A REALLY heavy week this week, helped by boxes of stuff from VCI and AC Comics. Besides all that, I netted the two Universal Classic Round-Up volumes of vintage westerns, Pan's Labyrinth, the Droopy Collection, and Fletch. Plus the new Pink Martini CD! |

In case you're wondering, the package from AC Comics included DVDs of The Fighting Devil Dogs, Dick Tracy vs. Crime, Inc., Manhunt in the African Jungle, Government Agents vs. Phantom Legion, serials all, plus our own Ms. Monogram 2007, Brenna Barry, in Gargantarama, and if that's not enough, there's also The 30-Foot Bride of Candy Rock. |

There's a Fry's Grand Opening going on, so I picked up some really cheap DVDs, including the James Bond boxed set (regularly $70, only $33) vol. 3 (this has the 2-disc editions of From Russia with Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, and Goldeneye). I also acquired Don Glut's I was a Teenage Movie Maker, the Warner Bros. John Wayne 3-some with The Big Stampede, Ride Him, Cowboy, and Haunted Gold, and the Aztec Mummy Mexican 3-pack. |

I've gotten next-to-nothing lately. The last one I got (about a week ago) was a Best of The Jimmy Dean Show and today I did get the 6th season of Home Improvement. Duke Wayne will be riding in with the cavalry next week, though... |

My dad was a big fan of Bing Crosby, and I watched lotsa Crosby films with him. My favorite was Birth of the Blues, and I have that DVD, too. I loaned it to Paul Panzer, who watched it and reported back to me, "You told me it was a good movie. You didn't tell me it was a GREAT movie." So there you have it. It's a great movie, everybody! |

John Wayne day today. Picked up
Also picked up Timothy Dalton's first Bond film The Living Daylights. The local Circuit City had it their shelves last week but it wasn't supposed to be released till this week and their cash register wouldn't ring up the sale. |

I have the John Wayne box from Warners on its way, and also picked up The Man and the Monster, a Mexican release from CasaNegra that I'd somehow missed before. I'll surely also pick up the four Universal classics (So Proudly we Hail and others) being released this week. |

Among the offerings added to the dusty archives of Rancho Yesteryear this week: Are You Being Served? Again! -- My impulse buy of the week. It isn't that I'm not a fan of Are You Being Served?--when it's good, it's very, very good--but I cringe at its overexposure...I swear this damn thing is on every public TV station in America. But I really do adore its follow-up series (which lasted only two "series" for a total of twelve episodes), which finds the former employees of Grace Brothers Department Store running a broken-down inn in the country. (The great thing is that the episodes on this disc have the original Grace and Favour titles, which is what the sitcom was originally called on the other side of the pond.) Some Alpha releases, including Volumes 3 and 4 of The Jack Benny Program and The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet. (I'm a fanatic for public domain releases of classic television shows.) Tex Avery's Droopy: The Complete Theatrical Collection ("Hello, all you happy people...") Scouts to the Rescue and The Royal Mounted Ride Again -- Well, I like to put a little gravy on Gravy's table. Game On -- Boxset containing all three series of the popular British sitcom. Sergeant Preston of the Upper Yukon: The Complete Third Season (I'm a completist--so sue me.) And from the land down under, the complete series runs of The Invaders and Johnny Staccato, from the ever popular Trevor Scott. |
