I have heard that it is in the script stage and it has been officially re-titled "THE GHOST WHO WALKS". I also heard there is going to be a Mandrake the Magician film, which will actually come out first, but there was no listing for a MTM movie. There was one, however, for The Phantom (2005). Should be interesting. |

To clarify, though, I understand that this is NOT a sequel to the Zane version, but a new version of The Phantom. |

I remember watching the Billy Zane version some years back, and not liking it too much (other than his costume) same goes for the Shadow with Alec Baldwin is my memory escaping me or were they that bad? and if this is a new rendering of the legend of the Phantom then I hope it will have a dark edge to it in a Frank Miller sort of way. |

I thought that The Phantom was good, comic-booky type of fun, but that Zane was miscast. I thought The Shadow was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen. |

I thought THE PHANTOM was pretty good, too. The only real problem for me was Treat Williams played the villain, Xander Drax, too campy and over-the-top. THE SHADOW was a bit of a mess and a real missed opportunity. |

Thanks LG and Batman, you have both jogged my memory and in fact The Phantom was actually done pretty well in a comic book sort of way and I believe my judgement of the film was skewed by the casting of Billy Zane Now the shadow on the other hand...............Ooooo my head hurts thinking about it |

Actually I thought Zane looked pretty good as the Phantom. The film had some fatal flaws, though - weak story, lame Singh Pirates and one of the hammiest, over-the-top villainous performances by Treat Williams. It's like he was acting in the 60s Batman tv show. Didn't care much for the Director either. Best things in the film - the jungle scenes, Patrick MacGoohan as the Phantom's dad, Kristy Swanson and Catherine Zeta Jones as bodacious babes. Some action, but not enough. |

I thought the stunt man made a much better Phantom than Billy Zane. According to IMDB, The Ghost Who Walks is scheduled for 2009. If the writer's strike continues this could get pushed to 2010 or 2011. |

Oh, like everyone who's ever played Lex Luthor in the MOVIES, hasn't?? The only straight villlainous Luthor we can really get most times is Michael Rosenbaum's version on Smallville. Lyle Talbot played him like a half-witted mad scientist--which he WAS, actually in the comics of THAT time. Gene Hackman made him more as a silly Joker-like figure with visions of grandeur and vanity. And Kevin Spacey just went kind of halfway between Hackman and Rosenbaum in Superman Returns. He was good...................BUT...there was something lacking. I really didn't get a sense of villainy with him which is strange due to all the totally EVIL characters he's played before. Treat Williams' villain Drax, in the Phantom, was actually more like the Joker--maybe HE should've played the part in Keaton's Batman, rather than Nicholson. And as far as The Shadow movie went.........................I saw a lot of die-hard Shadow fans walking out of that one when I went to it at a comic-con. I was sorry I stayed to watch the whole thing, myself, but my feet were stuck to the floor by some weeks old bubble gum and it took me till the end of the film to get loose. Hopefully the NEW Shadow film coming out --whenever- is going to be much more to the pulp hero than the radio character..................lets hope.

Don't know about a Phantom sequel but Sam Raimi (Spiderman) has his name attached with another shot with "THE SHADOW" in 2009 then again this may be another way out fan boy rumor.... |

So, 10 years later, there has been no Phantom sequel or reboot and nothing is listed as even rumoured on IMDb. Looks like the Ghost won't be walking anywhere for a while. |

Apparently YouTube has the whole movie in 9 minute segments. I think I'll stick to the Tom Tyler serial. |

Yeah, that was the 2009 mini-series, a decent effort, but not the reboot I would want. Worth a watch, though. |
