I liked Dance, Girl, Dance. It was the first picture I've seen directed by Dorothy Arzner, and left me wanting more. There's much ado about its feminism, but the review in the book Cult Films had to do a little misquoting to make that point. Good score, Gravy. O'Hara's beautiful as they come.

I see Chess in Concert came out on dvd.

With lyrics by Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita) and music by the male half of ABBA, this is one powerhouse production. Ostensibly about a world chess championship between a cocky American and troubled Soviet set in 1969, many issues are addressed such as East-West spy activities, love, betrayal, revenge, pride, honor, merchandising, media coverage and much more. First-class music and performances. Far better than the tepid version that was on Broadway. This version was taped last year at the Royal Albert Hall with a full orchestra.

I got my first selection from the Warner Brothers Archive Collection...

Westbound

This is the last western to be released that had Budd Boetticher working with lead actor Randolph Scott so I now have all 7 of them. There are no extras on this, but a nice print.

I just brought the two disc set of Gomorrah. An Italian language film with English subtitles, it chronicles the life inside an Italian Mafia Family.

If you liked Romanzo Criminale, then you'll love this one.

My Ali Baba came yesterday and I popped it right into the machine. It's still as much fun as you can have sitting up.
