Currently half-way through SON OF THE GUARDSMAN, so to answer the thread question...No.

Bats,
You're absolutely correct about SOG. All anyone has to do is watch chapter 1.

I'm still slogging through Chick Carter, so I'm not watching any good serials either.

I watched all the good ones years ago and no longer have the bug. Still buy 'em though, for some reason.

I think when Eric went off his nut that ruined serials for me. I had a huge emotional investment in the Squadron and refused to see the writing on the wall for an absurdly long time.

9/11 also made a difference. What had been fun about the chapter endings suddenly turned nightmarish.

One of the Good ones is not Jungle Queen - the only thing I can recommend it for is a cure for insomnia.

Just finished Mascot's Mystery Squadron. One of the studio's best. Good mystery with a real surprise twist on who the villain turns out to be, great miniature work, exciting dog fight action and the awesome teaming of Bob Steele and Guinn "Big Boy"Williams. They work so well together I'm surprised that they didn't work together more often in films, they would have a great team for a western series.

Well, Mr P, there is a version from the Serial Squadron that is actually quite nice.

I wouldn't buy a Porterhouse steak for a dime from Eric Stedman, even if he served it with champagne.

I watched the first chapter of 1915's Les Vampires last night. I had caught a glimpse of this serial a few years back when TCM showed it over the course of several Sundays. Despite the title, this is not about Dracula wannabes, it is about a ruthless criminal empire that threatens to consume the good citizens of Paris. The first chapter was a bit slow to start as it follows a newspaper reporter who is writing about the Vampires. The stakes quickly ramp up as he is threatened by the group to drop the story. The serial doesn't appear to be shy about gruesome viloence as the title of episode one is "The Severed Head". Said head turns up in a box found behind a painting in the room our reporter was staying in. The head belongs to the police official that was investigating the Vampires. Hmmm, could get interesting.

The quality of the print shows its age at times and has plenty of scuffs and scratches, but is very watchable. Scenes are tinted, with each location afforded its own shade. More to come...

Whose print is this?
It's like Rodney King used to say, "Can't we all get a bong."
