All good. Robin was the best Rat Pack movie, those are two of the best Wylers (I'm not a fan), and THE BIG COMBO belongs in everyone's collection. It's sooooo sleazy, but beautifully done. Hangmen Also Die is simply superb, one of my top three anti-Nazi movies (the others are ARMY OF DARKNESS and the Jean-Paul Belmondo version of LES MISERABLES, one of the overlooked masterpieces. So you scored, Mr. G. But I wonder: when the hell do you watch all this? When I was in my heavy buying phase I told myself I would break a leg someday, but so far, no such luck, and I have literally hundreds of movies I haven't seen. Maybe I should cancel the Netfix.

I watch when I can. Last Friday night, I watched Charlie Chan at the Opera, Red Planet Mars, and something else (I forget what) back to back to back.

This week's DVDs: I bought a used Sherlock Holmes Collection Vol. 3 to complete the restored MPI versions (I didn't want to pay the beaucoup bucks they ask for a new set), plus a new Wait Until Dark ($7.99 at Costco) with Audrey Hepburn and Mr. Bean's Holiday from England (yeah, it's on DVD there already).

I bought Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Season one volumes one and two. I enjoyed both this and Lost in Space when they were in Black and White, they were much "darker". I would love to buy the Sherlock Holmes set, but I agree with LG the set is a bit pricey for my tastes,.<......

Well, a trip to Amoeba Records netted me a bunch of economical pre-owned DVDs, including Devil Bat's Daughter (which, like Dracula's Daughter, is a sequel to a Bela Lugosi film sans Bela), the MGM release of Bert I. Gordon's The Magic Sword, Frankenstein must be Destroyed, and Summer Dreams, which was a made-for-TV movie about the Beach Boys.

I was at one of those odd lot close out stores and picked up two 1970's (?) TV horrors, first one TARANTULAS THE DEADLY CARGO and secondly and simply ANTS
for only $2.00 apiece one can only imagine the treasures that potentially lie within the loosely fitting shrink wrap.,..

The Local Price Chopper had a bin of DVD's ranging from 2.99-4.99 was able to pickup a little known submarine horror film called "Below" came out a few years ago during a shift of power at Dimension pictures. it is actually a rather spooky well done film about a "haunted" submarine where during the second world war. Is the submarine haunted or the fact that the oxygen level in the ship has been diminished and everyone is hallucinating....I personally I enjoyed this the first time i saw it....kind of like Poltergeist meets U571 meets anyfilm with a secret everyone is sharing.....

I bought season 3 of The Office, which will be my only purchase this month, unless those mysterious sets of Universal films come out at Best Buy.

Lotsa stuff this week. Over on the Criterion thread, I talk about the four new Criterions I got last night, and Rififi (#115) arrived today. Also in the mail today: The Essential Ozzie & Harriet Collection, 100 episodes on 12 discs. Wow. I also picked up the "Midnight Movies" boxed set from Shriek Show (not the MGM ones), which -- for 15 bucks -- gives me The Incredibly Strange Creatures, Rat Pfink a Boo Boo, The Lemon Grove Kids, and The Thrill Killers. Also, I got The Archies: The Complete Series so I can listen to Bang-Shang-a-Lang whenever I want to. And two other DVD sets I'm going to discuss on separate threads....

I wish I could say I was proud of myself for not buying as many DVDs as I used to...but I have a whole buttload on the way and on order, so I haven't really tapered off at all.

This week's haul: The Odd Couple: Second Season--once again, using the last of my "Fun Cash" to get a must-have DVD at a low price. I also purchased the second series of the classic Thames sitcom, Father, Dear Father from Benson's World (it has nothing to do with Robert Guillaume).

Also bought the Masked Marvel serial from AC Comics, and three desperately-wanted Region 2 noirs from a place called Xploited Cinema: Phantom Lady (1944), Armored Car Robbery (1950) and Tight Spot (1955). (Had I shopped a bit more, I could have picked up Spot cheaper at Amazon.co.uk--that'll learn me.)

Picked up the Office 3rd season from Best buy and I went the extra ten dollar mile and bought the limited Best Buy Edition complete with a Dewight Shrite bobblehead and a real live "Dundie Award".....

It's sad that I have to buy awards from make believe companies.......

Arrived today, the new Special Edition of The Naked Kiss from VCI, as well as their Weiss-O-Rama: 6 hours' worth of previously unseen silent short comedies. I's in heaven. Lots more stuff on the way; I gotta get some reviews up, yes?!?

I watched some o' those Weiss films last night. Weird stuff. Some good gags, which showed up in more than one film. What REALLY impressed me is that these films are all from original 35mm material and look brand new; you don't see cheap vintage silent comedies looking this good very often.

From VCI; it's brand new. A 2-disc, 6 hour set. Ben Turpin, Snub Pollard, and some guy named Poodles!
