Was that me? The DVD set was certainly ONE of the first British DVDs I purchased.

The first serial ever put on DVD was Roan's The Three Musketeers. I had that, too.

The first serial I had on VHS was Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, followed by Flash Gordon ("Fiery Planet") on four tapes, sold separately, and a really lousy "Film Classics" print of Zorro's Fighting Legion in a big, puffy box. We paid $60 for the Republic 2-tape set of Captain Marvel.

My first serial import was ZORRO'S BLACK WHIP from England, but my
first imports were the first Laurel & Hardy films from Britain, and
later when the German discs were available I snapped up all of 'em.

It may have bin you! :D

I was very interested in Zorro's Black Whip because I saw it c/w Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe at the Classic Cinema in Southampton circa 1973 on an all-night show!

Linda Stirling was purtier than Larry 'Buster' Crabbe, IMHO, and I was keen to have another gander!

I've found loads of bargains online and within stores. I'm enjoying watching them and have certainly found the quality much better then DVDs.

No question about that, and as you say, there are bargains to be had. I just try to get movies I don't already have, and I already have too many to watch in my lifetime. You're a lot younger.

I have no doubt most if not all of my seen and unseen stuff will wind up in a landfill somewhere. That goes for the heard and unheard OTR stuff too.

Leave us not be so pessimistic.

I prefer to think that OTR and old movies, being the high-point of civilization to date, will survive long after all of us, at least until those flesh-eating zombies, or perhaps the ebola virus, finally devour the rest of humanity.

And if any of that happens, hey! we gave it our best shot and had a great time trying to keep it alive. It's up to our successors, and if they're too dumb, there's noting we can do about it. So keep watching and listening, guys!

Tell it, Frank. I did what I could to keep the silents alive, and they're a heck of a lot more alive than they were in the Sixties, when I started, so sure, you can make a difference. Just turn kids on to old stuff in general. It gives them perspective.

In what way?

Added this week: West Side Story (3-disc set with a book), The Girl Hunters (Mickey Spillane), and the Vincent Price II boxed set of 7 films. Total cost to me: zip, zero, nada. So hush.
