I picked up a copy of the baseball comedy Rookie of the Year today. I got angry when I was at Wal-Mart the other day. I bought Bee Movie the other day...a regular single-disc version...and now they've come out with a 2-disc special edition featuring commentary by Jerry and others. Why couldn't that have been offered when the movie first came out?

If only we had a Costco...

Yesterday, I received my region 2 copies of Rock-a-Bye Baby (1958) and The Devil Rides Out (1968).

That is... bizarre. I ordered Rock-a-Bye Baby the other night. Did you go for Amazon.co.uk 's insanely low $6.00 price? How's the picture quality? As a Tashlin addict I just had to grab it regardless.

I grabbed it because the only Jerry Lewis solo films that I have any affection for are the Tashlin-directed ones (The Disorderly Orderly, It$ Only Money). Amazon.co.uk also has the Tashlin-Lewis collaboration The Geisha Boy.

Haven't had an opportunity to open it up yet but I'll give it a gander tomorrow and report back to you.

Today, arriveth at Castle Gravy: The Bette Davis Collection, the one from Fox. Includes new special editions of some previous releases (2-disc sets) and some new-to-DVD titles. The whole mess includes All About Eve, Phone Call from a Stranger, The Virgin Queen, Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte, and The Nanny.

I also had to pick up THERE WILL BE BLOOD, an instant American classic.

The Phantom Empire arrived yesterday from Deepdiscount. It took 2 weeks, but for $12.16 and no shipping handling charges, what the heck. Yeah, it's the Gravy filled VCI thing.

I unwrapped it and took a quick peek at it this morning. The quality is very good, and it's also letterboxed--I don't think I've ever seen this movie play in anything else on TV other than pan & scan.

Wow! A salary in the high one figures!

Seriously, Gravy old sock...once we get settled into the new Athens digs I'll be only too happy to contribute some reviews. Things are a little hectic right now, what with me trying to get some liner notes completed and my father not budging from the History Channel. (I keep telling him we won World War II--it was in all the papers--but he remains unconvinced.)

Today I picked up Ratatouille and the "A Very Jerry" 2-disc edition of Bee Movie. I also recently ordered a couple serials, my first in awhile...The Scarlet Horseman and Battling With Buffalo Bill...

The last time I watched the History Channel, they were showing COLORIZED newsreels... I mean, WTF?!?

I ordered mine from DD as well, and they said it shipped on March 30th...but alas, it hasn't arrived yet. I'm thinking my copy disappeared into the USPS triangle.

In the meanwhile, I was greeted by The First Kings of Comedy collection (containing Robert Youngson's The Golden Age of Comedy and When Comedy Was King) and 30 Years of Fun in the mailbox, along with the Perry Mason: 50th Anniversary Edition box set. I also bought the Region 2 Harold Lloyd: The Definitive Collection set, because it has Welcome Danger (1929) on it and the Region 1 set does not.

Giant Eagle grocery stores in the area are having a big "2 DVD's for $10" sale.

I picked up the Robert Wise version of "The Haunted", "The Cowboys" with John Wayne, "Defending Your Life" with Albert Brooks and "Gremlins".

I'm waiting for my copy of the Kino "Houdini" set to arrive ... and ... I have placed an order with Legend Films. I'm getting "Student Bodies", "Money From Home", "The Busy Body" and "Won-Ton-Ton".
