At times it seems like all I have to do is purchase a DVD and they will release a better version or include the movie as part of a larger set. Thankfully today is an exception. I had considered several times getting the original The Fly/Return of the Fly double feature but for one reason or another never did. Just received The Fly Collection which includes The Fly, Return of the Fly, Curse of the Fly, and a fourth disc of extras.

I'm usually in that boat, too, Marlin. But, like you, for some reason I held off on getting THE FLY/RETURN OF THE FLY double feature for the longest time and was rewarded with the release of the new 4-disc collection.

Just found the Bogart/Bacall collection with The Big Sleep, Key Largo, To Have and Have Not & Dark Passage at Costco for 16 bucks. My selections may seem pretty pedestrian to you, 'cause I know the rest of you have forgotten more movies than I have, but I'm just gettin' started, except for havin' most of the sound serials. :P

Glad to hear you got in on the deal, your Inspectorness. I would have myself were it not for the fact that I already own a copy.

Oh, and I second that emotion w/regards to the Bogie & Bacall set...at 4 bucks a disc it's a regular steal.

Picked up The Fugitive season 1, volume 1 at Circuit City. It finally used up the gift certificate I received as a present last Christmas.

Watched that new African Queen DVD last night; I had never seen this film before, mainly because my mom and oldest sister considered it their favorite movie ever, and I figgered it was a chick flick and I wouldn't enjoy it. What a dope I was. What a great film.

And it's a crime that it's not available for purchase on this side of the pond (well, in Region 1, anyway).

No love for Better Off Dead? Or One Crazy Summer, for that matter?

I like Cusack in general, as does my son (who these are for) but those are my 2 faves.

I love Better Off Dead.

My sister knows that movie practically backwards and frontwards. I have to admit, it is one funny flick.

One of our local "Big Lots" store has a huge stash of Paramount DVD releases at $4.90 each.
I picked up "Ace High" with Eli Wallach, "I Married a Monster from Outer Space", "The Rainmaker" with Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn, "Riding High" with Bing Crosby (I love Oliver Hardy's brief bit in this) and George Pal's "War of the Worlds".

I thought I had posted this previously, but now I can't find it, so excuse me if this is a recap chapter: my order from Deep Discount arrived, and included More Treasures from American Film Archives, Kino's Glamour Girls (with Love Me Tonight, The Blue Angel, The Good Fairy, Lured, and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman), and Kino's Film Noir (with Behind Locked Doors, Railroaded, Hangmen Also Die, The Long Night, and Sudden Fear).

Kino's Film Noir (with Behind Locked Doors, Railroaded, Hangmen Also Die, The Long Night, and Sudden Fear)

I bought this set a good while back from DeepDiscount--it had been marked down to something like twenty-three bucks--even though I had two of the movies already. No problem, says I, I'll just eBay the two I already have (Railroaded! and Sudden Fear)...

Kino's now got a second Film Noir set out--the trouble is, I have all of the films (Scarlet Street, The Hitch-Hiker, Strange Confession and Contraband) except They Made Me a Fugitive. So I guess I'll buy Fugitive when I can and pass on the whole set.
