I remember my first laserdisc (The Wizard of Oz) and VHS tape (It's a Wonderful Life), too. Interestingly, I'm not sure what my first Blu-ray was; I could several in the mail before I could play any of them. It might've been The Green Hornet Strikes Again or The Green Archer from Restored Serials, or maybe From Russia with Live, that strikes a chord, too.

Amazing you can remember. I can't remember my first DVD. If anyone is curious about my collection, send me a PM and I'll provide a link to view it with.

The first movie I recorded on VHS was The Blue Lagoon. The first VHS tape I bought was Superman. Not sure what the first RCA style video disc I bought was. The first DVD I bought was the movie My Favorite Martian and the first Blu-Ray was The Last Starfighter.

The first thing I recorded on VHS (to test out the vcr) was a bit of Paint Along With Nancy.

Among the first movies I taped were the colour Christopher Columbus starring Fredric March and Bonnie Prince Charlie starring David Niven also in colour - afternoon movies on TV while I was at work.

The first VHS I bought was the 'colorized' Angel and the Bad Man starring Johm Wayne - 'sbetter in b&w!

I do remember my first Laserdisc: The Adventures of Robin Hood on a Criterion LD. Never bought much in the way of VHS tapes. I thought the picture quality was too poor. I don't remember my first Blu-Ray either.

The day after getting my VHS player, I went through a store's $10 public domain tapes, and got Night of the Living Dead and Abbott & Costello's Jack in the Beanstock.

The first CD I ever bought, I also remember. With my player (a Christmas gift) my wife gave me The Beatles Past Masters I & II and the Beach Boys Summer Days (and Summer Nights!), a truncated CD lacking a couple of songs from the album. I went to the store and got Sgt. Pepper on CD and the only other Beach Boys CD available, their Christmas album!

Interesting! Just saw the Vampire Lovers not too long ago.

When I was a kid, I had a box full of those 8mm films, including Frankenstein, Captain Marvel, Trog, Abbott & Costello meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and others.

My first 8mm was a condensed version of the first Batman serial. First 16mm film was Keaton's Cops. My first VHS tape was Perils of Nyoka, a boot I bought from Cline. First DVD was The Indian Tomb, the silent version written by Fritz Lang and directed by Joe May. First Blu-Ray was The Wizard of Oz. The BEST Blu I have is Hugo. I got the 3 disc set -- it's interesting to compare versions, and the movie gets better every time I watch it. It's fun to see what a good director can do with hi-def and 3-D, and even the dreaded CGI.

Saw The Vampire Lovers first run in an upper East Side theater and loved it.

I never had any 8mms. The only one I ever saw was given to some kids down the street for Christmas. It was The Headless Horseman. All of us neighborhood kids used to go over there and watch this wonder of modern technology on a sheet in their basement over and over again. This would've been in the mid '40s.
Not plane, nor bird, nor even frog. It's just little ol' me...

I saw The Headless Ghost starring Richard Lyon (Ben & Bebe's boy) at the Hampton Cinema, Hythe when I was about 10 - I was really nervous before it started cos I was on my own and the cinema was practically deserted.

In Standard 8 50' I also had the naughty Jane On A Train and my mum found it! :o

And I had the 200' The Undead, an episode of Batman, Lady Godiva (just ordered that from Amazon - I think those 200' b&w movies were 69/6 (£3.99) in 1966 and the Technicolor DVD of Godiva is under a fiver!).

I've still got Teenage Werewolf and a plastic viewer with a plastic handle to turn the film, lol!

My first DVD was Double Indemnity. I wanted Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep but they weren't released yet-- and the kid at the Suncoast I was at looked at me blankly when I asked if either was available.

And I went out with my extra camera equipment (I was a boy news photographer) and pawned it and a bike to buy my first VHS machine which I immediately got when my local comic book store (this was probably 1982) had a handmade sign up saying they had VHS copies of great old serials like Captain Marvel and (wait for it) Batman!
I had to see it and I loved every minute of it. Thank god I didn't listen to the store owner (he was selling these bootlegs for about $90 for two tapes and I was glad to pay it) who tried to talk me out of ordering the '43 Batman and get the '49 because he claimed it was SO much better.

In 1976 a JVC VHS video recorder cost about £730.

In 1978 you could rent one from Radio Rentals for £18 a month, so I did.

A blank E180 tape cost £15 and pre-recorded tapes like The Blood-Spattered Bride or The James Bond Trailers cost about £39.99!

The first serial I saw on sale on VHS tape was the Batman & Robin (1949) boxset (2 tapes) costing £15 around Christmas 1990 - it was shown on TV, but I really regretted not buying it!

The first serial on DVD I read about on alt.movies.serials was Zorro's Black Whip/The Lone Ranger which I bought!

So did a famous Balconeer - it was his first English DVD purchase! :o

Was that me? The DVD set was certainly ONE of the first British DVDs I purchased.

The first serial ever put on DVD was Roan's The Three Musketeers. I had that, too.

The first serial I had on VHS was Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, followed by Flash Gordon ("Fiery Planet") on four tapes, sold separately, and a really lousy "Film Classics" print of Zorro's Fighting Legion in a big, puffy box. We paid $60 for the Republic 2-tape set of Captain Marvel.
