So, they explain to the sheriff in episode four of The Vanishing Legion that the gunman got his orders from "The Voice" by way of a "pocket radio that he carried in his pocket."

Sheriff, pointing to a Philco the size of a Model T: "Is this it?"

Today's classic dialog comes from my Friday morning serial replacement show, Ultraman...

Ito of the Science Patrol is interviewing a person of interest following a monster attack, and asks her if "anything unusual happened" while she was on the island. "Well, we became lost," she replies, "and..."

Ito: "Lost? There's nothing unusual about that. I become lost frequently."

How are you watching these???? Subtitles or dubbeb english?

I just got the first 6 episodes from Netflix and I saw the first one. I haven't seen this show in 40 years....what a riot. This disc also has a Beastiary.

The final chapter of The Green Archer was a gigantic dud, and dampened my opinion of the serial big time. The police chief was with him all along, and was just pretending to be dumb? Michael was the Archer? I thought that he might be about 10 minutes into the first chapter, and then thought "No way they'll do something that obvious". Well they did. The serial was a lot of fun along the way, but the wrap-up sucked.

I usually watch Ultraman dubbed. From time to time, though, I watch it subtitled just for a lark.

One henchman to another in episode 11 of The Scarlet Henchman: "Blunderbusses have been out of style a long time, Pecos... Only you didn't know it before!"

I haven't posted here in awhile, but I'm watchin' 10 serials a week, 2 every day except Fridays. 2 of them wrap up this week, Secret Code and Zorro's Fighting Legion, 2 good ones if I may say so myself. I'm 3 chapters into Gangbusters, Dr Satan, Captain Marvel, Flash's Trip To Mars and Adv Of Batman And Robin. Just 2 chapters into Phantom Empire, The Shadow and The Spider's Web. I just counted the screen, and yep, that's 10. I'm glad the memory is workin' okey today.

Anyone who paid attention to my post should've realized that 6 times 2 does not equal 10, only in the Zippy's Math School. Add King Of The Rocketmen and Secret Agent X-9 (The Sea Hunt version ;) )........yeah, there ya go.....12.

The other night I dropped in on NJ's semi-annual Chiller Theatre Expo, where one of the dealers had some of the recent VCI releases I hadn't gotten around to buying. So I picked up PHANTOM EMPIRE, LOST CITY OF THE JUNGLE, and PHANTOM CREEPS. Since I've revisited the two PHANTOM titles in recent years, I decided to start with LOST CITY, which I haven't seen since the early days of VHS (and in a dupey pirated version, at that).

I remember being unimpressed with LOST CITY OF THE JUNGLE the first time around, but after looking at Chapters One and Two again, I'm amazed it turned out as well as it did. To begin with, it was put together at a studio that had already decided to terminate serial production and thus had no incentive to make a good chapter play; by that point it was just a matter of fulfilling Universal's commitments to the exhibitors who'd pre-booked the 1945-46 output. And then the producers were hit with Lionel Atwill's death during production, forcing a considerable revamp of the screenplay and a salvaging of the footage already taken. Frankly, I'm amazed it makes any sense.

Maybe the thing will go completely downhill in later episodes, but so far I'm enjoying it.

I've always liked this much maligned serial. :ph43r:

When I was a kid I loved it. Really ought to watch it again.

I'm 3 chapters into the Adventures of Frank Merriwell. If you see the trailer, you'd think this was the greatest serial ever made. So far I'm enjoying it, but it seems more like a really long B-movie cut into chapters than a true serial so far. One plus - arguably House Peters Jr.'s greatest role.

I remember LG posting a chapter-by-chapter synopsis of this a few years ago on another website and liking the commentary, which was a lot more entertaining than watching the serial.

"Say boys, leave me out of this, I'm neutral."

I thought Lost City of the Jungle was a colossal snoozer, but what do *I* know?

I finished G-Men Never Forget. They're like elephants in that regard, apparently. I didn't care for it much, but the final episode was quite good -- with a fire! I didn't like it because it seemed that of the 12 cliffhangers (it's a 13-chapter serial), at least 11 of them involved a car going over a cliff, followed by somebody leaping from the car at the beginning of the next chapter.

Because travel season is coming up for me, I'll most likely not replace it in the rotation 'til I get back. I'm also about to finish Blackhawk and Young Eagles, the latter of which -- I know, I know -- I will update online. I will be quite satisfied to finish The Scarlet Horseman and his tiny tooter, too.

Tonight, I managed to squeeze in episodes of Woman in Grey (good chapter; a big fire, and none of this "Kirk Alyn or Clayton Moore standing amidst a little smoke watching stock footage" fires, nosireebob: we're talkin' conflagration, with several fire trucks on the scene and cast members or their stunt doubles leaping from burning windows onto those trampoline-things firemen carry in movies) and The Vanishing Legion (okay chapter, but I'd rather see Karloff than hear him; Frankie Darro continues to be the best thing in this serial).

Monday and Tuesday I went triple dippin'. That is, I watched 3 serials a day since I was off of work. Monday I finished The Secret Code, so I went ahead and started Monster and The Ape. Hey, MATA had a lot of action, I'll see in the long run. Tuesday I finished Zorro's Fighting Legion and went ahead and started Spy Smasher. SS looked good too, with lots o' action.
