Your roving reporter, L. Gravy here, reporting live from the Monogram Week Grand Banquet and Get Acquainted Dinner Dance... the excitement is in the air like onions at a Subway sandwich jernt, because the judges are about to announce the winner of the Ms. Monogram 2006 contest... the stage is full of lovely young ladies, only one of whom will wear the fabled Ms. Monogram tiara for the next 12 months... Whoops, gotta go, they're calling me to come sing "Here she comes, Ms. Monogram"... I'll post the winner and some pictures in the morning...

Please visit In The Balcony for stories and pictures from last night's Grand Banquet, including the lovely starlet who was crowned Ms. Monogram 2006!

In the spirit of Monogram Week and the Bowery Boys, I offer the following story:

Waite Hoyt was an important pitcher for the Yankees in the 20’s. At some point he went down on a play and the announcer reportedly uttered: “Hert’s hoit!”

(Read this years ago in the NYT. And if you don’t find it funny, sorry, I’ve been working a lot.)

GREAT review in today's In The Balcony of IRISH LUCK w/Mantan Moreland & Frankie Darro.
Really enjoyed it.
And thanks for including the handy reference guide to the titles in the Mantan/Frankie series:
Irish Luck (1939)
Chasing Trouble (1940)
On the Spot (1940)
Laughing at Danger (1940)
Up in the Air (1940)
You’re Out of Luck (1941)
The Gang’s All Here (1941)
Let’s Go Collegiate (1941)

Some of these titles also feature Keye Luke.

Thank YOU. And wouldn't it be great if we got a boxed set of those things? I'm telling you, more people should be celebrating the great talent of Mantan Moreland, who was much funnier than the Three Stooges or Abbott & Costello in my opinion.

When Sgt. King visited, he took several towels and much of my silverware with him, but he DID leave a DVD full of Monogram trailers, and that's what gets reviewed today at www.inthebalcony.com. So please feel free to visit.

I got a nice note: Ms. Monogram 2006 was very pleased with the write-up we gave her, and enjoyed reading those Monogram-like lines of dialog written for her.

Monogram Week has been a lot of work, but it's also been a lot of fun, and I *do* think it's been the best darned Monogram Week ever.

I read once, somewhere, that when Shemp died, Moe wanted to replace him with Mantan. Apocryphal or not, I’m sure glad it never came to be. Mantan would have had to dumb down his act significantly. And, can you imagine Moe slapping him around? Yuccchhh!!

p.s. Love the idea of the Darro/Moreland boxed set. Hmmm, believe that Alpha already has two or three of these available. Wonder what it would take to convince them to release more!!

We're gonna be closing down the Monogram board until next year, folks, so I've moved all the reviews over to their respective places in the hallowed halls of In The Balcony. I'll leave the rest of the Monogram mirth up for a couple of days so nobody gets confused. Thanks to everybody for participating!
