But Miss Rogers spends most of the serial in a boyish flight suit and helmet.

Another disservice done by this serial.

Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman...then always be Batman!

(so why did everybody spend the whole serial rattling around in frail-looking biplanes?)

Are you sure it's all non-stock aerial footage?

Well, there was certainly some stock -- sort of doubt they crashed a bunch of planes just for this. But all the shots actually showing the Eagle's custom-painted plane had to be original, and likewise shots of planes (from the ground and from the planes themselves) buzzing and dropping grenades on recognizable characters and sets (although when a ship explodes in one of the final chapters, it's pretty emphatically not the same ship we saw a moment earlier).

Also recalling early stock shots of a dirigible with parts of the frame obviously blurred. Guessing that was done optically to conceal its real identity, but not sure if this was the Hindenberg or perhaps a military craft they were trying to disguise as a commercial ship. Considering that it crashes in the ocean in a storm (via model shots), perhaps the owners of the real dirigible complained.

I seem to recall seeing the letters N-A-V-Y through the optical blur at some point.

I am watching ACE DRUMMOND, and it is far superior to TAILSPIN TOMMY IN THE GREAT AIR MYSTERY. Some of the people who wrote the script earlier wrote for Mascot, and you can seen the Mascot influence. It has a mystery villain named the Dragon, and like Mascot there are many red herrings. Suspects eavesdropping on conversations, radioing information the same time as the gang receives the same information from the Dragon, etc. Pa says, check it out.

I love the Ace Drummond serial. Saw some of it on WOR when I was little.

Whats needed .... Gravy ... is a loud noisy siren which sounds when one logs onto this website and has a PM which needs to be read ...
Perhaps a flashing light as well??
I've despaired at trying to contact members using the PM system ... some of my PMs have gone unread for several months .... I once sent a 8 successive PMs to a member over a 3 month period, trying to get a reply (all I wanted was a confirmed address so that I could send off a gratis serial)
Seems that checking top right on the screen when one visits the website is too much
Gravy! take note .... sirens & flashing lights required

Starks don't do any singing if they know what's good for them. My Uncle Mush sang to the authorities and look what happened to him.

I am watching The Lost Planet. It is a mediocre and silly Katzman-era Columbia but not nearly as bad as Captain Video. Was there a requirement that all Katzman-era Columbia serial of the '50s use Gene Roth? He seems to be in every one I have seen so far.

The distinguishing feature of this serial is that it features the original Dr. Grood character as the villain. This Grood seems to be remarkably similar to his Internet alter ego in terms of personality.
