Eagle of the Night is probably the most disappointing serial I ever got. |

Worse than Young Eagles? Or is it just that you came to YE with lower expectations? |

Chapter 7 of Batman and Robin - The Fatal Blast! Two henchmen of the 'unknown Wizard' run round a large rock from the left and right and collide on the other side knocking each other over, lol! John Duncan's gotta be the BEST Robin - he even looks like Bob Kane's comic portrayal! Holy inspiration!

You're on the money, Sarge. My expectations for a silent serial with a poetic title like Eagle of the Night were 'way too high -- and then the thing was, as rr points out, extremely padded with what looks like stock footage wirth no purpose other than to make it look like there's a large cast. |

Did Kane draw Robin as a 30 year old greaser? I must have missed those issues. I will say this, John Duncan is better than Chris O'Donnell in the Schumacher films. |

Early on in Batman and Robin, somebody grabs Robin's cape during a fistfight and Robin makes like he's being strangled. That was one of many discouraging moments in a serial full of them. And yes, Robin was definitely no Boy Wonder. Just as well. The mysterious scientist with the wheelchair and do-it-yourself tanning booth went on to play Mr. Wilson on Dennis the Menace, so he was going to get his share of meddling kids. |

Not to mention Merlin the Magician! ![]() As a 9 year-old, I thought Robin's hairstyle was pretty snazzy! |

Three chapters into The Lone Defender. Usual sound problems from bad microphone placement tha was prevalent in many low budget movies at the beginning of the talkies, you can hear people in fore ground fine but not the people standing just behind them. Walter Miller does a descent Spanish accent as the mysterious hero Ramon, who may or may not be The Cactus Kid. |

The current lineup -- Cody of the Pony Express, an unexceptional Columbia western that happens to be the first serial I ever saw, in 1950, but nothing so far jogs my memory, or stands out in any way, really. Dick Tracy, for the third time. I didn't much care for this the first time but it has grown on me. My only complaint, not enough John Piccori. King of the Mounties -- the Serial Squadron demystification. A good workmanlike job, one of Eric's better efforts, and the serial itself is fun despite abundant stock footage. Sign of the Wolf -- a fair dog serial also from the Squadron. Eric did a little tinting, but not enough to ruin it. I may never finish this one -- it's pretty uninteresting. Jungle Jim -- one of the best Universal serials -- I love it. This serial revived my interest in serials. Who's Guilty? -- Gave up on this after the first three episodes because the second three don't seem to be on my disc. Guess this will be my next purchase! |

I provided Paul his copy of "Who's Guilty". It was recorded on dual-layer blank DVDs and that may be the problem. I sent Paul an email about this. |

Finished The Lone Defender yesterday, plot was a bit redundant with everyone chasing down Rin Tin Tin, Sr. because he is the only one who knows the location of a hidden gold mine. Only Walter Miller and Bob Kortman were able not to get blown off the screen by Rinty's unnaturally camera friendly eyes. After seeing this I totally understand why he was such a big star in the 20's and why his successors have never come close to equally him. |

I watched chapter 10 of Flash Gordon today, and I'm still kind of shocked that I'm just now getting around to seeing this. May not technically be the best serial ever made (though many think it is) but it sure is one of the most fun serials ever made. Which now that I think about it, may put it in the running for the best ever. |

Mystery of the Riverboat - with Mantan Mooreland in the cast it is a very watchable Universal serial. Lyle Talbot is there for villainy and Jimmy Dodd also makes frequent appearances in musical numbers. Robert lowery is an adequate hero. |
