It was late but thankfully the cafe was still open. Emily was frozen, the cold was something she had learned to tolerate but it still wasn't pleasant. She had been out doing surveillance on a possible vampire. It turned out that he was just a wannabee poser. Even though Emily was beginning to see that not all vampires were cold hearted killers she still didn't understand why people wanted to pretend to be one. She could only assume t had something to do with lack of confidence or a feeling of powerlessness. Maybe pretending to be a strong undead monster...person helped with that? She didn't know what their line of thinking was really but she was glad it had turned out to be a dud because now she was done for the night. She sat at a table near the window cupping the warm mug in her hands, She loved how the heat just spread from her hands straight through her body.

Taking a small sip of the dark liquid Emily started to think about what she would have done if this hadn't turned out to be just a human playing make believe. She wasn't naive enough to think that all vampires were like the one who helped her. If she believed that then she might as well slit her own wrists now and be done with it, because that logic would only get her killed. However it did mean that she was going to have to do a lot more surveillance before she acted. She also knew that she would have to try and avoid group hunts because it would be hard to explain why she might hesitate. If the others caught wind of her change of heart that could be disaster. She wasn't sure how she was going to defend her choice to them, chances were there wouldn't be much discussion about it. If the hunters found out about how Emily felt she might just make their list of prey.

Emily gave her head a shake trying to clear the thoughts away. It was all so stressful to think about right now, all the time actually. Sometimes she wished she had a real friend to talk to about everything that was going on. Emily wasn't sure how much it would help but it would be nice to have one person in her life that she didn't have to lie to. Though it seemed that would just be an unattainable dream. People like Emily didn't have friends, they could afford to have them.

If Melody had the option of being something else other than what she was, she would probably choose to be a full out mechanic. She loved working on cars, and the fact that she was raised by her father without any sort of female upbringing it made sense that she was more of a tomboy than a girlie girl. At a young age she was told that the so-called horror stories about vampires and the like were real and not just made up. Her father was or well is a hunter and if he had a son she wouldn't be in the mess she was in right now. But as it was she was an only child and since her mother had passed on when she was six he really didn't have a choice when it came to training her. She lived her whole life following him around, learning and watching his techniques. For the last couple of years she had been traveling the world hunting down the supernatural, killing them without any kind of second thought.

But when she came to Ravenbrooke, something inside her changed, until she got her anywhere she went she kept her guard up, but now it seemed like those walls were coming down brick by brick. She was working in a garage full of vamps, that in itself was something she would've never done in the past. She was losing it, and what was sad was that she wasn't even really noticing.

Walking into the cafe, the blond headed up to the counter and ordered a very strong coffee. And as she waited for it she noticed the other blond, since she was new here she wasn't really familiar with anyone. But she knew just by looking at her that she was a fellow hunter so once she had the coffee in her hands she went over to her. "Long night?" She asks.

Emily's eyes had moved out the window and away from the cafe that she was sitting in. Of course because of her training she was aware of those around her, but mostly just their presence not really who they were. So when the girl approached her Emily's attention turned before she even spoke a word. Taking the girl in Emily immediately recognized her as a fellow hunter. She thought she had heard the girl being addressed at Melody by Shown once in passing but she wasn't sure. Emily had always tried to avoid the others especially the newer members. At least with the hunters who had been around for a while Emily had a feel for them, this girl was sort of a live wire. Emily would definitely have to keep an eye on the girl before she relaxed too much around her. "You could say that. Spent the night chasing some wannabe goth" She explained with a light shrug of her shoulders.

Taking a long slow sip of her drink Emily took the girl in. She had to size her up, it was something she did with everyone she met, purely out of habit. Though being in their business you had to know that the way someone looked didn't always give you an accurate depiction of how strong they really were. Setting her mug down on the table Emily motioned for the other girl to take a seat with her. "How about you? Have an eventful night?" Emily asked in a cool tone. She wasn't being the most inviting person but then again most hunters weren't. "I'm Emily" She said at least offering the other girl her name. It wasn't like she wouldn't be finding at least that much out about her eventually.

The position Emily had found herself in with the hunters was a very uncomfortable one. She knew the slightest slip up could result in serious trouble for her and her mother simply by association. Even though Emily was angry with her mother for lying to her all these years she still cared about the woman. She was after all the only family that Emily had. Family was an abstract concept to Emily, she wasn't truly sure what it meant to be part of a family. She had never felt like she belonged with the hunters and she knew she had always disappointed her mother. So where did that leave her? A hunter who was in love with a vampire and no longer wanted to kill all of these individuals simply because they were different.

