I did get that Humphrey Bogart collection today. One surprise about it...the cases that the discs are in are much thinner than in previous such sets. I think they call these slimcases (I've seen many TV sets use these). I guess Warners figures that since they're taking so much of our money, they could at least help us fit more on our shelves... :P

Warners has started using the slim-line cases for DVD boxed sets in which the DVDs are not sold separately, but they continue to use the "fat-ass" cases for DVD box sets that are sold separately. The separate 3-disc edition of The Maltese Falcon is still in the slimline, though; they've just created a slimmer box for it (the 1941 disc is in its own case, and there's a second case for discs 2 (with the first two versions of the film) and 3 (the extras).

The upcoming 11-disc Astaire & Rogers collection (the one that will include all 10 of their features plus a bonus disc) will be slimline, and the Amazon.com-exclusive edition will give you the empty slimline cases for the five films we already bought last year, so you can keep your collection together, and... well, at least they're thinking of us.

Something else I got today was a $25 Amazon.com bonus certificate (it's what I get as my reward for using their credit card) so I used that this morning when I pre-ordered the Gary Cooper Signature Collection. With the $25 certificate, I'll wind up only having to use $9.99 of my own money for that box set.

Picked up the animated Return to the Planet of the Apes series. This one snuck up on me. I knew it was coming out but forgot when.

Halloween Bargain Hunting

From the local Meier store, a Lugosi (Human Monster, Phantom Creeps Feature and one other) Chaney Jr. (Indestructible Man), Price (House on Haunted Hill. Last Man on Earth) collection for $6.99. There are about 4 or 5 filler movies not starring any of the above. One is the original Little Shop of Horrors. Several other Halloween collections available.

From the corner drugstore- AtomAge Vampire and Revolt of the Zombies (and a cartoon). Both on 1 disc for $1.99. Several others also available.

Also got the Jungle Jim collection that I ordered on EBay.

I picked up the Maltese Falcon set and just received used versions of Deep Space Nine seasons six and seven, so I can now retire my Asian imports of those seasons. I also pre ordered Star Trek the Animated Series.

I'm thinking about getting the Flash Gordon animated series and am really hoping that Wild Wild West season two will be released.

One DVD that I'm looking for is the final movie from Homicide: Life on the Street.

A quick trip to Target netted the usual impulse purchase: Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors.

I just got the Bogart Box 2, a separate "They Drive By Night", Abbott & Costello Show Season 2, and "Strange Fruit" (a drama sort of inspired by the song and the lynchings that inspired that).

You may want to curb your impulse buying, LG. How many copies of CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS can one person own?

I did get 2 of the titles today that I said were coming in this week, Scrubs: The Complete Fourth Season and The Specials which is a super-hero parody. I was wrong about the other title, though. Justice League Unlimited actually isn't scheduled to arrive for about 2 more weeks.

Grampy, don't forget the 30th Anniversary Special Edition. I am not joking, there are rumors Lucas is preparing just a set, for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars next year. You have to admit, the man has gall.
