Bat, I saw nearly all of Batman and Robin in the theater as a little kid, and loved it. When I revisited it 15 years ago there were actually scenes I remembered. I suppose by rational standards it's not so good, but I still enjoy it more than any other serial, in spite of your ill-fitting cowl, that silly repeating sequence of Bill Fawcett in the chair and the even sillier revelation of the bad guy. This is one of the very few cases when I love a movie out of sheer nostalgia, and it helps me understand how people can blow the horn for lousy movies they saw as a kid: case in point, mort and Son of the Guardsman, the most amateurish serial I've ever seen. |

I agree, Mr P. But I don't think LG was a kid when that "film" came out. |

Just got finishing watching Trev Scott's updated Buck Jones Serial "The Roaring West". First off this is definitely a different print from what VCI released on VHS awhile back. A little soft in spots but overall a very decent print and for those who like to update there serials this is the one. Barcroft |

Zombies of the Statosphere - CGI be damned - give me minature rockets - papermache dummies on wire - Leonard Nimoy holding his breath underwater etc. Great fun in the Rocket Man Series. The Cheezy Flicks print is a decent one. |

Just picked up OVERLAND MAIL -- I'm not a big fan of westerns, and I usually reserve my serial choice to costumed or sci fi-- but after watching the first chapter this one is okay. Anything with Lon Chaney in it is usually worth watching "I'm comin' for ya, Alligator Man!!" |

I caught ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES on TCM this morning and was surprised to see William Austin in it. Serial fans know he was Alfred in the first Batman serial. But later on in the movie is a guy playing a butler who played Alfred the Butler in the '49 version of Batman and Robin! Twice the Alfreds in one 90 minute picture! |

Alfred in '49 "It's the Bat Signal sir." zzzz As much as I think the '49 Batman made Ed Wood cringe when he saw it, it has a special place for me because, hey, it's still Batman and it was the first serial I ever saw (Cue wavy screen graphics for flashback): It was the late 70s, I'm about ten years old and we just got our first Burger King in town, up until then we had been ruled by the monopoly that was McDonald's-- telling us when, where and how many pickles we could have on our burgers. BK came along and everything changed-- now we could have it our way. The first Saturday it's open my good buddy and I take some of our allowance and bypass the local hobby store in favor of trying out these "new" burgers. I still remember the thing that struck me most was the smell of them. We're sitting there eating our burgers on a busy city street and right in the middle of the restaurant they are showing this old black and white movie. These are the days before VCR's and my first and only knowledge of serials was from the back of a GIANT Batman comic book which showed a picture of Lew Wilson and Doug Croft from the '43 serial and I was amazed that there had been a Batman before Adam West. I hoped someday to see it. Imagine my surprise when this lame movie they were showing turned out to be an episode of NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN AND ROBIN!? The manager must have been a fan or something-- I can't explain why they were showing it or how the planets aligned in just such a way that I actually saw it. I was transfixed! As bad as it is (and it's puh-lenty bad) I still like it. I even have a couple of episodes on my iTouch which I watch at the gym when I get tired of channel surfing on the treadmill. |

Andy, I'm with ya, brother! Though the '43 Batman serial is still my favourite, I also have a soft spot for the '49 version. I saw both serials, one after the other, as I came by them both on that great day in '82 (I think) when I was on vacation in the good ol' US of A and had wandered into a Toy 'R Us to find both serials available from Good Times. Good times, indeed. |

I'm on record as saying The New Adventures of Batman and Robin is one of my favorite movies ever, and I know for a fact that it's a lousy movie. |
