Grampy, don't forget the 30th Anniversary Special Edition. I am not joking, there are rumors Lucas is preparing just a set, for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars next year. You have to admit, the man has gall. [/QUOTE]
I'm surprised that George doesn't make an anniversary edition an annual event.

Sure am glad I passed on the recent releases of the original Star Wars trilogy with their mediocre laserdisc transfers. If they have quality releases of the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy next year I'll probably spring for them. If not I have the special editions on DVD and the original versions on VHS.

This week added another John Wayne film, Cahill U.S. Marshall. That makes 34 films including his 3 serials. Not counting TV shows that probably makes him the star best represented in my DVD collection.

I am glad I passed on them, too, Marlin. I initially stayed away from the recent release of the "original" trilogy (though that is the version I wanted) because I was more than a little pissed at Lucas for releasing them, when only last year he was telling everyone he didn't have complete prints of the originals anymore and they could never be released. When I heard that I went out and bought last year's Special Edition versions because I believed that is all that would be available. Then a year later, after Lucas is pretty sure everyone has bought the Special Editions, he goes and releases the original trilogy. What a guy. And now that I have heard the original trilogy release is of the wrong aspect ratio and of substandard transfer quality, I am glad I stayed away.

John Wayne is also the most represented in my collection. I forget how many of his films I have on DVD but I know it's over 50. Hitchcock is the director most reprsented...I have over 40 of his.

I learned today a Match Game set is coming out next month. I looked it up and the only info I found is it's a 4-disc set and is coming from Brentwood, a company I'm used to seeing do mostly PD stuff. I'll be curious to learn more about this.

Rogmeister,

Thanks for the heads-up on MATCH GAME (the greatest game show of all time). I got a bad flu earlier this year, and I was stuck on the couch for a week. I TIVOed every showing of MATCH GAME on GSN, and the show got me through the illness. It's nice to see that some shows I enjoyed as a kid still hold up.

If you're going to buy that Match Game set, be sure you shop around. Amazon is charging about $31 for it but I've seen a few other sites that offer it for $20 or slightly lower.

The Icons of Horror: Boris Karloff set (with The Black Room and Before I Hang and other Columbia films) and the Warners "Motion Picture Masterpiece" DVD set, with David Copperfield (1935) and other literature-based films, should both be here today or tomorrow.

Dick Cavett's Hollywood Greats is coming my way soon. This is a multiple disc release featuring his vintage interviews with the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Mitchum. Many of these interviews have been running on TCM. I have A&E's Biography about Miss Hepburn coming as well.

Surprisingly, that "Over The Hedge" movie appears to be the only DVD I got last month. I could get a half-dozen this week by comparison. The first arrived today...

The Little Rascals Vol. 7 & Vol. 8

This is that series of compilations that came out awhile back by Cabin Fever and features intros by Leonard Maltin. This volume features their Oscar-winning one-reeler, Bored of Education. I actually had one copy of this but I'd never tried watching it until it was too late when I found out it was defective. I ordered a cheap copy I found at Amazon...it arrived today and I quickly checked it out and was relieved to see it played with no problems.

This week I received the 10-film Astaire & Rogers megaset, and it's a honey. One of the great DVD boxes of all time. I'll tell you more about it as I get caught up 'round here. Oh, yeah, and I got The Addams Family Vol. 1, too, and I'll probably pick up Monster House.

Yesterday I received a live comedy concert DVD by female comic Suzanne Westenhoefer. And today I got 3 titles...an episode of A&E's Biography profiling Katharine Hepburn plus a pair of sitcom sets, the 4th season of Bewitched and the 3rd season of The Facts of Life.