As the girl spoke, Melody took a long drink from her coffee before she nodded lightly. "I swear sometimes I think they just do that to piss everyone off." By everyone she meant the hunters. She couldn't remember how many times she had followed a false lead on a possible vampire. Shifters and Werewolves seemed easier to track down only because there wasn't really any way someone for falsify being one. Vampires were different though, there wasn't really any way you could identify them unless you really could tell the subtle difference in people. But considering all the movies and TV shows and the books that describe those creatures as purely night owls that always were black and go around hating the world it made it harder on the hunters.

When she was motioned to sit she pulled out the chair opposite of the girl and sighed a little bit as she leaned back in her seat. "A bit." She says with a not so humorous laugh. "Melody." Emily, fellow hunter, one that had lived here all her life, one Shawn had probably worked with. She had only been here a short while, but in that time she had seen that man loose his temper a number of times. And it was obvious nobody never liked getting on that end of his personality.

A bit? Well that certainly didn't give Emily anything to go on, though it was obvious the girl was tired which did say something. Hunters were in phenomenal shape and for them to get tired that had to tell you at least a little something about their activities for the night. Though as that thought past through Emily's mind she was reminded that she had no idea about the kind of training this girl had undergone. Surely not all hunters were as demanding as Shawn or hell her mother. Half the time Emily thought Shawn was easier on her then her own mother and that was saying a lot in and of itself because Shawn certainly wasn't easy on anyone. They couldn't afford to take it easy, it was a matter of life and death, simple as that. Or at least that is what both Shawn and her mother had preached but now Emily wondered just how much of that was true.

Emily leaned back in her chair to match the girl opposite of her. "Spend much quality time with Shawn yet?" Emily asked watching what words she choose to use. They were in public after all and so anyone could be listening in. Emily wondered how skilled Melody was, maybe she would have to spar with her sometime. It was always good to get to know the style of fighting that those on you team used. Her team...were the hunters her team? If they weren't then they were the enemy and the same went for knowing their style of fighting. The more you learned about your opponent the better. In a sparring match Emily often let herself lose just so she could gain information on someone and they would leave with little more then what they came in with. Sure that meant she would take her fair share lumps but physical pain was something she had grown accustom to.

Taking her mug back into her hands Emily took another sip before resting it back down on the table. "Are you settling in alright?" Emily asked trying to make the girl feel welcome and comfortable. This wasn't because she cared about the girls comfort in the slightest it was because uncomfortable people didn't open up or share things with you. Emily made it her business to know everyone else's going ons. Information was likely the most powerful tool that she possessed and it was one she was damn good at using.

Her father hadn't really been the easiest guy to get along with. In ways he was much like Shawn was, he always demanded the best out of her. If he didn't get it, he'd work her until she dropped in exhaustion. Shawn seemed like the kind of guy who did that, but also knew that people needed breaks once in a while. Mr. Kendell would have Melody work through the night if he needed to get her whipped. He wouldn't stop until she got a hold on what they were working on. Back in Montana it was pretty much just the two of them, unless they ran into hunters while they were out scouting somewhere. So when it came to fighting it was always against her dad. At least if it dealt with weapons, if it didn't he would take her to a local boxing gym where she'd take on guys bigger than she was.

At her question, her blue gaze moved to the girl and shook her head a little. "No, I've been busy getting my apartment set up and getting to know the place." The times she had been around him she'd learned a lot. It was sort of funny, Shawn was like a predator in ways, he could sense fear coming out of somebody. And when he spotted it he'd chew you out so bad it made people cry sometimes.

"For the most part. Used to small towns, but I don't usually stick around for very long. This place just seems different." She shrugged and then took another sip of her drink.

Melody seemed pretty relaxed about everything which told Emily something about her. This girl had to at least be confident in her own skills if she wasn't worried about working with Shawn. He was demanding and he didn't try to hide that so she was sure Melody had already realized that much about the man. "Fair enough, but as you mentioned it's a small town not too much to get to know." Emily said though they both knew that wasn't exactly true. Often the small towns had lots of secrets about them. The people who lived in small towns tended to be a tighter and closer then in cities. This made breaking into a small town more difficult because no one wanted to role on the neighbour they've known all their life. However the lay out of small towns did not take much getting use to. It was usually simple and easy to memorize.

Moving was something that most hunters were use to. There weren't many who stayed in one place for any length of time. However Ravenbrooke seemed to be an exception, it drew everyone in. It sort of reminded Emily of a venus flytrap in ways. It sucked people in and if they weren't quick enough it could kill them. "Ravenbrooke certainly is a unique place to live." Emily confirmed with a nod of her head. It was true though, you would be hard pressed to find any place else quite like this small town.

