I like Jeff's standup act...I just didn't like his show. Yes, I liked the actress who played his wife, too. When it went into a second season, though, they made major changes including adding another kid and hiring a different actress to play his wife.

I had to take one of my DVDs, The Family Stone, back to the store because it was full frame instead of widescreen. Then I went to Blockbuster and got some DVDs that were on sale:

The Family Stone
Fun With Dick and Jane
The Cat's Meow
Must Love Dogs
I Heart Huckabees
The Legend of Zorro

This week I've got the Criterion A Canterbury Tale coming in, plus the Will Rogers boxed set.

I also have a Criterion coming in, Young Mr. Lincoln (I thought it might have come in last week but it didn't) along with the latest collection (Vol. 6) of The Rifleman. I'll probably also get Season 7 of Three's Company and I think the first season of Rawhide comes out Tuesday, right? I haven't ordered it but may pick it up, nonetheless.

Hey LG, I just got those two myself in Saturday's mail. The Will Rogers set looks really interesting.

The two days after I got the above, I then received the 7th season of Three's Company and the latest box set (the 6th) of The Rifleman.

Today I went to the store and picked up the first season of Rawhide. A few minutes after getting back home, the UPS man came by with a package that contained seasons 2-4 of I Love Lucy. I ordered those because the price of these sets (which had been in the $42 to $45 range) had come down to $29.99 each. I figured I'd better buy them before the prices went back up so I did...and I now have all 6 seasons of this classic series.

I'm a sucker for an invisible man movie. So even though I normally avoid sequels where I don't even remember it having been in theaters and with a completely different cast I took a chance on Hollow Man II. I was pleasantly surprised. The story is a decent thriller. The special effects are more than adequate to service the story. Where the original was all about digital effects the sequel uses practical effects where ever possible. So you get a lot more bang for the buck in the effects department. Recommend for fans of invisible man movies. For everyone else you may want to rent first.

Marlin, I believe that was a direct-to-DVD-type-sequel.

My only purchase this week was the Mr. Moto collection.

This week I ventured over to my local store and snagged the "Mr. Moto" set, and the "Hazel" tv-show set. In addition, I received "Sgt. Preston" s-2 and "Invisible Man" s-2 in the mail. So, along with my other recent purchases of "Rawhide" s-1, "Color Honeymooners" s-2, the "Will Rogers" set, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" part-2, I should be pretty well fixed for the month of August. Added to all that, I have two late Republic serials (the old vhs releases), which I recently got... "Flying Disc Man of Mars" and "Jungle Drums of Africa." They constitute two of the very few Republic serials I'd never gotten around to seeing.

I don't anticipate getting anything more this month, but such plans usually fall by the wayside before I get anywhere near the 30th. I might grab the "Ronald Reagan" set, but mainly because I'd like an upgraded copy of "Storm Warning" (1950), to replace the old off-air video of it I've had for twenty years. It's a nifty film. Also, I'll probably be swayed into ordering another batch of Alpha cheapies, consisting of b-westerns, oddball Monogrammers, and curious tv-shows. It's an addiction I fall prey to every other month.

Marlin, the Hollow Man sequel was direct-to-DVD. Thanks for the report on it, I had some interest and now I will pick it up. I am a big fan of the invisible man flicks, too.

DVDs I snagged this week include: V: FOR VENDETTA, THREE'S COMPANY: SEASON 7, THE PUPPET MASTERS and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: SEASON 5.

A trip to Best Buy yesterday netted me the four-disc Special Edition of Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock & Roll and a $3.99 special of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I only got one DVD title this week...the 7th season of Little House on the Prairie and that was back on Monday. I'm going to get another handful of titles this month but I may get exactly 1 title next month. I don't think anything is coming out in September that's a must-have for me so I figure I'll just get The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. It'll be a challenge to see if I can find a copy by then for less than $60.

Received a couple Bruce Campbell series from Amazon.com. Adventures of Brisco County Jr. which I missed when it originally aired and Jack of All Trades which I caught.

Little House on the Prairie: The Pilot arrived in the mail yesterday. Later, I went to Blockbuster and bought 4 movies from their "4 for $20" table...

Garden State
Just Like Heaven
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

And I expect season 8 and 9 of Little House to arrive sometime this week which would bring me up-to-date on that series. All I'd need would be the 3 post-series telefilms which come out in another month or two.

I picked up the Jayne Mansfield Collection over the weekend, and received a Stereophonics concert DVD from England. This week, I have the Ronald Reagan Collection coming. Haven't decided about the Jimmy Stewart set yet, but probably will, 'cause it's got shorts on it. Jimmy Stewart without shorts is like [insert your own bawdy joke here]. I will pick up the new Simpsons release too (this time, the box is in the shape of Maggie's head; I think it's season 8) even though we've barely started season 7.
