Kathryn Bigelow, for THE HURT LOCKER (2009), becoming just the fourth woman nominated, and first female winner of the award. In what year did the Academy start honouring Makeup and Hairstyling in their own category? Edited by The Batman, Sep 17 2014, 09:47 AM.

Actually, it was 1981. The category was created after outcry over the fact the extraordinary makeup of THE ELEPHANT MAN could not be nominated. Prior to that, makeup achievements only received "honorary" Oscars. In 1929 Mary Pickford won Best Actress for Coquette. Who has hosted the Oscar ceremony the most? |

You are correct. No surprise here, Bob Hope is the reigning champ, hosting the show 18 different times between 1939 and 1977. Billy Crystal is the next runner up, having hosted eight times. Johnny Carson did it five times, Jack Lemmon and Whoopi Goldberg did it four times, and David Niven hosted the Oscars three times. You forgot to ask a question, unless you count your question answer as a question. |

That was a guess. I didn't wanna axe a question unless I was right. What was the second movie in color to win Best Pucture? |

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, in 1951, the first being GONE WITH THE WIND (1939). Only four performers have starred in three Best Picture-nominated films in the same year. Name the performers and the films. |

I'm glad somebody else answered that; I didn't understand the question, too complicated for my pea-shaped mind. I think it was Hamlet, 1949, but I'm not sure so I'm not gonna post a question yet in case I ain't. Isn't, sorry. |

You thought right. The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) was the first non-US (Hollywood) made film to both earn a Best Picture nomination, and win an Oscar of any sort (Best Actor for Charles Laughton, in this case). But it was Laurence Olivier's Hamlet (1948) that became the first non-Hollywood (foreign-made) film to win Best Picture; it was financed and filmed in England. Your question? |

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that somebody or other boycotted the Oscars that year because a "foreign film" was the favorite. Let's get off Oscars for once... Hmmmm.... Okay, ready? Which Elvis Presley film sold the most soundtrack albums? |

I'm guessing here but would say "Blue Hawaii". And if it ain't that one, it's "Viva Las Vegas". What was Elvis' first hit single after getting out of the Army? Edited by JazzGuyy, Sep 18 2014, 10:44 AM.

You only get one guess, but Blue Hawaii is right. And I don't know. I hope it wasn't "It's Now or Never". He needed to come out with a rock song. |
