Last week I got seasons 8 and 9 of Little House on the Prairie, completing that series, at least until they bring out the set of the 3 telefilms that came out after it stopped being a weekly series. I believe I have 3 sets coming this week: James Stewart: The Signature Collection Full House: Season 4 The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.: The Complete Series |

A few discs from Grapevine have arrived, notably The Adventures of Smilin' Jack. At Best Buy, I got The Office: Season One, a show I've never seen. It was on sale, though ($16) and I like the original British version a lot. |

Picked up 10.5 Apocalypse. Either I missed this sequel when it aired or else it aired on NBC which I can't get. Had I seen it on TV I doubt I would have wasted my money. 10.5 was silly even for disaster movie "science". But it had fairly good action and interesting characters. 10.5 Apocalypse has even sillier "science", less interesting characters, and not enough difference in plot to make it interesting. I don't completely regret buying it. But that is only because I'm a big fan of the disaster movie genre. |

Sometimes at Amazon.com, I accidentally come across a sale. Looking at the DVD section of the site, I found several sales involving 20th Century Fox and took advantage of a "First-Season" TV sale. I ordered the following which are all the first seasons of these series... The Big Valley Arrested Development Remington Steele The Time Tunnel, Vol. 1 They all cost about $20. The Time Tunnel was cut into two parts (I think Vol. 1 consists of the first 12 episodes)...you can also get Vol. 2 for about $21. |

Just picked up The Last Voyage. To quote from the DVD cover, "Before Poseidon ... there was The Last Voyage." Hmmm. Wonder why they chose to release it now.
Actually Amazon.com lists an October release date. However I picked it up today at Circuit City. Either the release date was pushed up and Amazon hasn't updated their site or the local Circuit City jumped the gun.Wouldn't surprise me if this one turned out to be a stinker. But considering I'm a sucker for disaster movies, it starred Robert Stack, and only cost me $6.99 I don't figure I'm taking all that big a chance. |

I received those 4 DVD titles I mentioned ordering. Today I got one movie, the latest Spencere Tracy-Katharine Hepburn movie to come out on DVD, State of the Union. I now have every one of their movies that's available in the format but there are two that still haven't come out yet...maybe someday. |

After watching it I would rate The Last Voyage as a decent disaster flick. It was made on an actual ship which very much adds to the realism. |

Barring a weakening and visit to an actual store, I expect to get 3 titles this week which I have on order... The Andy Griffith Show: The Complete Seventh Season Mary of Scotland The Time Tunnel: Volume 2 Andy gets released officially on Tuesday...only one more season to be released following that which happens in December. Mary of Scotland is one of the movies in The John Ford Collection. These movies aren't yet for sale individually but some Amazon Marketplace sellers are opening up their box sets and selling the movies individually. That's how I got Sunrise earlier this year. Katharine Hepburn stars in this film about Mary, Queen of Scotland which I'm sure we all know is high on drama but low on historical accuracy. The Time Tunnel lasted one season which they've split up into two volumes. I recently got the first volume and this will complete that 2-part set. |

Today I received Mary of Scotland, a 1936 film starring Katharine Hepburn. This is part of The John Ford Collection but I managed to get it by itself. It looks good but there are absolutely no extras. |

Wow, this is my biggest week in quite awhile. I've now received DVDs for 4 straight days...we'll see if I can make it every weekday tomorrow. Today I received... Desperate Housewives: Season 2 (and I haven't even started watchingn the first season yet) The Shop Around The Corner with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. Cary Grant: The Signature Collection--This set contains 5 movies: Destination Tokyo, Night and Day, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and My Favorite Wife. I'm surprised I found this for just $24.95 (from Amazon.com) which brings it to just $4.99 a movie. |
