Watch "Them Thar Hills" first. Trust me.

I've seen it AND Tit For Tat... Both are classic shorts (and I don't mean because they're old!).

The boys' antagonist in Tit For Tat is one of the audience members in the Charley Chase short "Movie Night." Fascinating how the same people keep showing up in the Roach pictures.

The boys' antagonist in Tit For Tat...
Isn't this the same actor (and character for that matter) as in Them Thar Hills? Ditto for the antagonist's wife?

Charley Hall and Mae Busch and yes. Tit for Tat is a sequel to Them Thar Hills. "Hills" is the L&H film I always show people who never watch L&H films, because they invariably love it.

Well, sure, those two movies sort of encapsulate the L&H thing. I like "Big Business" the same way. All three movies just build and build, getting funnier and funnier as they go. Perfectly constructed comedies.

My L&H set arrived today and I'm happier than a cat with a ball of yarn. The set opens like a book, with a disk in the right page and a synopsis of each short on the disk, on the opened pages.

I've started nibbling on the L&H set. A few quick notes:

-- No complaint about the packaging thus far. It's designed so the discs can't slide around loose.

-- The "salute" on Disc #10 is certainly heartfelt and enjoyable, but it's not a documentary. Jerry Lewis, whether he's repeating tall tales Stan told him or unwittingly conflating a lot of legends, very seriously and sincerely offers up a total nonsense version of how Stan and Ollie got together.

-- Even when you're looking for it, the skill and professionalism often slips under the radar, like the sleight of hand by a master magician. You will believe two grown men can be totally flummoxed by, say, a doorway.

Got my L&H yesterday= outstanding so far

Also got my Island of Lost Souls- better than I remember- the last time I saw it was on TV when I was a kid in NY- the print back then was lousy, but it added to the atmosphere- but I really enjoyed seeing it again- well worth it.

I got the Tom and Jerry Golden Collection which removes the PC Crap on the original DVD issue and has them in order. THESE are classics!
