In today's mail, I received one of those discs of "The Directors". This one is on Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker. They're all on contemporary directors...I already have ones on Steven Speilberg, Ron Howard and others. I also have one on Roger Corman which I haven't seen yet...that could be fun. I do wish they'd done more female directors...I wouldn't mind seeing episodes on the films of Penny Marshall and Nora Ephron and a few others...perhaps Jane Campion. The only female director I'm aware they've profiled in this series is Barbra Streisand. Her problem is she only does Barbra Streisand films... |

I ordered a whack of DVDs from Rodney at OldieDVD.com, taking advantage of his superb buy 10 get 1 free deal. I had surfed his site over the last few months, making a list of desirables, so when some spare cash became available I took advantage. Coming my way are: FANTASTIC FOUR (1992) - I have this one on a muddy VHS, being a big FF fan I really wanted a decent copy, so I am hoping for the best. For a low-budget effort, this is actually a fairly faithful, fun movie. Doctor Doom has a better outfit in this one, compared to the new movie, but he still fails to refer to himself in the third person. SUPERMAN: THE INDIAN MOVIE (1978) - Superman as an overweight, East Indian, Elvis impersonator. 'Nuff said. DICK TRACY - episodes from the series DRACULA (1958) - The movie made in Istanbul, supposed to be quite faithful to the book, should prove interesting. SUPERMAN: THE UNAIRED PILOTS - This set includes the SUPERBOY pilot from the late 50s, which is excellent, as well as the pilot for SUPERPUP, which probably won't be quite as good. DEATH OF GEORGE REEVES - Obviously examining the case of George Reeves' murder. Yeah, you heard me, murder. I never did, and never will, believe the other theory. The first werewolf movie, from 1925, whose name escapes me at the moment. JUSTICE LEAGUE - The pilot for a proposed TV series in the 1990s that I also have on VHS and am hoping for a better copy. A decent effort, all things considered. SCIENCE FICTION NOSTALGIA - A compilation of sci-fi movies and television episodes. THE WILD WORLD OF BATWOMAN - This includes the movie of the same title, as well as BATGIRL, DICK TRACY and WONDER WOMAN unaired pilots. There is one more title, but for the life of me, I can't remember it right now. |

...and I remembered. THE HEROES COLLECTION, which contains superhero-themed shorts and trailers by fans. Includes DEAD END, which features Batman vs Predator vs Alien; plus about 8 or 9 other shorts. I have seen DEAD END, which is quite well done, and I have heard good things about many of the others featured on the DVD. Should be quite a treat. |

I got that one not long myself. Grayson is great...it's put together like a movie trailer and features lots of DC heroes including Superman, Wonder Woman and (very briefly) Green Lantern. Today I got two items... The Directors: James Cameron (This is a one-hour show that profiles one director each episode. I think Encore airs it...I'm not sure if they're still producing new ones.) The 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series: Collector's Edition. 7 discs! This was the last time the Pirates won a championship though they did win their division 3 years in the early 90's. |

Thanks, Rogmeister. I have heard nothing but good things about that Grayson film. I am sure THE HEROES COLLECTION is the first disc I will pop in, when my bundle of discs arrives. |

The Pony Express has brought today a most impressive package... The John Wayne-John Ford Movie Collection Just from a brief going over of it, I daresay this is already now the crown jewel of my DVD collection... |

International distribution rights have brought me a most unbountiful package today, and a headache. Let me explain: Upon arriving at my favorite DVD store today, with all intent & purposes to purchase the John Ford/John Wayne Collection, when I learned the set has been delayed in Canada for two weeks. The reason? Apparently, Warner Bros does not have distribution rights for STAGECOACH in Canada. So the set will be released here in two weeks, probably sans the 2-disc STAGECOACH. Very, very frustrating. Luckily, my DVD store will have imported copies of the movie, so I will be able to pick it up, but it will be separate from the boxed set; so not only do I have to have a bastardized set, I will have to pay more for the whole shebang. |

It's Christmas Week movie-wise here this week. Yesterday, as I mentioned above, I got the John Wayne-John Ford set and today I got... The Busby Berkeley Collection containing 5 movies (42nd Street, Gold Diggers of 1933, Footlight Parade, Dames and Gold Diggers of 1935). My Man Godfrey--I tried to find a good copy...hard to tell since there's so many. I wound up ordering one from a place called Key Video. It has a colorized one and a black & white (supposedly restored) one. It was cheap...if it's lousy, I'll look again. Muppets From Space--Well, they can't all be classic. Well, I like The Muppets so sue me. Teacher's Pet with Doris Day & Clark Gable (okay, The King gets top billing but this goes into my Doris Day section so I'm listing her first). Gorgo The War Wagon And one TV set...The Doris Day Show: Season 3 |

After last week's numerous purchases, I went light this week, picking up the two new Fox Noirs; as well as PHANTOM OF THE WEST, from Alpha. |
