Well, I saw Woody Allen’s “Match Point” last nite and enjoyed it quite a bit. The cynical would label it as Woody does Hitchcock, I suppose. The plot (by Woody) seems to be equal parts “An American Tragedy” & “Dial M for Murder”. Oh yes, said plot has a couple of holes so big you could drive a (pick your favorite large vehicle) through. On the other hand, “Vertigo” has a plot that is totally unbelievable and it’s truly a classic!!

There isn’t one sympathetic character in the whole damn movie, but that didn’t alter my enjoyment one bit (maybe it enhanced it).

Anyway, if you simply enjoy watching/hearing a virtuoso display his/her virtuosity, whether it’s Art Tatum, Michael Jordan or Woody Allen, I think you’ll enjoy this!!

This doesn't open in my city for a couple of weeks yet, but I seriously can't wait to see it. I love Woody Allen.

Thanks for the review, Mort. I will definitely see this one, when it comes out on disc.

When Woody Allen is on, he's on.

I just finished watching this not more then half an hour ago and liked it. I do agree that it is Noirish and Hitchcockian in its theme, I also think that Woody Allen's directing could compare to the delights that Alfred Hitchcock gave us years ago.

Woody seems to have found his groove again if his last few pictures are any indication.

Well, not everyone liked MATCH POINT. Film critic Ken Hanke heaped contumely on me for my positive take on the film.

Someone else (on the same board) noted that the main character in the subject film bore a strong resemblance to Patricia Highsmith's fictional Tom Ripley. I subsequently saw a film featuring Mr. Ripley and would have to acknowledge that both characters seem to have the same moral compass.

Highsmith provided the novel for one of my favorite Hitchcock films, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN.

I think he's in a good place again as well. Cassandra's Dream is also extremely good, nearly as good as Match Point, and Vicky Christina Barcelona is absolutely beautiful to look at, though I must admit that I didn't like it as well as a lot of folks did.

Even his latest, Whatever Works, is a pleasant, funny film.
