For Shawn, that was an easy answer. He became a hunter, and the Carter’s helped him with that. Lucy’s father had taught him everything he knew, and used his skills as an archer to make him even better. For the last fourteen years, Shawn has been hunting down the creatures that had killed off his family when he was sixteen and every single day he has to live with that memory. The scars on his chest and neck were reminders, the reasons why he did what he did. If you knew him back then you’d know that before all of that happened he was a pretty sweet kid and then when his life changed so did his personality. He was angry all the time, nobody believed what really happened and it pissed him off. He took his anger out by training every waking hour of the day when he wasn’t in school. He went on hunts with Daniel and Lucy and he could honestly say that even with all of the ones that he had killed off thus far he still wasn’t satisfied.<br><br> When you owned something you could choose when to go into work and when you didn’t and for Shawn that was what he liked the best. If he didn’t want the shooting range open he didn’t have to, and usually it was closed whenever he wasn’t there. He wasn’t big on trust so when it came to his employee’s he tended to give them days off without any notice at all. But he also tended to lose his temper at them a lot of they pissed him off. On the days he didn’t work he was either at the warehouse or here at the pub drowning himself in booze just to try to get rid of the haunting memories. And as many times as he had done it he could never get away from it. There were nights when he had nightmares, the images of his parents and siblings torn apart around him, the blood on the floors and the walls, the stinging pain of his own wounds. He kept those scars hidden except the one on his neck which wasn’t easily hid. If you asked him about it you’d most likely get told to fuck off or a tall tale to yank your chain. He hated to talk about it and anyone who brought it up was either ignored or threatened. But as he sat there now he was left alone at the bar, drinking bourbon, it was only one in the afternoon but that was how he was spending it. </div> <p> <div style="background-color:#B4CDCD; width: 390px; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-transform: uppercase; color:#fff; padding-top:0px;"><center>LUCY - BLACK JEANS, BOOTS AND T-SHIRT - BAM BABY </center></div></div></div> <p><center><div style="font-size:7px; font-family:arial; text-align:center">MADE BY <a href=http://z10.invisionfree.com/CAUTIONTOTHEWIND/index.php?showuser=45072>NATB0308</a> OF CAUTION</div> [/dohtml] |

Lucy loved teaching children, and to be quite honest with herself, it was the only thing she ever wanted to do in her life. It just wasn't that simple, though. Lucy had been a hunter since she was eleven years old. Her father had instructed her and her younger brother on how to kill the monsters that lived along side them in Ravenbrooke. After a group of rouge vampires had killed her mother and mortally wounded her father, they had decided that they would take as man of them down as they could. Nowadays, Lucy was regretting getting caught up in the mess, but she would carry on the Carter legacy until she felt like her father would be proud of her. More often than not, she wondered what her life would have been like if she had never known that supernatural creatures existed, and if her mother had never been killed. Maybe then her family could have been normal. <br><br> Knowing Shawn since she was just a kid, she was one of the first people to find out about the attack on his family. She had been the one who had alerted her dad, and finally, after a few years of trying to keep him out of the loop, Jacob Carter pulled the boy in. It wasn't long before he was taking the boy on raids with him and his children. <br><br> Normally, Lucy wouldn't be caught dead in a pub. She wasn't much of a drinker, and she'd usually be up at the school, teaching lessons right about now. However, they had had a field trip earlier in the day, and after coming back to the school, she had allowed her class to be released early. The only reason why she was in here was to check up on Shawn. He was one of her best friends, hands down. If he ever needed anything, she would never hesitate to help him out. Shawn was like the second, older brother she didn't have. Walking in, she looked around for a moment and when she spotted him, she let out a soft sigh, shaking her head a bit. Lucy didn't dare try to tell Shawn what to do, but she did worry about him all the time. He was important to her, so therefore, his health was just as important. <br><br> "You're going to give yourself liver cancer if you keep sucking that up like water," She spoke softly and sank down on the stool next to her old friend. Lucy frowned a little as she placed her purse on her lap. "What are you doing here at one in the afternoon?"</div></center> </div> </TD></TABLE></div><a href="http://forums.athousandfireflies.com/index.php?showuser=800"><div style="width: 300px; text-align: center; font-family: arial; font-size: 7px; text-trasform: uppercase;">@BREE</div></a>[/dohtml] |

