Here's a Burns quote for the occasion (Robert not George):

"Oh! What a tangled web we weave
"When first we practice to deceive..."
Life is just a bowl of cherries, it's too mysterious, don't take it serious...

Omigawd, Grood (& his serial) are now dominating two separate threads.

Well, if no publicity is bad publicity, this boy's doin' all right! Funny thing is that I have absolutely NO interest in viewing DDOTW. Even as a kid, I couldn't stand Alan Lane.... & Kay Aldrich just doesn't do it fer me. Also, there's the fact that when I was a tad frequenting the Saturday matinees, I always felt cheated if the serial was a western!!!

2 each his own. Personally Aldrich does a lot for me, and I wish she could do more, but you know...old age...

Oh, it's probably that Kay was just such a giant step down, for me, from Frances Gifford (of course, that costume of hers didn't help matters)!!

For the record, Kay hated that costume and felt it did nothing to show off her figure: she thought the blouse too baggy and the shorts too long. But that didn't stop her from having an exact duplicate made in the '70s when she began making personal appearances in the outfit -- which, by the way, was the same size as the 1942 original.

Republic may have excelled at action, BUT there were two areas where they were abysmal: humor & sex!!

You're skimmin' the cream off of the top o' the barrel with that one.
It's like Rodney King used to say, "Can't we all get a bong."

Oh I don't know about that, Perils had some good jokes, my favorite was the "They're equestrians" "Yeah and they have horses too" exchange between Pembroke and Benedict. And as for sex, have you looked at Gray in that outfit? The only thing sexier was Carole Forman in The Black Widow.

No, no, no! Republic's sexiest serial female was Phyllis Coates in "Panther Girl of the Kongo." Talk about perfect legs --- I'd fight a giant crayfish, or Myron Healey, for her!!

If you're going to be going with long legs in a skimpy jungle skirt than my choice is Linda Stirling in The Tiger Woman, now that's a jungle goddess worth fighting for.
