Finished The Vanishing Shadow; thanks to Balconeer Barcroft for hooking me up with it. Replaced in the rotation with the Squadron's notorious release of The Vanishing Legion, from which this line comes: Man warning Frankie Darro not to try and mount his horse: "Don't ever try 'n' ride 'im, 'cause if you do, he'll throw you so high you'll starve to death before you light!" |

Yesterday was chapter 11 of The Lost City. Butterfield has swapped sides, apologizing several times for being such a bad guy. Dr. Manyus, Natcha and a little later Bruce, have been taken hostage and are on their way to Zolok. Queen Rama changes outfits from the skimpy 2 piece to the nice leopard outfit (here kitty kitty). I looked this serial up on IMDb the other day and WTF???? Geo F. Hayes is Gabby Hayes. Ya learn something new everyday. |

Watching Blackhawk for an upcoming chat. Below-average Katzman-produced Columbia serial at best. Kirk Alyn looks great as Blackhawk and the fight scenes are well done (thanks ot director Spencer Bennett, stuntmen like Dave Sharpe, etc), but the storyline is a nothing-happening progression of chapters. The villains are weak and even the gorgeous Carol Forman as Laska is given little to do. Kind of like an intermediary hench-wench. Every chapter the narrator says "the Blackhawks, armed only with their strong fists and alert minds." The Blackhawks are for the most part a bunch of boneheads. The only thing that saves them is that the villains are even dumber. |

B.T. I don't mean to be disrespectful to our beloved serials but that could be said of almost all serials. Kan |

I have to agree with BT. I thought the Blackhawks were dumber than your average serial hero too!

Does anyone know which threads in THE NEXT CHAPTER topic contain comments regarding VCI's JUNGLE QUEEN with Ruth Roman and Cy Kendall? I'm exahusted from looking for 'em... I'm thinking of ordering that along with PHANTOM CREEPS. |

That's not a serial that gets much attention. Be warned. |

Thanks for the warning. Mebbe I'll just double check their list for another item I don't own along with PHANTOM CREEPS. I'm a bit leery of the Tom Tyler serial and I've just ordered JUNIOR G-MEN OF THE AIR. (Arrived three days after placing the order!) Shoulda held off on my Dead End Kids order. Doesn't VCI have a Rin-Tin-Tin serial? How's quality? By the way - the site's search engine turned up 3 conversations between L.G. and a couple of other regulars in a "coming attractions" topic but I never could find the kind of in-depth reviews I've come to expect from RiddleRider, Laughin' Gravy and the rest of you serial & b-movie fanatics. |

"I'd be the last person to interfere with an owl's love life." -- from chapter 3 of The Mysterious Pilot. Is Cap'n Hawks s'posed to be marginally retarded in this film? He reminds me a lot of Gomer Pyle. |

Yesterday was the last chapter of Flash Gordon and everything is nicely wrapped up. Next Sunday is chapter one of Flash Gordon's Trip To Mars .... good thing Ming won't be around, eh? Also yesterday was chapter 11 of Undersea Kingdom. Atlantis is in ruins, Sherod is dead...will Crash and the gang get to best Unga Khan and return home? I'll take a guess and say yes....I'm gonna miss this chapterplay on Sunday's. |

From the 9th episode of G-Men Never Forget (actually from the first chapter; this was an economy episode): "Doc, you're an artist!" "That's what the judge said when he sent me up the river." |

Yesterday was chapter 11 of Ace Drummond. Just when I think I know who The Dragon is, I get a taste of red herring........scrumdillyiscious. Chapter 8 of Zorro's Fighting Legion. Don Diego's alias comes face-to-face with the Golden Don, but damn, another cliffhanger gets in the way. |

Looking at the credits on Young Eagles- It is from Ashton Dearholt's production company. Dearholt also produced New Adventures of Tarzan which used location shooting in Guatemala. Is it possible these kids are in a real Central American jungle? If I remember correctly, the Tarzan serial was a production nightmare that caused a falling out between Dearholt and Edgar Rice Burroughs. In addition, Dearholt left his wife for the leading lady in the Tarzan serial and the wife took up with Burroughs. |