Any time he heard it coming out of someone's mouth he had to snort just because they really didn't know the meaning of the word. If they only knew, things would be a little bit better in life. But as it was some people chose to be stupid.<br><br> Drinking may not be the best way to get rid of getting rid of memories for most people. But it was good enough for Shawn, though it didn't really matter how much alcohol he consumed he couldn't seem to get away from them. It helped for a little while and then they'd come flooding back. It was a never ending battle and he wasn't winning. After that night he had nightmares for months, he relived that night over and over in his head and he couldn't get rid of them. And when he started training they went away for a while before popping up again. After he made his first kill they vanished completely.<br><br> But, just when he had thought that those nightmares were gone for good they started popping back up again like wild flowers. He woke up in a cold sweat, breathing hard and when he was cooled off enough he wasn't able to sleep so he just stayed up and did something around the house. Amelia didn't know anything about all of this of course, and that was how he wanted it to stay.<br><br> Hearing a voice beside him he looked over to see Lucy sitting beside him on the stool and he took another sip before he spoke. "Believe me, I'd probably have better luck getting murdered by a monster than I do, drinking." He told her honestly before she asked her question. "Could ask you the same thing. Don't you have class?" He asked. </div> <p> <div style="background-color:#B4CDCD; width: 390px; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-transform: uppercase; color:#fff; padding-top:0px;"><center>LUCY - BLACK JEANS, BOOTS AND T-SHIRT - BAM BABY </center></div></div></div> <p><center><div style="font-size:7px; font-family:arial; text-align:center">MADE BY <a href=http://z10.invisionfree.com/CAUTIONTOTHEWIND/index.php?showuser=45072>NATB0308</a> OF CAUTION</div> [/dohtml] |

Given the fact that they lived in a place where (easily) half of the population were supernaturals, it was more likely he'd die from an attack than from cancer. She smiled slightly as he poked back at her and then shook her head. "No. we had a field trip today and since the kids were such angels, I sent them home early." Her mouth quirked to the side in amusement. As the bartender passed in front of her, she requested a glass of water. The male who generally worked the place had stopped giving her weird looks at her requests and just gave her what she asked for. <br><br> As she sat there beside him, she couldn't help but look him over. Shawn was looking a little rough around the edges. Truth was, he always looked like that. Lucy couldn't remember the last time he had seemed to actually relax and enjoy what was going on around him. Hesitating for only a moment, she rested her hand lightly on his arm. "You okay?" She pitched her voice low so that she could be sure he was the only one to hear her. She knew how some people liked to spread stuff around and if they ever caught wind that she was even remotely worried about Shawn people could probably start digging. She was tempted to ask about his nightmares but wasn't sure if that was her place. Yeah, they had been friends for a long time but Lucy wasn't sure how close he really considered them. Besides, she didn't like prying into anyone's business, so she wouldn't try too hard. <br><br> Casually, she sipped on her water and let her eyes roman around the bar. She was always keeping surveillance of what was going on around her. You could never be too careful. When she felt the familiar prick of the small hairs on her arms standing up, she could tell that someone was watching her. Unable to control it, her body gave a little shiver and she snuck a glance around, grimacing when she noticed a big burly guy watching her. Lucy had lost her fear of most men. Unless they had fangs or howled at the moon at night, she wasn't too worried. She could deal with cocky human males, although she didn't much like to. </div></center> </div> </TD></TABLE></div><a href="http://forums.athousandfireflies.com/index.php?showuser=800"><div style="width: 300px; text-align: center; font-family: arial; font-size: 7px; text-trasform: uppercase;">@BREE</div></a>[/dohtml] |

However you’d be lucky to see them most times. He hardly let anyone in except for Lucy. She was one the very few people who knew him the way he had once been and she had been there when he became the way he was now. He took another sip of his bourbon as she spoke about releasing the kids early after they had their field trip. He nodded lightly and looked at her once more for a moment. ”Sounds like a blast.” he told her, it was a bit sarcastic of course, but he knew she wouldn’t be offended by it because that was just how he was with everyone.<br><br> She was the only person who knew the nightmares he had since the night of the attack, but any time they were together she never bothered to ask him about it because chances were he wouldn’t tell her anyway. Feeling her hand on his arm he listened to her and then shook his head a little bit. ”You’d think over the years, after drowning yourself in booze that the memories would go away.” he says to her before finishing off his drink and asking for another. ”It’s like they want to taunt me. I can’t run from ‘em.” He shook his head again and when he got a fresh drink he took another sip again and stood from his spot, picking up his glass he looked at her and then headed to a secluded table at the far side of the room. <br><br> When he sat down in the booth he leaned back and looked over at the guy she had been looking at earlier. It didn’t take much for the other to look away and when he did he looked back at Lucy once more. ”What have you been up to Luce?” He asks. </div> <p> <div style="background-color:#B4CDCD; width: 390px; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-transform: uppercase; color:#fff; padding-top:0px;"><center>LUCY - BLACK JEANS, BOOTS AND T-SHIRT - BAM BABY </center></div></div></div> <p><center><div style="font-size:7px; font-family:arial; text-align:center">MADE BY <a href=http://z10.invisionfree.com/CAUTIONTOTHEWIND/index.php?showuser=45072>NATB0308</a> OF CAUTION</div> [/dohtml] |
