Really can't say what is my favorite cartoon, but I remember laughing my ass off at several Road Runner cartoons. The scene everyone remembers is Beaky Buzzard bringing home a baby bumblebee, mainly for the song he sings. Funny thing about that is, years ago I worked with someone who's last name was Heap, and that is what he was, a big heap. He would fall asleep standing up, and seemed to have no brain function. One day I was sitting in the swing room with another worker, and when Heap walked by, the person I was sitting with started slowly singing, "Ba doop a doop a doop a doop a doop, doop a doop a doop a doop a doop." Well, I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. After that, every day we would have a duet singing it when we started work, and sometimes others would join us. Needless to say, I worked for the Postal Service.
Just wondering, does any collection have any of the Inky, the Jungle Boy cartoons?
Here is a cartoon I remember seeing many years ago, and I wonder if anyone knows the title, and is it available? I believe it is an older cartoon, probably in black and white, and in the start the lead character runs away from home in the middle of the night, and becomes a boxer. In the match, he is getting the crap beaten out of him, and his mother is listening to it on the radio, and she goes into the arena, and beats up the other boxer

Four of the five Inki cartoons were scattered through the Golden Age of Looney Tunes laserdisc sets. The fifth, "Caveman Inki" was not owned by Turner at the time, but was being shown on TV as late as 1991 when I taped it - from Nickelodeon, I think. None have made it to DVD yet.

"The Country Mouse," Warner Bros. 1935. Made in two-strip Technicolor, actually. This one was also on one of the GAOLT sets.

I get requests for Inky cartoons all the time; one of 'em is apparently in the public domain, because Inky and the Minah Bird is on a couple of different DVDs, but neither of 'em are "official" Warners.

"One Froggy Evening" and Superman's "Mad Scientist" are my favorites.
Honorable mentions to some of the season one offering of the Animated Batman series starring Kevin Conroy as Batman. Very well-written, action-packed stories.

More: The original Gigantor and 8-Man Japanese tv shows from the 60s.

Good topic, lets keep it going. I mostly love the cartoons from the 1930's. Porky Pig's are my favorites. Then other Warners and Popeye's.
For Christmas my wife got me Mickey Mouse in Black & White, vol 1 and my son & daughter got me vol 2. What a collection. I appreciate Mickey more than I did with his adventure cartoons being a lot more fun than his singing or playing musical instruments ones. And Minnie! What a drag -- good thing he never married her.
Favorites:
A Lad In Bagdad - '38, Egghead
You Ought To Be In Pictures - '40, Porky
Porky's Double Trouble - '38
The Dog Napper - '34, M. Mouse
Porky's Hare Hunt - '38
Axe Me Another - '34, Popeye
Buddy's Pony Express - '35
Porky's Building - '38
A Dream Walking - '35, Popeye
Stratos Fear - '33, Willie Whopper
Two-Gun Mickey - '35
Mickey's Mechanical Man - '33
Trail Mix-Up - '92, Roger Rabbit

So, anybody regularly watch short cartoons any more?

I know I do.

The current lineup includes:

FNF:
Chronological Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies (we're up to '37 or '38) taken from all the official Warners releases, DVD and Blu-ray, including the bonus cartoons as extras on various movie discs. Watch as part of every show.
Our second cartoon rotates between chronological Popeye (up to 1941) and whatever I feel like, usually Mr. Magoo, Betty Boop, or some odd cartoon I saw somewhere or other and thought the gang would like.

Strange Science Cinema:
Watch three Paramount cartoons every Saturday, including Popeye (1950s model, from VCI's "Famous Studios" collection), Casper (from Shout!'s Complete Casper three-disc set) and Herman and Katnip (from the complete set). Rather depressing.

Disney:
As part of the ongoing True-Life Adventures and Tomorrowland watchings, I watch a B&W chronological Mickey Mouse, a color chronological Donald Duck, and a Silly Symphonies (they weren't released chronologically).

Forbidden Hollywood: When I watch one of those, I watch a 1930s cartoon, generally something goofy like an Aesop's or Al Falfa or Cubby Bear or something (thank you, Thunderbean).

I've worked my way all through the UPA set, and intend to get around to the complete Woody Woodpecker set someday.

Anybody else regularly watch cartoons?

Yes, of course. But in terms of unwatched material, not much remains on the schedule apart from a couple of Thunderbean collections. Big studio new releases have, shall we say, slacked off.

Wanted to ask you about the "complete Woody Woodpecker", though.

Was such a thing ever issued? The 2 or 3 Universal Woody DVD collections I have were pretty comprehensive, but not by any means complete.

Really? I was under the impression that the two of 'em together equaled completeness, but I've been under impressions falsely before. I know they had a consortium of bonus cartoons that were not complete in their runs, but I thought all the Woodys were on there. Hang on, let me check that so-called "Internet" and get back to you...

Okay, I'm back - those two sets from Universal appear to contain ALL the theatrical Woodys up through 1958. So there you go.

I just got all three of those Depatie-Freleng sets, too. As a rule, I don't watch cartoons in a group unless they're accompanied by a feature. I'm not one for hitting "play all" and watching cartoons. Hence so many sets I still have unwatched. Trying to live long enough to get to them. Not easy when I have to rewatch The Black Castle and The Big Chase to satisfy you people.

Oh, and to get back on topic too - (the first topic) - I like to show Bob's Birthday to people. It's a Canadian cartoon and hilarious and people love it. I also show Duck Amuck and Bimbo's Initiation to newbies.

Yeah, through 1958 jives with my records, which I checked while you were gone. Sorry if I inadvertently wasted your time.

Good luck with DePatie-Freleng. I think they're God-awful.