"So what is it about our little town that brought you here?" Emily asked trying to figure out the girl's motives for coming to this place. There was the obvious abundance of supernatural activity. Though it was also known that there was already a group of hunters working the area too. so why had Melody decided to come this way. Emily wanted to learn this girl's motives, it might be useless information or it could be something that she could use in future.

A nod of agreement was given to the younger blond before taking another sip of her coffee. When it came to places like Ravenbrooke it didn't take Melody very long to get to know the streets and the places, it was almost like she had a photographic memory. Anywhere she went she knew exactly where she was going only after a few times walking or driving around it. It was the people who she needed to get close enough to so she could make her moves in the right spots at the right times. Over the years she had seen even some of the most skilled hunters mess up because they were too careless.

Another nod, Ravenbrooke did seem unique in every single way. "Honestly I'm surprised anyone can really stand being here with all the crap that goes on." Non-hunters were oblivious sometimes, they could go on forever not knowing what goes on in the shadows. Under full moons and sometimes right underneath their noses. She wondered how many shifters stuck to their second forms to avoid any kind of human to human contact. And how many of those humans that interacted with those said people realized that whatever they were linked to wasn't what it really seemed.

"Change of pace. Scenery maybe. Maybe it was even the lack of a challenge that brought me here. Either way I am now and I don't know if I'll be leaving like I usually do any other place."

Emily couldn't help but smirk as she listened to Melody speak. Yes she indeed sound like a hunter and one who had been around the block a few times. It wasn't going to be easy to get this girl to trust her and open up. That was alright Emily did enjoy a challenge plus she was in no rush. When people were impatient that was when they messed up. Things had to move at a natural pace or else you would reveal your hand. Acting was something all hunters were skilled at and Emily took pride at being among one of the most skilled in that field. She had to be because she wasn't the strongest. Brute strength was over rated in Emily's opinion though.

A small laugh escaped Emily when Melody voiced her opinion about the people living here. "I guess ignorance truly is bless." Emily pointed out with a lopsided smirk on her lips. If the people didn't know about the things going on why wouldn't they stay here. Then again maybe they knew more about what was going on around here then the hunters? After all Emily had just had her eyes opened to these supernatural beings. The people of Ravenbrooke might actually know the real truth about them, know that they aren't all that different from everyone else. Of course that was something Emily would never voice, she couldn't afford to let talk like that be heard by anyone.

Nodding her head again Emily gave Melody another small smile. "Well that's good to hear. It's always good to have more help around here." She said replying as any other hunter would. The more hunters around meant the more killing that could be done and after all that's what they all wanted. All of them except for Emily that was, in reality having Melody stay was a problem. The more hunters that joined the more danger Emily was in and the harder her job was going to be. This was frankly less then ideal.

When it came to her past, and opening up to those around her, it took a lot. Or at least it used to, but over the last few weeks it seemed like everything inside of Melody, everything she had been taught had been slowly dwindling. And it was being so slow that she wasn't even aware that it was happening, she just went about her business just like it was any other day. Eventually it would probably sink in that something was going on. That something just didn't feel right, but for now she was just one of those regular humans who didn't know any better.

A small smirk came to the blonds lips when the other spoke and she nodded again. "Apparently so." Her blue gaze wandered around the small cafe, observing everything around her. There were only a total of two other patrons other than the three who were working. Sitting there she wondered if any of them were suspicious but that thought was quickly put in the back of her mind.

"To be perfectly honest, Ravenbrooke is the only place I've been that has hunters working together. I'm used to working alone, which is why I don't show up at headquarters." It was true, everywhere else she had been she knew hunters of course, but all of them worked alone.

What the girl was saying made sense and it was something that might actually work for Emily. If Melody wasn't use to working with others she might not want to start anytime soon. One less person around headquarters would make things easier for Emily. If she could keep Melody out of the loop she might even be able to get the girl to help her without knowing what she was doing. That however would require Emily to get to know her better and gaining at least a little bit of her trust. Which might be an impossible feat but one worth investigating. "Yeah I could see how that might be a hard transition." She said nodding her head at Melody. "However there is benefits to working with others and draw backs I guess you just have to decide if the benefits out weigh them." Emily said speaking very matter of factly.

How could she convince Melody not to work with the other hunters without making it obvious. This was a plan that could potentially be great if she could figure out how to execute it. "If you ever want to swing by let me know, I'd be happy to show you around." Emily offered, even though there wasn't that much to see it was a friendly offer. Besides it would give Emily a chance to see how Melody could handle herself among the other hunters. You could tell an awful lot about someone by how they interacted with others. Maybe that was why Emily spent so much time observing people.

Emily was extremely to see Melody and Shawn together and her and Amelia. Hmm there was so many angles this could take and Emily wasn't sure which would be her best play yet. "Even if you're not use to working with others, the training facility at headquarters is definitely worth a stop by, just think about it." Emily added off handedly not wanting to pressure the girl into coming by.

