The last of my Avengers sets I ordered in the big A&E TV on DVD sale arrived today. Also got a nice 1-sheet of the Andy Clyde short Gold is Where You Find It (1944) in the mail; the two-reeler features one of Mel Blanc's rare movie appearances (live-action, I mean).

Interestingly enough, I have bought just a single DVD so far this year and it is an excercise (wallking) one.

Are you supposed to go for a walk, or sit on the couch and watch the DVD?

You walk WHILE you're watching the DVD. Let me tell you, getting someone to walk in front of me holding both a DVD and a TV isn't easy...and don't get me started on trying to find a mile-long extension cord!

On November 13, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence; that request came from his wife. Deep down, he knew she was right, but he also knew that some day he would return to her. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his friend, Oscar Madison. Several years earlier, Madison's wife had thrown HIM out, requesting that HE never return. Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy?

The answer to this is no, of course. On January 30, I received The Odd Couple: The Third Season in the ol' Yesteryear mailbox, and as soon as I find some copious free time around here I plan to watch every single episode.

Another Criterion today, one that I think will hold special interest to Balconeer Stony Brooke. It's Criterion #99. Stony, go look it up.

Gimme Shelter. One of my favorites. Mick Jagger stoned to the gills, the Hells Angels running amok, and Charlie Watts crying in shame. Good tunes too. Live performances of Jumpin' Jack Flash, Love In Vain (in slo-mo), Honky Tonk Woman and Sympathy For The Devil (where a guy gets stabbed in the head by a member of The Hells Angels). Mick's afraid of The Angels, but not Keith. Keith was probably more stoned than even Jagger could imagine.

A little story about this film. I went to see this in Akron at the Art theater with my soon-to-be brother-in-law and 2 of his friends. They were all about 5 years older than I. The flick was doubled with Peter Boyle in Joe. I couldn't get into the theater because I was only about 15 and Joe was rated "R", so back to the car I went and sat in the back seat as the others went to see the flicks. The guys had some beers in the car and told me to go ahead and drink them. The parking lot was directly across the street. After a short while, a guy walks out of the theater and upto the car. I thought, Oh Shit, I'm busted. Being the polite guy I am, I rolled down the window and the guy tells me he's the theater manager and he's gonna let me see the film. I didn't have to pay, he let me in free. Turns out, by the best of my figuring, Joe was the feature they were really wanting me not to see.

Enjoy the film Gravy (You probably have NEVER seen it) you might end up with some culture B)

I recall you telling me that story... The Art Theatre in Cuyahoga Falls fluctuated at that time between being a revival house and a porno theatre. They used to let me in to see X-rated films with no problem, and Stony -- a good, what, 4 or 5 inches taller than me? -- got stopped going to see a Stones concert picture. See, it's all in the ATTITUDE, folks.

Wonder if that theatre is still around?

Nope. Found some info online; apparently, it opened as the Dayton Theatre in the 1920s (it was on Dayton Street, not in the city of Dayton). It became the Art in the 1950s (probably because some dumb prospective patrons were accidentally driving hundreds of miles away, to the city of Dayton) and closed in 1986. It's apartments now. *sigh*

Actually the theater was in Akron, on N. Tallmadge Ave. Not the Falls. You had to cross the Hi Level bridge to get to the Falls.

Gravy and I did a walking challege of 21 miles (I think it was 21) and had to cross over the Hi Level bridge....and it was HIGH, over a deep gorge. It was metal and you could see thru the street part, for it was also made of metal, sorta like those metal roll up doors in front of the stores at the mall. The only concrete was the sidewalk....and Gravy had a little problem with heights at the time.......jittery times...hell, he made ME nervous
