that thing would be!