Mel worked better when she was alone, even when she was with her father. And maybe the reason she wasn't always at the top of her game around him was because he was like Shawn and he demanded perfection. When she was by herself she could work at her own pace, move when she thought it was time. It wasn't that she was a social person, though that could be part of it. She hadn't lost anyone close to her from a supernatural being, but there was just something comforting in knowing that if you never let yourself get attached to anyone you wouldn't have to go through the burden of losing them. "I prefer to look at it as I never have to worry about getting attached. The fewer people I know, the better." She told her honestly.

When she was told that she'd show her around if she ever wanted to stop by she took another long drink before setting it down on the table. "I'll see what happens. Between working at the garage and hunting at night, doesn't give me a whole lot of time for things."

Training facilities, that was something she was familiar with. "I'll see what I can do." She told her before she leaned forward in her chair, setting her forearms on the table. "And for the record, I'm not a fan of bullshit, so if you decide to do anything funny, you might want to rethink it."

This conversation was becoming very informative. She had learned a lot about Melody in just a few words they had shared so far. She know knew where the girl works and that she was worried about getting close to people. Both very valuable to know and things Emily would not forget. An amused look came to Emily's face as Melody leaned in almost threatening her. She had the respect the girl but she wasn't intimidated either. "Trust me I have enough monsters to be fighting I don't need to stir up shit with other hunters. Call me crazy but one war at a time is all I can handle." She told her simply not at all phased by what had been said. At least Melody was a clever person, though that did mean Emily would have to be careful. By nature hunters were suspicious people, especially ones who always worked alone.

Emily leaned back in her chair and continued to drink her coffee. She figured she'd let Melody direct the conversation for a while so that she didn't spoke the girl away. Emily had to keep in mind that Melody was a bit of a loner and so that was going to mean she'd need to change her approach ever so slightly to fit with the girl. It was fine there was never any rush. If things worked fantastic if they didn't she was no further behind then what she was right then.

The younger blonde was smart; Mel had to give her that one. Usually when she went somewhere that had other hunters lurking about, they’d try to see how well new comers really were. And with her it often ended with one of those said hunters with black eyes or worse if things got really heated between them. Leaning back again she nodded a little bit and took another sip of her coffee. Seeing motion outside the window she looked out and watched for a moment, eying them carefully before she looked back at Emily once more. ”Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” She asks nodding towards the two figures on the other side of the street.

A male and a female, dark haired, the male tall and lanky and the female petite. However the male seemed to have an upper hand on the female, leaning in close almost as though he was getting ready to kiss her. But, Melody knew differently and honestly she thought the vamp was stupid trying to feed in the open. She was proven right when she saw him lean in closer to her neck. Shaking her head a bit she stood from her chair and looked down at Emily. ”You coming?” She asks before she headed out of the café.

Reaching behind her she pulled out the 9mm gun and held it at her side for the time being until she was close enough. ”You’re either a newbie or just really stupid.” As she had thought she had caught him off guard and when he turned to look at her she stopped and smirked a bit. ”Honestly I’d like to know before I shoot you.” She didn’t get an answer though; instead he dropped the girl and headed straight for her. It was clear he wasn’t going to cooperate so lifting the gun she shot him right in the chest.

Emily had also noticed the movement outside and just nodded her head at Mel's inquiry. She groaned inwardly at what was going on. Not because they would have to fight the vampire, this was one of the ones Emily knew deserved what it got. She was just frustrated that their talk had been interrupted. However this development did provide Emily with a new opportunity to study the new hunter. Emily took another quick sip of her coffee before following Mel outside. She watched as the girl pulled a gun, not exactly the approach Emily would have choice as Mel had pointed out they were in the open. Though they had to act quickly, though Emily had always been a hand to hand sort. One might question hand to hand with a vampire wasn't the best idea and Emily would be the first to agree with them. Vampires were faster and stronger though none of that made them smarter. It was Emily's bran that gave her the advantage, she could use their strength and speed against them, though not without her fair share of bruises.

When the gun went off Emily was already in motion. The shot would stun the vampire and give her time to strike. In a quick and fluid motion Emily pulled a wooden stake from her boot and plunged it deep into the vampire's chest. She didn't know if the bullet had been silver or wooden. Chances were Mel had hit the heart but Emily didn't believe in waiting to see. When you came across a vampire like this you couldn't take chances ad so what she did was simply for good measure. Pulling the dagger back Emily took position between the vampire and the girl he had been about to feed on. She seemed to be I shock and frankly Emily couldn't blame her. This wasn't something that everyone was use to dealing with.
