plus a bunch of $1 DVDs I found at Target, from a company called PC Treasures of Oxford, MI. The titles are (ready for this?) 1960s Blooper Bonanza (with bloopers from Star Trek, Laugh In, and McHale's Navy), two volumes of Davey and Goliath, something called Game Show Classics, with 6 episodes from the '50s of such faves as I've Got a Secret, What's My Line, and To Tell the Truth, with original commercials.

I went to TAR-ZHAY this morning and found two of these DVDs Gravy mentioned, the Game Show Classics and 1960s Blooper Bonanza. The Davey and Goliaths were also there, but since I wouldn't watch them when I was a kid it made no sense to buy them now.

"Garsh, Davey." Words to live by.

I got the 2-disc version of the new Hairspray.

I picked up an amazing dvd today. March of the Wooden Soldiers with Laurel & Hardy by Genius Entertainment.

I posted the multitude of extras that come with this over on the Laurel & Hardy thread, but suffice it to say this is the ultimate budget stocking stuffer this Christmas.

Stopped by Big Lots last night, and found some cool DVDs for a couple bucks each, including The Guns of Navarone (1961), Cowboy (1958, with Glenn Ford and Jack Lemmon), the uncut version of Where the Truth Lies (2005), and a 20-movie pack called Burnt Rubber, that includes (ready for this?) Bail Out (1989, with Linda Blair), The Big Wheel (1949, with Mickey Rooney & Thomas Mitchell), Blonde Comet (1941, with Barney Oldfield), Born To Be Wild (1938, with Ralph Byrd), the serial Burn 'Em Up Barnes (which they count as two movies, the stinkers), the great Arch Hall, Jr. in his film debut, The Choppers (1961). Danger On Wheels (1940, with Richard Arlen & Andy Devine), The Devil On Wheels (1947, with Darryl Hickman), Double Nickels (1977, with Ed Abrams), Roger Corman's The Fast And The Furious (1955, with John Ireland & Dorothy Malone), High Gear (1933, with James Murray), Hot Rod Girl (1956, with Lori Nelson & Chuck Connors), In Hot Pursuit (1977, with Bobby Watson). Killing Cars (1986, with William Conrad), The Petty Story (1974, with Noah Beery Jr. & Richard Petty), Speed To Spare (1948, with Richard Arlen & Jean Rogers), T-Bird Gang (1959, with Ed Nelson), Ten Laps To Go (1936, with Rex Lease, Duncan Renaldo & Yakima Canutt) and The Wild Ride (1960, with Jack Nicholson). Whew!

Third season of The Outer Limits? But...that show only lasted two seasons! Unless you're talking of the much inferior remake of recent years...

I don't know about "quite inferior", Rogmeister. I have both seasons of the original series and have found it quite a struggle to slog through them.

I hate digging through the Wal-Mart cage of DVDs...but while passing it yesterday I saw "Hell Is For Heroes" resting at the top of the pile. It's a great Don Siegel war film with a great cast...Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Fess Parker, James Coburn, Nick Adams, Harry Guardino, Mike Kellin and "introducing Bob Newhart". I remembered seeing this paired with an Elvis movie back in the drive-in days. For $5, I couldn't pass it up.

Dropped by the local Wal-Mart and picked up Live Free or Die Hard. While there I also purchased a double feature of The Fugitive and U.S. Marshals. For a month when I didn't plan on buying very much I sure seem to be picking up plenty of titles.

I ventured out to Big Lots this morning and found the Sony 1943 "Batman" serial for $2.00. Like Gravy, I also picked up "Guns of Navarone" and "Cowboy" plus a copy of Steve Martin's "Roxanne" for the wife. All at $2 each

I got the new Killer of Sheep, and from Dimple's, a variety of used DVDs at cut-rate prices (and if you bought $10 worth of stuff, you got a $10 gift card good for the day after Christmas). Ready? Badder Santa. Criterion "Written on the Wind", which is a Douglas Sirk picture. I've never seen one. I think it's a chick flick, and a girly-type movie. But it was $9.74. So what th' hell. I'll try anything for under ten books.

The HBO miniseries Empire Falls (that one was under five bucks). A Justice League cartoon movie (ditto). Two volumes of Casper cartoons from the '50s. The Addams Family Vol. 2.

I bought a new stand-alone recorder to replace my aging Panasonic. It's not a DVD, but it's burning a DVD now (Andy Hardy Comes Home) so I guess that counts for something, right?

Don't know if this sale is in all stores, but the Circut City on Fifth Avenue has a holiday special of Smallville dvd box sets going for $14 per season from 1 - 5. The first season was a bit too repetitive for me but the last couple of seasons have really picked up. It has become one of the more entertaining weekly shows on tv. More and more of Superman's mythos is appearing and stories are getting more intriguing and interesting. Considering these box sets cost up to $60 each, this is one heck of a savings.
