Just finished THE GREEN ARCHER last week. Really hard to find another serial as enjoyable as that one. I purchased the 2 GREEN HORNET serials from Restored Serials. I fell asleep twice in Chapter 1 of the 1st Green Hornet serial and slept completely through Chapter 2. Decided to temporarily retire both serials. I'll watch 'em in a couple of months or so. Needing a change of pace, I decided on watching THE OREGON TRAIL with Johnny Mack Brown. It's not much different from FLAMING FRONTIERS or FIGHTING WITH KIT CARSON and has another great supporting cast that includes the terrific weasel Charles Stevens as "Breed". It's a good Western and I love Westerns. Oh yes- and Roy Barcroft plays General George Armstrong Custer. |

I still have two chapters to watch of Jungle Queen, so, no. I'm not watching any good serials. I'm starting The Spider's Web next, and I have high hopes for that one. |

Just finished Vigilante and Sea Hound. Wow, Ralph Byrd actually sang in the first chapter of Vigilante; no dubbing! Sea Hound was quite enjoyable also even though it was a typical Columbia serial. And I'm finally watching the restored LRRA. First two chapters are quite decent. Interesting to see Robert Livingston and Duncan Renaldo. For a moment, I thought I was watching a three mesquiteers western although Raymond Hatton wasn't in this one. By the way, that very popular three mesquiteers music theme was only used in the Livingston-Renaldo-Hatton movies. I don't think it was used in any of the Livingston-Corrigan-Terhune ones. |

You're right, it wasn't used for any L-C-T Mesquiteers pictures. It was, however, used for the 1940-41 Mesquiteers series starring Livingston, Bob Steele, and Rufe Davis. |

This weekend, I finished G-Men vs. the Black Dragon, so I have only one serial running right now: I've still got four chapters to go of Mystery of the Riverboat. I have picked up a bunch of serials lately, namely The Oregon Trail, Flaming Frontiers, and Raiders of Ghost City, plus the review copies I got of AC Comics' titles Dick Tracy's G-Men and The Fighting Devil Dogs and VCI's Scouts to the Rescue and The Royal Mounted Rides Again are here, and I've only watched a few chapters of each so far, so maybe I'll "officially" add those to the weekly rotation. Plus, I have the last batch of serials I ordered from our pal Rodney, which I've never even looked at... Some of these will probably be unveiled at the first-ever In The Balcony 24-hour movie festival, details of which are on the Laughing Gravy Dog Blog at http://inthebalcony.com/Gravy |

I have three serials in rotation at the moment: Daredevils of the Red Circle (a repeat for me, and a favorite), The Secret Code, and Perils of Nyoka. Nyoka is lively and fun, with a great lineup including Kay Aldridge, Clayton Moore, Billy Benedict, Charles Middleton, and Lorna Gray. And of course David Sharpe doubling for virtually everybody. Wish I could see a picture of him alongside Kay while he's wearing her outfit. Well, I mean, HIS version of her outfit; she'd have to be wearing her own outfit, of course...or something. Hmm. Well, never mind. Dressed as the beautiful Kay, shaved legs and all, he dives over boulders with the supreme confidence of someone diving into a swimming pool. And from what I can tell, without an Adventures of Superman-type springboard. How did he do that? |

I just finished up Tim Tyler's Luck, which was good ol' serial fun; and am almost finished Les Vampires, which is outstanding. Next up is the Serial Squadron's new release of The Lone Ranger Rides Again. |

Just finished watching Chapter #9 of the S Squads Lone Ranger Rides Again. A most enjoyable "restoration" Next up is the 1st Lone Ranger serial. It's included on a set of DVDS called The Lone Ranger The Original series Vol #1. There have been several comments that this is the "best" version of the searial available. I don't expect a lot but for $10!...Who can complain. Most of the "reviews" have been quite positive. The DVDs also contains a number of the Lone Ranger TV episodes |

Ming, I think the "Original Series" DVD you refer to is a Rhino compilation of Lone Ranger TV shows. The 15-chapter serial is on disc 2 of the Mill Creek release The Lone Ranger: The Legend Begins. See the previous thread. |

Finished Serial Squadron's THE LONE RANGER RIDES AGAIN. Still feeling all tingly from that trippy restoration. Interesting experience. It was an OK western serial. I was a bit disappointed -this was a Lone Ranger serial, after all. Why did Bob Livingston have to keep butting in? One final note regarding the S.S. LONE RANGER RIDES AGAIN: I actually enjoyed the bonus forum discussion featuring Squadron regulars -of which I yam not- voicing opinions and occasional anecdotal asides about the serial. Reminded me of various film festival bull sessions I observed & engaged in back in my younger, singler, days. Currently watching 2 recent purchases from Restored Serials: THE ADVENTURES OF REX AND RINTY and THE GREEN HORNET. Started THE GREEN HORNET in the middle of TLRRA but was bored with all the Wade Boetler - Gordon Jones nonsense. I usually like Wade Boteler. Maybe it's just Gordon Jones who's making me cranky. Sure like Keye Luke, though and it's always a kick whenever Cy Kendall sticks around for more than a couple of chapters. And yes, I am enjoying THE ADVENTURES OF REX AND RINTY a great deal. It's my first dog and pony show. |

I lied, so sue me (I can afford it). With all the talk of Millcreek's release of the first Lone Ranger serial, I decided to hold of on LRRA, until I can see the first serial...well, first. So an order is in for THE LONE RANGER: THE LEGEND BEGINS, at $8 and with pretty good reviews, possibly the serial deal of the year(?). In the meantime, keeping with the Lone Ranger theme, sort of, I have popped in Jesse James Rides Again, starring Clayton Moore. Four chapters in and havin' fun. |

I kind of thought the opposite With almost everyone claiming the the first serial is way better than the second; I though that I ought to watch the LRRA first to avoid any feeling of anti-climax. I am watching LRAA now and enjoying it. The first serial is on order and will probably be next in line. |
