New arrivals at Rancho Yesteryear this week:

I capitalized on the VCI Sale by snatching up double features of Cattle Queen of Montana/Tennessee's Partner and The Chase/Bury Me Dead--in addition to King & Country (1964), Silver Lode (1954) and So Ends Our Night (1941).

On the TV side, I added to my voluminous Perry Mason collection with Season 2, Volume 2 and on the Britcom side (Region 2) the first series of Man About the House spin-off Robin's Nest (Series 2 is also enroute). Robin's Nest was adapted for us Yank audiences as Three's a Crowd, the one-season followup to Three's Company.

I used the rest of my Columbia House cash to buy the last volume (#4) of the Bud Abbott & Lou Costello Franchise Collection, and from eFilmic.com the 1945 Danny Kaye comedy Wonder Man.

And so it goes.

As a kid, Wonder Man was one of my favorites, potato salad.

I grew up near where Ernest lived for a time, in Falmouth, KY. At least we were always told he lived there.

Gravy, I just noticed you got the first Treasures box.

Take a look at "Rose Hobart", and read the liner notes about Salvador Dali's reaction at its premiere.

And later add: (The Battle of) San Pietro, directed by John Huston with music by Tiomkin, is a genuinely impressive film.

I used to have Ernest's Greatest Hits I & II which were his TV commercials. He should've stayed there as I liked him much better in small doses. I had those on VHS...they're not available on DVD by any chance, are they?

A big box arrived today from AC Comics, full of Republic serials, plus a few old horror films.

I mentioned in a post earlier today that I was scheduled to receive Robin's Nest: The Complete Second Series. It arrived in today's mail.

Ernest's Greatest Hits I & II are part of the Essential Ernest Collection. It also includes the movies Ernest in the Army and Ernest Goes to Africa. The other items are Hey Vern! It's My Family Album and Your World as I See it.

You are certainly right that Ernest is best in small doses. We have Monogram Week. With Ernest Greatest Hits available we could pick a different commercial every year and have the Ernest P. Worrell Minute.

Okay, some acquisitions yesterday... had some massive discounts and coupons at a variety of places, which naturally leads me to the Criterion section, where I picked up Yojimbo/Sanjuro (two films by Kurosawa), Criterions No. 52-53, and -- based solely on the ringing review by Mr. Panzer -- the documentaries of Louis Malle set. How many other people, I wonder, buy Kurosawa and Monogram Lugosi pictures the same week?

Oh, yeah, Golden Boy is here, too, and I 'spect to have a review up today. I spect.

. . .  (The Battle of) San Pietro, directed by John Huston with music by Tiomkin, is a genuinely impressive film.

And how. Unforgettable images, made even more moving by Huston's voiceover narration.

I'm looking forward to the third Treasures box, which should arrive this week.

I'm working my way through the first Treasures set, kickin' around Disc 1, and enjoying it immensely. For a larf, read some of the reviews on amazon.com: a lot of nitwits bitch about this set for some reason. I think it's amazing!

Just recieved a copy of one of Guy Richies films that has yet to see release in the USA "Revolver" with Jason Strahaim, Ray Liotta and Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore from the Sopranos. it is supposed be another one of his high octane crime capers (I loved Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels & Snatch).
It has been on the shelf for about 2 years (at least in the states)....that generally does not signal a good film...but ya never know..(Maybe Madonna doesn't want him making these type of films anymore. maybe the shadow knows)

Yesterday I received the following...

Leave It To Beaver, Seasons 1 & 2 (the only seasons issued to date)
Step By Step: Television Favorites
Smallville: Season 5
Annie Oakley (the movie starring Barbara Stanwyck)
Spider-Man 3: 2-disc Special Edition

Up next should be Laredo...

...and Laredo did indeed arrive today. I took a quick glimpse...the picture quality looks pretty decent to me, better than The Guns of Will Sonnett, released by the same company a few years ago.
